The arrival there by taxi was a real eye-opener as it turned down the dingy streets towards the hotel and dropped us at the end of a lane beside a dirty old mattress. So dragging suitcases and children down the lane we arrived at the hotel 'courtyard' and with a deep breath went inside to check in. We were put into room 2 right beside the reception desk which turned out to be quite noisy as every time someone went to the desk we had to listen to their conversations. On the first night i actually had to go out and ask the two staff members to keep it down as i could hear them laughing. The room was more like a hostel room than a hotel room with two metal bunkbeds and a single bed coupled with lumpy, bumpy mattresses. Every night we were bitten by mosquitoes even when we had a plug-in although i understand that is not the hotel's fault there were mosquitoes they could have at least sprayed the room. The staff however were pleasant enough and did try to help make our stay a pleasant one, and the coffee was lovely, the only nice part of the breakfast. I know we looked for cheap, but i would find it hard to recommend this place to anyone. We were strapped for cash after spending a week in Lake Garda and OMG the contrast between our accommodation there and this hotel was overwhelming. They do have free wi-fi though so i was able to almost imagine myself back in Lake Garda by gazing at the photographs?

The metal bunkbeds, the lack of AC, none of the niceties you get a real hotel and lack of outside space would lead to you believe that this is a Hostel....which the expection of the difference in price. The only up side to this hotel was the friendly staff, the fact the kids could run riot and nothing be said! However, if you must visit Milan (the worst city i have ever visited), i'd fork out a few shillings more and stay somewhere a little more up market.

I woke up both mornings with neck pain from limited support. The location itself was perfect for us (around 20 minute walk from city centre) and the price was right. Would stay again!

After checking out in the morning, I realized within approximately five minutes that I had left my sunglasses in the room (room 337), clearly visible on the central table at the foot of the bed, under the TV. Given that I was staying in a world renowned hotel chain in one of Italy's major cities, I was confident the item would still be there when I returned later that same day to pick up my luggage, so I didn't bother returning straight away. That was my mistake. I came back to the hotel at around 16:00 and informed the reception. I was asked to wait for nearly 30 minutes while they checked with housekeeping and the lost & found. I was then told that nothing had been found and was asked to follow up via email. I did so, and received a reply on Monday stating that internal checks had been conducted with housekeeping staff and supervisors, but that no sunglasses had been found or reported. What is most concerning is not the monetary value of the item, but the fact that it disappeared within a very short time window after checkout, despite being left in a clearly visible place. I returned the same day expecting a straightforward recovery process, which did not happen. I understand that mistakes can occur, but in this case the outcome raises questions about the handling of guests' belongings after checkout. I would have expected a more reassuring resolution or accountability. I hope the hotel reviews its internal procedures regarding lost property to prevent similar situations for future guests.

Yeeeeah, there's a reason why this place is listed as a one-star. Only about a half-step up from a…read morehostel, Hotel San Tomaso is located on the 4th floor (3rd level in European terms) about a 15 minute walk from the downtown/Duomo area of Milan. It appeared to me to be run by a family, with different members taking different shifts at the front desk. There were maybe about 15 rooms: a combination of private bathrooms and shared bathrooms. The common area was next-to-non-existent as you could barely squeeze two people in. They did have a breakfast option for 2.50 euro, but we decided to opt out so I can't speak about that. Our room had cracked paint, a cracked pseudo-glass shower door, clear tape covering a cut in the bathroom "wooden shelving" and an incredibly small TV (that didn't work 1 of the 2 nights). Basically, you get what you pay for and if you are only looking for something reasonably priced to simply sleep in - you'd be ok here. But don't expect any bells and whistles.

The rooms didn't have locks so anyone could have walked in and there weren't any lockers so our stuff was pretty much up for grabs. I don't know if they allow smoking or what but people definitely smoke inside the hostel. Overall I would say stay far away from this place.

She gave me general information about the buses, what to do in Milan, and even gave me pertinent information about taking a train to Venice. As an international traveler, I forgot one of the most important things - an adapter. I couldn't charge any of my devices, or use my hairdryer, and she let me borrow one of hers. She did more than what I expected - I'd probably be lost without her! A great perk of this hostel is the free breakfast provided from 8AM-11AM (pictured). It is also walking distance to Gerusalem train station, so commuting throughout Milan is a breeze. I visited during the perfect season. All windows were open and the light breeze swept the room to welcome in the new day. Amid all the great things I can say, I had few minor issues with this hostel, but it's not entirely a game changer. I was assigned the lower bunk, and the space between the 2 beds is very small. I couldn't sit up comfortably - the only position you could be in is horizontal. There are no elevators (not a big deal), so expect to go up a windy staircase up your room. At least you get a good exercise from it. Also, the wifi on the 3rd floor (I agree with other reviewer) is very spotty. Expect to get disconnected intermittently. All in all, the hostel is what you'd expect from any other hostel. There are lockers, one bathroom per room (in the 6 bed unit I was in), housekeeping service every day, helpful receptionist, and a common area on the 2nd floor. I couldn't ask for more.

However, the staff person was fine with it and didn't charge us any extra fees. The good: cheap beds that were around 30 euro, complimentary breakfast in the morning, great and welcoming host, subway is close, the hostel feel and environment had a lot of character and made me feel like this was a travelers' haven. The bad: the directions that were given off of hostelworld need to be updated from the Gerusalemme metro station. They were entirely wrong and lead you to the wrong direction. This becomes more of an issue when you don't have a data plan and can't locate wifi. Also, the wifi was super spotty and did not reach to the third floor, and there are no elevators. Everything is staircases which didn't bother us, but I can see this as a problem for those people traveling with more luggage. Overall, I would stay with them again. The good outweighed the bad for me.
