I'm afraid I can't comment on the fan club over the last 7-8 years, but between 1998-2001 I…read morepractically lived there! The atmos was always great - took a while to get going, often with small groups of people getting up and dancing self consciously to one individual track from their favourite band, then sitting down again (check me out - I love 'Faster' by Manic Street Preachers, and can sing along to all the words...) but when you got into the prime time of the evening the DJ's would bring out the big tunes for that individual club night and it would go off. The usual classics - 'Smells Like Teen Spirit', 'Jump Around', 'Intergalactic' would have seas of revellers launching themselves all over the place in a beer fuelled frenzy. The dark dingy decor gave the place the feel of an underground den - a crypt even - where the children of the night hid from the high street herds to hear the hallowed music of the past, present and near future at deafening volumes. But God have mercy on the DJ who played Stone Roses 'I am the Resurrection' and cut it off before the solo! A fantastic line up of club nights - especially Wednesday nights Up The Junction - a spot on 60's night, playing Motown, Northern Soul and British beat groups among others, to generally sparse but well tailored crowds of Leicester's Ace Faces. A quick peek at their website shows its still going strong. For fans of alternative music who feel that a night out should be about a collective experience of people coming together for the music they love and share, rather than a trip to the meat market to cop off with someone who is drunk enough not to care. People who prefer Supergrass to Superclubs, and go for The Jam rather than Cream. Disclaimer - as I said I haven't been since 2001. It may now be shite.

Paid £5 to get in, then up the stairs. Not classy place, floor wet from spilt drink. Diffrent room…read moreyou can go into with good music being played. Comfortable sofias to sit on. Was quite busy for friday since the rest of Leicester was dead.

I really wanted to like Chutney Ivy. It's a swanky looking place, with a nice looking menu…read more Unfortunately, the experience didn't live up to our expectations. We checked it out online first and saw that the set menu (described as a feast) looked pretty varied and great value. Unfortunately, we arrived and found the price was about £5 more (to be fair, they honoured the web price), but ordered anyway. There was nothing wrong with the food itself, although it wasn't anything better than any other curry place in Leicester, but it just took sooo long to arrive. I think we were waiting 1 3/4 hours for our mains and when we did get them it wasn't particularly 'feast like'. The feast is replenished as an when required, according to the menu, but the waiters looked pretty shocked when we asked for more. What of, they asked. Everything! was our reply. The waiting staff were pretty friendly, though, and the food itself was alright, so maybe 2 stars is harsh. But when you consider that the list price is around £22 just for the food in a city that has some of the best curry in the country, they'll have to try a lot harder to survive.
