I went here after a recommendation from a friend at work that they have some of the best Thai dishes in town. Granted, it couldn't be that hard since there are only two real Thai places here (Bangkok in Paradies) but I decided to give it a shot.
I stood outside looking at the menu for a few minutes though I already had my mind made up about what to eat. The real reason why I stood outside was due to the fact they had two doors and since my German was almost non-existent, I did not know which door to enter. After a few minutes of walking around, I decided to go to the side entrance in relative to the street, but either door is fine.
I sat down to see a staff of older women cooking and a younger waitress. The place was fairly busy but service was prompt and nice. Luckily for me, the waitress spoke English so she helped me out a bit. The restaurant is small, seats about 18 people max. I'm fairly sure they have outdoor seating once the weather warms up.
I went ahead and ordered a Gaeng Panang Gai and a large Sprite. Within a few minutes, this large dish consisting of steamed rice, steamed veggies, stir-fried chicken in a lovely coconut curry sauce came out. It was quite bigger than I had anticipated. I went ahead and started digging in and I have to admit, it was quite good. It was not overly spicy though I am sure I could have requested it to be, the veggies were soft and the chicken was tender.
A few days later I came back for a second time, ordering Pad Siu-ie Gai. I've had many different variations of Pad Siu-ie dishes before from the local Thai restaurants where I live, and this one seemed run of the mill. Don't get me wrong, it was good, but it's is nothing to brag about. Maybe it got dulled down a bit for German tastes but I really did not expect too many surprises with such a common and simple dish.
Overall, I like the place a lot. It is a really small and cozy spot with great people. The restaurant is a bit run down and narrow but some of the best Asian eateries are just like that. read more
