Zara does get you in because of their wonderful way with a mannequin and cloth. Big windows with colourful and brightly sophisticated gear - it all looks good and positively inviting. Even their website is a hoot. Trendy, sexy, sassy in fact, all your Sssssss could run wild.
And, like Marks and Sparks, I can say that I have bought a few good quality pieces here over the years, that didn't cost the earth or any other planet for that matter. But, and here we go......
While Zara with it's sophisticated edge, clever designs and colourful, bold prints spread all over the show gets you in through that front door, most of the time, again, in some respects, the imagery fails to live up to the real test - the touch test. Quality is being sacrificed for style and design. I am not sure where all of these fashions are being manufactured or perhaps 'outsourced' - they do have labels saying, made in Vietnam, China, Morocco - so it definitely 'aint Milan. But then if it was, for sure, the price would tell too, so, I guess we can't have it all ways. While the look they achieve can be French - suave and slinky - yes, even more Ssssss - the let down comes in the form of the quality of fabric used.
Again the leather goods - handbags, shoes etc - are the same. Or, in this case, not leather but synthetic something. Hard and crispy like yesterday's salad bar. Not good for the toes. I am crying out for Clarks right now.
A shop pleasant to browse in cause they have style in spades, but real quality, this doesn't quite cut the mustard! read more
