Peaceful water and mountains. I cannot believe how still the water is. Slopes with houses dotted here and there, and birch trees... Standing in awe... Rooms at Brakanes are charming, it is quiet here. Staff is friendly and accommodating. Small gift shop on a first floor offers all your regular souvenirs. Some cute clothing, too! Their restaurant is nothing but outstanding. Every course is a masterpiece. I can honestly say, venison here is the best you would find anywhere, it just melt-in-your-mouth perfection. What's around: There are many hike trails and runs in Ulvik, the ones you will remember forever. Run around the fjord in early morning hours is particularly peaceful. If you visiting in Spring, there are cherry trees in bloom! Small cafes along the water are delightful for quick bite of to sit and relax.

Water pitchers refilled often, used cutlery swapped, and used plates bussed quickly. No complaints. Rooms: Cosy and clean. Majestic views of Hardanger fjord from private balcony. Bathroom had good water temperature/pressure. Wake-up call provided as promised. Bottom Line: Picturesque views alone warrant 5 stars. We tried their tapas plate. I have to admit that my expectations were low, but I was pleasantly surprised. The aioli was quite tasty and sweet and sour and ranch sauces were fine. The onion rings, chicken wings, and fried shrimp were on par with the best I have had, and the other fried foods were decent as well. The grapes were particularly good, and the red ones had a flavor that I had never encountered before. Overall, I had a great experience at Vossevangen Grill & Steakhouse and would recommend their tapas plate.

Also we got the special salmon fillet plate. I like how in Norway their specials are actually specials where it's fresh and cheaper than the regular menu items. In US, I feel like the specials is always a way to push expensive items to the diners. Don't forget to end the meal with the Norwegian Oreo cake! It isn't made in the house but in the country. :-) Definitely try out their local beers and ask for recommendation. The one we got was a medium and tasted a bit like a brown or red ale with a bit of sweetness. My frozen strawberry margarita was tasty too! Price is not too bad. 670 kr for two people including drinks and dessert!

Wifi is not reliable, but this is a remote area, and be aware of that. Since it is usually not very warm, there is no air conditioning. In the summer for a few weeks, they also have pesky non-biting flies, so you cannot open your windows too wide. Staff was very cheerful, and helpful. Location is right next door to the train station, so you should not have any problems walking with your luggage to the hotel. Be aware there are a few steps to get into the lobby, and your room may be down a flight of stairs. I do not believe they have an elevator. Overall, a little rustic, but a stunning setting, and a wonderful place!

It was a bit difficult to order with the language barrier and they didn't have an English menu. Fortunately, they have pictures of their dishes. I ordered a chicken kebab rice plate and was super disappointed to see them pop my rice in the microwave and heat that up along with the tomato sauce over it. The chicken though was actually pretty good, moist and just cooked through. They also included pita flat bread for our table, which they pulled out piping hot from a large oven and that was the best part of the meal.
