The signs were plentiful and well set up. I had a public transportation card from Vitoria, which I was able to use in the Bilbao metro and bus system.. All the Basque country networks are now linked so all cities accept each other's transportation cards. The map made it easy for me to find out which direction to take and where to get off. Easy, clean and frequent.

Easy to access Indautxu station with decent markings in the area though you have to be kind of…read moreclose. As you're in the city, the station might be around the next corner. This can make it a little challenging. A "Metro this way" sign would be awesome for tourists like me. The station is underground, beneath Urquijo Avenue. Brightly lit, clean, no smell of pee. There is a display that shows when the next train is coming. There are automated ticket vending machines on the ticketing concourse and turnstiles. It's another set of stairs, escalator or lift down to the platform level. The machines did have an "English" button so I was able to buy my ticket without difficulty. As there is more than one zone, you will need to hang on to your ticket to exit the system. Indautxu is in Zone A of Bilbao's metro between San Mames and Moyua stations. There are three different entrances to the Indautxu station: - Indautxu Square, Shopping Mall (Urquijo exit) - 33, Dr. Areilza street (Areilza exit) - 25, Dr. Areilza street (Areilza exit, elevator)

It's best to avoid going inside the building and wait it out outside until your bus arrives. After that, you'll be okay. They have some vending machines if you want a snack, but you'll be better off going across the street to grab some food if you're hungry. In all, take it all in and enjoy mingling with people from all over the place. I even saw a mariachi at one of the vending machines! It felt like home.

Best to buy your bus ticket online beforehand because you have to find the building which is where…read morethe tourist info office is to buy a ticket before boarding the bus because not all destinations are available electronically on site. The tourist info booth is two doors down from the actual place to buy the tickets. Make sure you have enough euro cash on you because not all bus companies accept credit card. They also stop selling tickets for the bus ten minutes before it leaves. There is a cafeteria nearby and a candy store in case you need to kill time. Not the cleanest place but not the dirtiest I have been in. Their bus ticketing system isn't efficient.

They will then threaten you with the police when you refuse to pay a no show fee due to their mistake. I wish someone had told me about this before I missed my flight home due to their problems with using a GPS.

The funicular was waiting for us and we got into the top car, so we could watch the opposite car coming down at us! Once at the top, we grabbed a beverage at the Café Txakoli and walked back to the hillside adjoining the funicular depot for gorgeous views of Bilbao. Will be back! Pro tip: Use the Barik card. It is inexpensive (€0.50 each way) compared to buying a ticket (€2.50 one way and €4.30 round trip).
