    Julie Kim

Julie Kim did a headline show at Yul Yuks. We went to the Richmond street location in Toronto. The venue itself is small intimate. When I said intimate the seats are literally crammed together. The space was tight. There was no seating it was first come first serve. Which I later found out you can add a note on their site to request for seats in the front. I mainly came to see the headline Julie Kim. I was not impressed with the venue. A bit dirty and outdated. Food was not good at all I would go to a restaurant beforehand. I ordered popcorn and fries and the popcorn tasted like microwave popcorn for $7! Fries was soggy. All in all a great evening to see my fav comedian, 2 stars for that!

Such a great time at YukYuk's! We went for the amateur night not knowing what to expect and it turned out so much better than some professional shows we have been to! Wow! Loved it. Two hours of nonstop fun laughing away. Worth every penny of the 500 pennies as one of the comics put it. Our host, Brian, was super funny too. I'm sure the comics were nervous about following him up because he was really that good! The acoustics were great, our waitress was great. Truly a fun thing to do in Toronto. Can't wait to come back for another show!!

Took until after the first comedian to get our drink orders in, waiter walked past us at least 3 times without even looking in our direction. He finally took our order as we were mid-banter with the MC. I'm convinced he is not right in the head. Got the saddest Ceasar on earth (said it was topped with some sort of extravagant "bean" but I just see a wedge of lime). When the drinks arrived we ordered food and didn't receive it for over 30 minutes even though we both ordered fries. Also, we were the last to receive our food and we watched other tables get their additional sides before we even received our first order. My friend's chicken strips were reportedly unacceptably dry and he gave up on them. The entire time, no matter how much we waved the waiter never came back. What really stung was that the waiter went to other tables to check on them right after ignoring us. He never once came to check on how we were doing. I never was able to refresh my cocktail or make any requests until he came back with the bill. By this time the comedian on stage was having some sort of meltdown and I just wanted to get out of there even though I was extremely thirsty. I don't think I've ever been so uncomfortable eating dinner.

Birthday promo - free (regularly $11.50)

Here for the birthday promo, a free show on the week of your birthday. Tip: You have to register ahead of time online to enter for free! I've been here a handful of times and I've had better experiences. This Sunday bombed, there were 30 people or less - it was very quiet sometimes. I was bored, forcing myself to applaud. I think everyone in the audience was tired and ready for bed. I wouldn't come back on a Sunday, it was not the best show they've had... a good try though.

In late October, on a Sunday, I had lunch with a few friends at Rivoli Toronto, an iconic venue…read morenear the downtown core. I had a great time. I parked on Queen Street West. It's Green P parking. I recommend paying for parking through the Green P app if you need to add more time. When you walk in, there's a flight of stairs and a main floor: - The main floor has a restaurant, bars, and Back Room for concerts - The second floor has a full bar, stage, pool tables, and arcade games I entered the main floor. I was greeted by John, the owner. He was super nice and hospitable, leading me to where my friends were. We were a party of six. Main floor We feasted. We got a lot of food. We divided, shared, and conquered. We ended up boxing leftovers home. I ordered a Diet Coke. It was cold and perfect. I ended up getting another one later on. Balls menu The balls menu consists of appetizers that are sharable with friends. I can also see having a few for yourself to enjoy. It's good finger food eats if you want variety or something lighter, especially before a show. We enjoyed the following ballsy items: - Wookie balls - Beefy Danish balls (frikadeller) - Fish ball fusion - D'oh balls - Garlic mashed potato All the balls were scrumptious and filling. The Wookie balls are one of the Rivoli's signature items. They are rice balls with mirin, sesame oil, and herbs, coated in black and white sesame seeds. They were crunchy and yummy. The beefy Danish and garlic mashed potato balls are comfort in ball form. I dream of this combo still. I was fortunate to have been invited into the kitchen, to check out where these talented chefs make all their food creations. Every order is made fresh. I could tell how much these chefs love what they do. They cooked and plated everything so effortlessly and with such precision. It was impressive! I got to see them make these offerings for us: - Blackened burger - Korean chicken lettuce wraps They were delicious and full of flavour. You can get the lettuce wraps made with veggies if you're vegan. Noodles We got the vegetarian pesto linguini. I loved the roasted red pepper and garlic cloves, with pesto that was fresh and bright. You can also get this dish with chicken. Rivoli's classic pad thai has been a staple since Rivoli opened in 1982. Pan-seared chicken and shrimp are your proteins. Egg, scallions, peanuts, and bean sprouts, and the proteins are tossed with rice noodles in Rivoli's signature pad thai sauce. The sauce is ketchup-based, which may offend pad thai purists, but they are missing out on yumminess by knocking it. You can also get this dish made vegetarian with veggies and tofu. Flatbreads Flatbreads are part of the Sound Bites appetizers at Rivoli. We enjoyed the following flatbreads: - Spicy thai - Spicy thai sauce base, with baby shrimp, marinated chicken, green onion, bean sprouts, ribbons of egg, roasted peanuts, cilantro, and fresh lime zest - Korean BBQ - Korean BBQ sauce base, with marinated chicken, red pepper, red onion, carrot, cheese, cilantro, and green onion - Love from parma - drizzled extra virgin olive oil on the flatbread, with thyme, sea salt, cracked black pepper, prosciutto, sun-dried tomatoes, roasted garlic, shaved parmesan, arugula, and flat-leaf parsley - Blanco - drizzled extra virgin olive oil on the baked flatbread, with fresh thyme, cracked sea salt, gouda cheese, and bufala mozzarella All flatbreads were perfectly toasted and made to order. They were both chewy and crispy where they should be. Scrumptious! Back Room The Back Room is the main stage. Adele, Amy Winehouse, Gord Downie, The Kids in the Hall, Mike Myers are some folks who have performed here. It was cool to look at the stage and sit on it, to soak in everything. I'll need to return and check out a show or more. Second floor I took in The Empty Glasses play a live set at 3 pm on the second floor. The stage is by the bar. This band plays every other Sunday. It felt like being in Nashville, visiting a bar, knowing that there is good, live country music playing as you grab a drink and a bite to eat. The difference is that you save a bit by soaking up country vibes in downtown Toronto. It's a tight-knit community of talented country musicians that can play or sing anything on a Sunday afternoon. It was special to witness. I instantly became a fan, as attending live concerts and performances is my thing. There's also a pool hall with games on this floor. It was a throwback to my undergraduate years learning how to play pool with friends over drinks. There are a decent number of pool tables. I counted eleven. The purple one in the middle is the largest one out of the bunch. The oldest one is over a century old. It's like being in a pool hall museum, but you can touch the artifacts. You can also play video games. I saw Pac-Man and other great 80's arcade games. They made me happy. I had a great time. The food and drinks, and live music were excellent. (436)

