The restaurant was not hard to locate and was very central and next to a bathroom. the seating was quick and simple. There was plenty of space for everyone to sit and we were greeted by all the servers and workers. When walking along the room there is the bar and sushi section. You can see those boats that normally have tons of different sushi and for sure I will be ordering next time I'm there. As we sat down they begin with drinks. I had water of course but wanted something with alcohol and they recommend for a sweet one the lychee. When the drink came out it had 2 lychees in the drink. The drink balanced out perfectly. Not too much liquor and not too much sweetness.i had a couple of those. I had sushi and they were interesting but delicious it was the tiger roll and the spider roll, The food was a set of selections. For appetizers it was different dumplings either and amazing sauce . Not spicy The side was either the zen salad or chicken wonton soup and I got the soup. It was amazing they provided it warm/hot. I had gotten the honey seasoned chicken and it had a sweet but salty sauce and it paired well. The family sides along was white rice , green beans, and broccoli. I had combined all of them together and everything was great! 10/10!!!! The dessert menu was great! I had ordered the matcha cheesecake and Dubai chocolate cake to go and they were amazing. the presentation in the Togo box was nice and I wonder how it would've been if i ate it there. I visited Zen for dinner while at a conference at the Championsgate Omni. I tried the Rice Noodle Duck Bowl. The menu description of the dish was misleading. I was expecting a dry noodle dish mixed or topped with the listed ingredients. However, this was a ramen-like dish were all the ingredients were swimming in a broth. Ironically, the broth was the best part of the dish with a rich beefy flavor. The noodles were nice and savory and the mushrooms tender. Unfortunately, the eggs were overcooked and had no yolkiness to them and the duck was on the chewy side. Overall, Zen is a convenient stop while at the Omni but the food could use some improvement. read more

This will be quick.... this place is overpriced and mediocre at best. The service is lacking. I had to ask several times for refills that kept being forgotten. I wasn't told refills were not free on sodas. At almost $6 a soda, give me a bigger glass and not a 5oz. wine glass of mostly ice! Sushi is comparable to grocery store bought sushi. Panda express taste so much better and I question if some of the food was brought in by Panda Express. Dessert is pretty, but don't be deceived. Zen please improve the quality of your food or lower your prices to the level of mediocrity it is and train your employees to be more informative and attentive. Maybe the servers don't work as much as they should for tips because 20 percent gratuity is already included on your check. Another strike against this place.... read more

Personally, I found the food to be both overpriced and lacking in flavor, with the exception of the bock choy which was quite tasty. Unfortunately, the salmon nigiri was particularly disappointing and did not meet expectations, especially considering its higher price. Additionally, it is worth noting that if you plan to visit Zen, it is advisable to simply walk over rather than relying on the RSVP app for accurate information. During my visit, I was the only customer dining at 9pm, and the restaurant unexpectedly closed early while I was still there. Interestingly, my coworker and his wife had made reservations for 9:15pm through the app, but when they arrived at 7:30pm, they were allowed to dine earlier as there were no other patrons present. They also agree'd it could have been so much better and would not try it again. Given my experience, I would recommend exploring other dining options within the hotel compound if you have the opportunity to do so. For the restaurant, I would recommended reviewing the offerings you have and the quality of those items. (table for 1) i waited maybe 15 minutes before i was greeted by a server which was frustrating after rushing down early. ordered a glass of wine and then had the ginger salad. The ginger salad was good, very different than the traditional due to the type of fresh greens they use rather than iceberg and the pickled onions which added a nice touch. Then I ordered a sushi roll. The overall timing of the order and arrival for food left room for improvement as again I waited patiently. The roll was pretty good. I closed out my check at 9:45 and was ready for bed. Would not revisit as there are so many other options that provide more attentive service but it was convenient to have this option at the resort. read more

