Second Harvest depends on volunteers to help with deliveries, sorting food, and running events. I volunteered at Second Harvest for the first time this week in both helping with deliveries and sorting food in the warehouse. Working on the truck was great because you can see firsthand the people who are benefiting from the service. It feels good to do something tangible to help people in need. The warehouse is a much more solitary activity, but there is a lot of work to be done to portion donated food, so it was great to lend a hand. The annual Turkey Drive is coming on Dec 6-7 and Dec 13-14, 2008. You can volunteer or help by buying a frozen turkey at participating Loblaws locations where volunteers will collect and deliver them to people in need.