My main was the totally mediocre burger, fries & an Amsterdam Blond Beer. Beer was delicious ($7.96). It was their "Blackened Burger" with blue cheese ($21.99). It was good but not great. Very small portion as I've noticed at many other restaurants. The service was good. Our Columbian Server was a very nice, polite young man. In the beginning the restaurant was well cared for & in the beginning it was quiet. We went to the in-house show after dinner. The show was a burlesque show consisting of a bunch of overweight women that were a way too old taking off their cloth! All hosted by a transvestite comedian! It was funny as hell, entertaining & super weird all in one! It was also the Neublanch Art festival on Queen W. Let me just say that, that street was weird central last night!! To me, this was a totally enjoyable evening & I'd recommend this restaurant & the subsequent show for sure! It happens once/month.

I couldn't tell you why I stopped going. It took Hamilton, the musical, to get me back into the swing of things. I have been a fan of this production for a while. I have listened to the album version many times. I have also seen the Disney+ version of the musical. Princess of Wales Theatre, named after Princess Diana, had a ticket sale through the Mirvish site. I secured a ticket on a Friday in mid-July. It was heavily discounted and I ended up sitting in the third row, almost dead centre. Parking has changed over the years in the theatre district. I managed to find parking in a small lot a block north of this theatre. I was pleased. I had no problem filing in to this theatre. There was no security check. You basically show your ticket on your phone and a staffer will direct you to the proper entrance. I was seated in the orchestra section. I had the nicest usher direct me. I also got a program from her. The two women ultimately seated next to me were kind to stand up and let me get past them in the row to get to my seat. The musical was excellent. The only concern was one of the cast members being replaced after the first intermission. I hope that he was okay, but his backup did a fantastic job. I used the washroom before and after the show. There was no wait before the show. There was a bit of a wait after, though. There were many stalls, but the volume of folks needing to use them was more the issue. The women's washroom was in impeccable shape. The sink area was fun. It was like a waterfall. It was pretty. It may seem a bit unusual to folks who want a more practical hot and cold set of faucets. I wouldn't know whether the men's had a similar waterfall sink. I got a souvenir after the show. I don't have many shot glasses, so I got a Hamilton-branded one. I paid with a credit card. The woman at the counter was helpful and friendly. She wrapped my little glass shot glass in paper and then placed it in a small plastic bag. I thanked her and happily left the theatre. When you step out of the theatre and look down at the sidewalk, you'll see Canada's Walk of Fame. It was cool seeing inductees, from Monty Hall, to Wayne Gretzky. It was great returning to this theatre again and taking in a musical. I hope to do it again soon, but not over a decade later. (328)

The first time I went was for the NYE party bringing in 2024 and the cover band played 2000's era music which was very well done and had the crowd singing along. Even the owner got on stage and was lead singer for many of the era's tunes using his phone for the lyrics. Hokey but awesome too! This kind of place reminds me of the days before the popularity of EDM, house music, and bars charging money to hear recorded music. With a live band there is more of a focal point to the evening and more randomness in the music, which makes it more interesting to dance to. Check this place out if you're in the mood on a weekend and tired of the typical pretentiousness of many of the bars in the area, and get back to basics where people are playing real instruments and have plenty of talent to share with the public.

At this point I ask the venue manager if in this situation i should call the cops to deal with it, and she said if that's what l'd like to do then do it. So I went outside and called, and they wouldn't let me back inside the venue because of this. So what I've learned is Adelaide Hall security is there for no reason and won't help when someone is assaulted. Police report made. This place has no business being open when they don't value public safety and actually side with aggressors. No reason not to pull footage. Karma has this place on her list, I guarantee it.
