A fun night out! The space is larger than I thought it would be, and well maintained. Washrooms were clean and humorous signs on the stalls. Tables are close together but that contributes to more of a family audience feel (and when the club isnt full its very spacious). The show is tons of fun-- there's something for everyone! We watched antidepressant Thursdays where 6 comedians were on the roster, all different types. Foodwise, ours came out quickly and was piping hot, which is excellent! A little pricey, but large portions, we definitely could have shared one order of nachos. Fries were super salty in some spots and needed a better toss. My main gripe is no tap water is offered-- very strange for downtown Toronto. They do mention this on the menu but still disheartening to have to pay for a drink when I've already purchased food and a ticket. read more

We went for an amateur night so you might have some comedians that are hit or miss, but at least Yukyuk's gives them a chance! Julie Kim did a headline show at Yul Yuks. We went to the Richmond street location in Toronto. The venue itself is small intimate. When I said intimate the seats are literally crammed together. The space was tight. There was no seating it was first come first serve. Which I later found out you can add a note on their site to request for seats in the front. I mainly came to see the headline Julie Kim. I was not impressed with the venue. A bit dirty and outdated. Food was not good at all I would go to a restaurant beforehand. I ordered popcorn and fries and the popcorn tasted like microwave popcorn for $7! Fries was soggy. All in all a great evening to see my fav comedian, 2 stars for that! read more

We went for the Saturday 7:30 pm show, and it was packed. The room was freezing at the beginning but warmed up an hour later. We were seated in a booth and had a great time - great entertainment for $25/ticket with food and drink options. We ordered nachos, and it was ok. Service was quick and courteous. Accessibility: they are not wheelchair accessible (as mentioned on the website). There are ~15 steps to get down to the seating area and one BIG step into the venue. With crutches, we were seated in a booth by the entrance, and the washroom was on the other side of the venue. The floor was non-slip for crutches. read more

Such a great time at YukYuk's! We went for the amateur night not knowing what to expect and it turned out so much better than some professional shows we have been to! Wow! Loved it. Two hours of nonstop fun laughing away. Worth every penny of the 500 pennies as one of the comics put it. Our host, Brian, was super funny too. I'm sure the comics were nervous about following him up because he was really that good! The acoustics were great, our waitress was great. Truly a fun thing to do in Toronto. Yuk Yuks first opened in Yorkville in 1976 (believe it not, Yorkville used to be popular among hippies and bohemians before it became the chi-chi wonderland it is today). Then after many years in Yorkville, the club lived at Yonge & Eglinton for quite some time before moving to its current home downtown on Richmond. Some of the best names in comedy performed at Yuk Yuks - Jim Carrey, Norm MacDonald, Howie Mandel. This place is steeped in comedy history. I shake my head when I read other Yelpers complain about the seats being squished so tightly together. That's how comedy clubs work! Not just here, but everywhere. A tight-knit crowd creates the essential intimacy and energy you need for a truly explosive comedy experience. And Yuk Yuks delivers that in spades. This is the club where you'll find the best comic talent not just from Ontario, but from across Canada and the world. If big names are coming to town (and if they're not playing a big theatre) they're coming to Yuk Yuks. Drinks and food are standard pub fare (beer, chicken fingers). But you're not here to fine dine. Right off the bat: your experience here mostly depends on who's performing and whether you enjoy them. But for a venue, it is designed specifically for stand up, so they go that right. It probably seats 200 max and there are a few booths available for reservation. Several wait staff are available and circulate for drink and food orders. There are many places to go and see comedy in Toronto but Yuk Yuks continually delivers a high quality, professional , medical grade funny show. Drinks are well priced - in Toronto where everything is super expensive, this does matter to some. Food is pretty standard bar food ( nachos, wings, burgers etc) Ticket prices vary depending on the night. some weekday nights are super cheap ( like $5) but prime shows which we tend to go to are around $25 . There will usually be about 3-4 comics + an MC so there is always something for everyone. I think the show was around 2 hours. Some nice booths at the back if you don't like getting picked on at the front. We have been to comedy clubs in other cities like NY and LA - they are way more expensive than Yuk Yuks Toronto. Took until after the first comedian to get our drink orders in, waiter walked past us at least 3 times without even looking in our direction. He finally took our order as we were mid-banter with the MC. I'm convinced he is not right in the head. Got the saddest Ceasar on earth (said it was topped with some sort of extravagant "bean" but I just see a wedge of lime). When the drinks arrived we ordered food and didn't receive it for over 30 minutes even though we both ordered fries. Also, we were the last to receive our food and we watched other tables get their additional sides before we even received our first order. My friend's chicken strips were reportedly unacceptably dry and he gave up on them. The entire time, no matter how much we waved the waiter never came back. What really stung was that the waiter went to other tables to check on them right after ignoring us. He never once came to check on how we were doing. I never was able to refresh my cocktail or make any requests until he came back with the bill. By this time the comedian on stage was having some sort of meltdown and I just wanted to get out of there even though I was extremely thirsty. Decent and clean club. Show depends on the comedians which aren't as good as elsewhere (usually). Too expensive across the board, especially the food. I've never been to a comedy club/bar before this (i'm not sure if second city counts) and I'm going to be brutally honest as I didn't have the most enjoyable experience here. They say comedians can't force humour onto you, but the one I watched did. Side note: the show I went to was part of the JFL 42 fest, and their was only one comedian (no openers) who performed for an hour and 15 mins, and I didn't really like his jokes. Not sure if this is standard for their shows, but I'd prefer more than one comedian. I came with a group of 9 people, and they were willing to sit 7 people in one row and the other 2 in a different row. We weren't happy with that but luckily they managed to squeeze us all into one row only because we had good connections with some of the people that worked here. The venue is tiny and they really do try to pack as many people as they can in it - some people didn't even get tables and I was quite confused where they would put their drinks. The menus were quite sticky, and the food sounded like regular pub fare. There wasn't anything special about the drinks either. Overall, can't say I'm too pleased with this experience. I have been to 3 comedy bars in Toronto so far, and this is by far my least favourite. I feel like it's just a tourist trap. A big group of us from work went a few weeks back. We went during the week, so the tickets weren't too pricey, and they were good about the reservation; one of us held the seats with a credit card, but they just allowed us all to pay as we got there. When I arrived I noticed that the stage looked pretty tacky with just a bright blue lit background. The tables were long, but all of the chairs faced the stage. It was good b/c we faced the stage, but then on the other hand, for some people, their tables were now at their backs, so if they were eating, they would have to eat on their lap. I was not very impressed with the service either. The staff was incredibly rude. Our table was even shushed for being too loud when we were LAUGHING. It's like they wanted us to sit in complete silence. The bathrooms were upstairs on another floor, so if you had to go during the show, it was a long trek - whoever designed that wasn't thinking clearly. I know it was a weekday, but the comedians sucked, and the hostess was even worse. I would not go back here. read more

