Had a lovely dinner at Zinc while in town. We sat outside in the lovely garden area with our two dogs, a perfect place for people watching. Service was impeccable and always on point. Hubby and I shared potatoes bravas, the salmon plate, and the bistro chicken. Everything was wonderful. Our shared bottle of wine was kept cold and a perfect complement. Zinc is kind of an interesting place. It is minimally staffed as it is not usually crazy busy, which is fine, and they serve a French menu, which is hard to find in Merida. If you like French food its actually a good spot to try but I am not personally a big fan of that cuisine. The odd thing tho is their hours. It's always a bit of an enigma to me when we walk by when they choose to be open. It's probably related to the minimal staffing, but if you want to go you may want to call aheaf to be sure they are open. read more

I had a shrimp salad and I ordered a goat cheese croquette. I could not be disappointed as the food and the service was so good. I was looking for something light and small and while my dish wasn't small it was just what I need. This will be in my repeat list as I keep exploring Merida. Bravo Zinc team! read more

The place is cute, with plenty of outdoor seating. I love a restaurant where the owners/ managers are present that this was indeed a plus. We ordered cocktails, and while there were a few tables dining, they seemed to take a while to the point where our friend started to look back at the bar when our drinks finally arrived. My husband enjoyed his Margarita ($80). However, my Mojito ($75) - the choice of one of our friends - was just okay and very strong or flavorful. Our friends graciously ordered the Tabla Zinc to share - a platter with Gravlax, Argentine Chorizo, Goat Cheese Dip, Smoked Provolone Cheese, and a Chicken and Mushroom Terrine that was a house specialty and family recipe. A majority of it was good. However, I found the terrine to be coarse and crumbly. Almost as though it had been over poached. Three of us ordered the Pollo Frito Gourmet ($175). The fried chicken was touted in multiple reviews as 'move over Colonel Sanders' and 'Magnifique.' They list it as 'comfort food with a touch of elegance." When we ordered, the server informed us they only had breasts (a $15 surcharge) which would have been our preference anyway. It is served with Cole Slaw and Mac and Cheese. Unfortunately, the Cole Slaw was the star of the dish. The thin chicken cutlets were nicely breaded and crisp. Still, they lacked any seasoning, and the flavor of the oil from frying overpowered it. The Mac and Cheese had ZERO taste. The dish was really underwhelming. When we requested our checks at the end of our meal, the server informed us that they could not accept credit cards, only cash. When I commented that it would have been nice to have been told that when we ordered, his response was 'it's only stopped working within the hour'- but we hadn't been there much more than an hour. Overall it was just okay. While it's a nice change to find places that aren't serving Mexican or Yucatecan food to mix things up - Zinc just didn't WOW us enough to go back. Two notes at the risk of stating the obvious - the $ in Mexico denotes Pesos. So, don't be alarmed if you've been to more touristy areas in Mexico where prices are in US dollars. We ate here on a beautiful Tuesday evening of Christmas week. The Paseo was loaded with people this evening and the restaurant full. We got a table inside the restaurant. We started with a beer and a glass of wine off their extensive drink menu. I ordered the potatoes with onions and chorizo sausage. My wife ordered the crepes Normandy. My dish was very good with a lot of sausage. It came with two dipping sauces. My wife really enjoyed her crepes. It was covered with a creamy sauce with chicken and vegetables. We met the owner who was very friendly and his wife is the chef. Service was great and really enjoyed our dining experience. read more

What a fabulous addition to Paseo de Montejo in Merida! European comfort food at it's best. I had the fried chicken with coleslaw and mac and cheese, and of course a few cervezas. Air conditioned, friendly staff, and great food. This will absolutely become a regular place for us! read more