We were staying at the Omni, and we were having such a nice time that we decided to cancel our off-site dinner reservation and instead eat on campus. I saw that there were plenty of reservations available later at night, so we just showed up at 9:40PM (per the sign, they are open until 10PM but only seat until 9:45). The restaurant is dark but clean-ish feeling, although there were a lot of un-bussed empty tables as we walked in. We started with the dumplings and the edamame. My husband had the miso soup and ginger salad. My kids had kid meals (nice that they at least had tempura shrimp and tempura chicken, teriyaki chicken and sweet and sour chicken instead of the usual sliders and mac and cheese). I had the pork belly, and I thought it was pretty good, although it could have been seared more. I know we were seated late, but as this is a hotel restaurant, I thought they would be more chill than a non-hotel restaurant. Nope. After a long day at Universal Studios, we went back to the hotel to enjoy a meal. The food was seasoned well but pretty average. I did like the sea bass quite a bit, so I had to add a star for that. The service was great. Our server was very personable and nice to talk with. It was quiet while we were there but would probably be average noise level at dinner rush time. I wish I would've saved my $50 + tip for 2 rolls and went to Trevi's for dinner instead. I've had better Shrimp tempura rolls at Publix and that says a lot! I have sushi/sushami from some very nice high-end restaurants with great chefs pretty regularly so I have a knack for quality food. Something is off about their rolls and I can't quite comprehend what is missing. The only reason I give 2 stars is because the staff were nice, they gave me ample napkins and such for my to-go order. Our expectations were probably artificially high due to other reviews, but we were neither disappointed nor blown away. Our main criticism would be the pacing of service. I'm staying at the Omni for a few days and felt like some rice dish. Perfect place to be I thought. Zen. The hostesses are very polite and friendly. Great knowledge of the menu and know how to take a to go order. Originally my base price was 22$ for a fried rice dish. I added chicken and after tax and tip (20% cause the hostess girls were top service) I ended up paying 38$ This is certainly the most expensive fried rice I've had. It better taste and look like gold for this price. Aaaand it didn't. Nice portion with fresh chicken bits. But the flavor was far from extraordinary or amazing. A bit dry as well, to my taste. Not impressed for this price. Yes, it's a hotel and we all know by now they like to over-charge for everything... But with that thought in mind we customers also then assume you will over-achieve to deliver an accordingly expensive tasty and delicious dish. Just a thought. We didn't stay at the resort but we chose to eat at Zen based on reviews. It was our honeymoon & Ching took care of us. She was fast & so courteous. At the end of the visit she surprised us with chocolate cake that wasn't even on the menu & really made our visit memorable. The food was amazing with great portions. We got the make your own Wok and weren't disappointed. My wife and I had a great time at Zen. She was dying for some Sushi and I saw that a house specialty of theirs was General's Chicken. When we arrived we were given a very welcoming greeting from the hostess and were then handed over to our server, Veronica. Veronica was by far the best server we've ever had, and both my wife and I have worked in the service industry. She understood the business she was in and clearly showed us that she cared. She was attentive with our needs and interested in us as customers. After a brief chat at the beginning, she offered us a complimentary starter (yellowtail) which was phenomenal! We both ordered a cocktail from the full service bar next door. I unfortunately did not like mine, so Veronica took it off our final bill. She took the time to talk to us, find out more about us and went the extra mile in insuring we had a great stay at the Omni; by sending a bottle of Cab to our room after dinner. We were blown away by her kindness!!! Veronica literally made our stay! She is by far the best asset Zen or Omni has in terms of customer service. I was so impressed with her willingness to go the extra mile for her customers and the kindness she showed my wife and I. There were easily 3,000 people staying at the omni that night,and Veronica made us feel special. To cap it all off she sent us a poolside snack basket the next morning! My friend agreed and we both talked with others in our group who dined there during our stay and it was the same thing. As a vegan, I'm especially nervous about being able to find tasty and filling options at resort restaurants. I'm staying at the Omni for a work trip and my options so far (ie the meals catered for our conference sessions by the hotel) have been comically bad. So after 10 hours of being trapped in a giant ballroom and eating nothing other than leaves stuffed into a pita and presented to me as lunch, I was pretty desperate. I called Zen to explore their pickup options and luckily Julianna answered the phone. Her customer service was excellent and she was spot-on in helping me pick out/customize the best dinner option. She suggested the General Tso's but made with tofu and veggies. I asked for it extra spicy, and they did not skimp on the peppers. The sauce was scrumptious and the veggies had a great crunch and freshness. I also ordered the veggie roll but have to admit it was lackluster at best - just your basic, and I mean basic, cucumber/avo roll. It was also unfortunately warm because it was sitting on top of the hot food box and the heat transferred. I admit it took a lot of effort to eat warm sushi even though I was ravenous. Overall, this is a pretty decent option if you're not able to venture off-property. High marks for the quality of the staff that work here though! read more

