(Ooops) BUT things happen for a reason and that led us to Magic on 70, and honestly it's just that. We came two days in a row and spent 3 hours there EACH TIME! The coffee is bomb for sure! The atmosphere is SO welcoming! Tom is an unending wealth of knowledge! The first day he did our life path readings and O M G! He could not have been more spot on for my wife and I. If you're into crystals, cbd, incense, tarot cards and other eclectic items, you have got to stop by and check it out! We were unable to meet with Lynn due to our schedule but after doing some research and listening to people coming in and talking about her, she's amazingly talented with the gift she's been given and we will be setting up a remote reading with her! *TOM if you're reading this THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU for making our trip something to remember! Great coffee, and a neat shop filled with spiritual books, Tarot cards, and stones/gems/minerals. Being from LA (that's Los Angeles...not Lower Alabama), I found the vibe here refreshing. Next time I come through the area, I'll definitely drop in again.

Not only do they not provide a refund (as confirmed 2x with Elizabeth in customer service (not) , over the past 3 weeks) , you also have to pay for return shipping. Great showing of local authors on the shelves. The only problem is what I would readily identify as a personality flaw on my own part (and probably the rest of America as well): having been spoiled by Amazon and various discount retailers, the prospect of paying MSRP on books these days leaves me something like a deer in the headlights, in mentality if not in actual facial expression. (And unfortunately, no doubt thanks to the aforementioned discount sellers, the MSRP on books seems to be steadily climbing, too, making me all the more unlikely to pay full price. Behold the vicious circle.) Anyway, stop in, browse, and spend some cash if you're more locally virtuous than me. =)

Would a historic downtown area be complete without a quaint, locally flavored bookshop? No, it…read moreclearly would not! And thus downtown Hillsborough is indeed complete thanks to Purple Crow Books. It is a small, cozy bookshop that carries all your favorite big name authors, bestsellers, and featured book club works as well. But what clearly sets this establishment apart is the VAST selection of works by Hillsborough authors! Who knew so many published authors hail from this small North Carolina town? This guy surely did not, but I was very impressed and charmed by this fact. There is also a separate section devoted to North Carolina authors (hello, Nicholas Sparks!). You gotta love the strong local representation! Off the side of the main room, there are two smaller sections, one of which showcases numerous gently used books for 50% off and the second of which is devoted to children's books and games. Plus there are some crafty greeting cards for sale as well. All in all, definitely worth checking out as you stroll through Hillsborough. Plus Cup A Joe is conveniently located across the street so you can get your caffeine fix to accompany your literary adventure!