Zen is a beautiful upscale Asian restaurant in the Omni Champions Gate hotel. I have been to expensive, upscale Asian restaurants before such as Hakkasan (in Miami and London), enjoyed them, and thought they were worth the price. However, for me, Zen missed the mark in many ways and was not worth the steep price tag. We started with some appetizers. The Hunan Dumplings with Peanut Sauce were weak. The dumplings themselves were tasteless and watery. The water from the dumpling mixed with the peanut sauce on the plate, although the peanut sauce itself was tasty. Husband and 11 year old ordered Sweet Corn with Chicken Soup. Served very hot, it was quite tasty and hit the spot. I ordered a Tornado Roll (tuna, salmon, whitefish, wasabi tobiko). The fish in the roll was very fresh, although there was not a huge amount of it. Moreover, the roll cost $12 and there were only 5 small pieces in the roll. Really? For mains both Husband and I ordered the Garlic Grouper with Crispy Noodles. Husband loved it! I thought the grouper was dry. Also, there was not enough sauce on the dish. We had the choice of white or brown rice and we both chose brown rice. The rice that appeared seemed more like a fried rice than a brown rice but I could nor complain. The rice was delicious! Rice with some veggies, egg.....no grease & tons of flavor! In my opinion 11 year old picked the best dish, Kung Pao Shrimp & Scallops with Peanuts and Celery. The shrimp and scallops were cooked to perfection. The sauce was tasty and there was plenty of it. I actually used extra sauce from this dish for my grouper. Service was quite inconsistent. Our server appeared promptly and did a great job describing and suggesting menu items (although I think his grouper suggestion was a dud!) Then our server kept disappearing. He never came to check up on us after we got our food. We kept having to ask other employees to find him. Not cool. Bottom line though is there are not a huge amount of dining options in and around the Omni. For sheer convenience this is not a bad option if you want to stay on the premises, especially if you are exhausted like we were. After spending about twelve hours on the lacrosse fields behind the Omni, a meal at Zen might not have not been totally "zen" but it was relaxing enough and just steps from our room. If we visit this hotel in the future, I would not rule out Zen as an option. read more

I DREAM OF THIS PLACE. My boyfriend and I went on vacation and decided to try this place since we had hotel credit. I am so glad that we did. We loved it so much that we had it twice and even wanted it a 3rd time. The waitress was super sweet and they even were able to whip us up a dish after they closed. From the appetizers to the dessert, everything was amazing. Too bad there isn't one in California, otherwise we'd be there everyday. My wife and I were excited to try Zen; and, were very pleased to secure reservations, as the concierge showed them booked-up for the evening. This is very odd, as no more than 4 tables seemed to have been occupied, including our own. We were seated in a fairly private corner booth, which was very comfortable, except for an unfortunate light bulb choice directly above our heads. The bulb was too large, and extended below the bottom of the lantern; and, created an unending glare throughout our meal. My wife was happy to order the Steamed Chilean Sea Bass; and, I ordered the "Zen Experience." Billed as a "tasting menu" it is really more "all-you-can-eat" than the former. And, the food service was excruciatingly slow, with nearly 20 minutes elapsed between courses of 3-to-4 "tasting" plates. Once I complained, however, service did pick up. We had ordered a modestly priced small bottle of saki; but, were informed it was out. Instead of something comparable in size and price, we were offered two options and chose the "Black and Gold." It was a good buy for the size; but, at nearly double the size of the one we preferred, we got very tired of the taste. My wife's sea bass took more than 1/2 hour to come out; and, I was on my second round of "appetizers." The Zen Experience is front-loaded with fried, carbohydrate loaded dishes, but the Hot and Sour soup was delicious. This was not a "tasting" size; but, a full bowl. Most of the appetizers were good; but, unremarkable, including the Chilled Noodles, Sweet Potato Tempura, Crispy Chicken Spring Rolls, Sesame Shrimp Toast, Chinese Style Spare Ribs, Crispy Scallopsand, Salt & Pepper Calamari. However, the Hunan Dumplings with Peanut Sauce were EXCEPTIONAL; and, I ordered two more for "dessert." My taste of the entrees was limited by my sheer volume of appetizers, so I only had samples of the INCREDIBLE Szechuan beef; the excellent Stir Fried Lobster in Ginger Sauce and the rather lackluster Cashew Salmon. ON our way out, we noticed another couple; the husband was seated in the middle of two tables, with nearly every dish on the Zen Experience before him. His wife was seated at the end of the table, eating what looked like a rice dish. Maybe that's the best way to try the Zen; and, not get overloaded up-front. One of my pet peeves, which I'll never understand, is the lack of Wi-Fi in the restaurant.