It's pretty funny. I laughed quite a few times throughout the night (as opposed to my earlier experience at Second City Toronto where I didn't laugh once). There were 3 comedians + the MC. The MC was pretty decent and quick. 2 of the comedians including the headliner were reasonably funny. However, the 3rd guy was terrible (can't remember his name, but all his routines involve him playing his guitar and singing "humorous" songs). The venue itself is okay. We came just before it started so had to sit right at the back (it was a full house), and the leg room was really limited. Think plane economy class limited. Beers are $7 which is not too bad, and also they don't have a minimum drink demand, which is nice. I also like that theres no intermission, so no need to waste time. Tips: -free admission on your bday week. Apparently you need to sign up for that online -they say that the box office closes 30min before the show, but it seemed to still be open when we entered just before the show started read more

Main seating can get crowded on busy nights we reserve a booth for $20.00 The drinks are decent and good price. The comedians are hit and miss but mostly funny and worth the cost. My only negatives are the place needs. good cleaning and update, wait staff is spotty they have 2 good staff the others will ignore us. The MC and some repeat comedians need to update material. My first foray into the Toronto comedy scene didn't disappoint! At $22 per ticket inc. tax the prices are decent for a 90 minute live show. There was three comedians and an MC so a lot of variety, and all acts were very good in their own way with one stand out act (surprisingly not the headliner!). A bit more improv/audience interaction would have been nice: it leaned towards feeling a little scripted at times. The beauty of live comedy is that it has the potential to be completely different every show, but the jokes were funny and I laughed all night so definitely can't complain. Drinks are good value too and service was attentive: $7 cocktails / $31 litre of wine / $6.50 beers. The food menu was great too: huge portions ranging from $7-$25. I ordered a bottle and food, chairs are backed up directly on the table- not sanitary and another row Maxine's for space directly behind you. You can feel people breathing on you. Comedy is cool but it's sooooooo hard to be comfortable in your environment due to the seating. Food service is extremely slow and unprofessional. I wouldn't recommend you coming. read more

Judging by the reviews, this place can be hit or miss depending on the performers and the crowd. I will just say that personally, this place was a huge miss. I went on a Friday night-- tickets were $20. The crowd was decently sized, enough to fill the room comfortably but not packed so that you couldn't find a seat. Headliner was Cal Post. I didn't laugh a single time during his routine. In fact, most of the time I was extremely offended. Every single joke was either racist or sexist. (Here's a tip: if all you can joke about are women and third world countries, you aren't funny.) I just felt very uncomfortable. Everything he said made me cringe or downright angry. I came with three other friends, but if I had been alone, I would have just left. The other performers that night ranged from mediocre to offensive (unfortunately I don't remember their names). If someone took me to Yuk Yuk's on a first date (after an awesome meal), they'd AT LEAST get some gratitude sex. It's a comedy club. I don't know if there's much more to say. They serve food and alcohol. The comedic value of the speakers was fairly good, ranging from flippin' gut-rippin to that's-not-really-that-funny... One guy had a vulgar type of humor which I wasn't so into. But then again, another guy stuck his hand into a girls nachos because she kept talking during his skit. So it goes either way depending on what you're into. You're guaranteed to at least laugh at SOMETHING. And if you're that hard to get going, than perhaps you should spend MORE time here. Maybe some of the joy will rub off on you. Didn't give it five stars because the bathrooms are way too far away from the seats, and when you're in heels, you don't want to have to climb two floors after rubbing yourself up against everyone as you pass them by in the aisles.... read more

My date got us a booth in back so we could munch on some food while we watched the show. You have to pay extra for booth seating, but as he said, "It was worth it." "Wow, baby, your eyes sparkle even more brightly than the rhinestones of an Ed Hardy t-shirt". (REAL pick up line, or a comic's attempt at a funny? You be the judge). Duly impressed with Amateur night at Yuk Yuks (Tuesdays). Admission = $4. 2 hours of Humber comedy students refining their skills followed by open mic. For me, personally, the Humber students provided more groans than laughs, but there were a few real funny kids up there. The one singing about "After Breakfast Sex" is a legend in the making. Love the venue. Typical comedy club set up - small, dark, intimate basement. It's small and the seating is arranged so that everyone is close within range of the stage. There were some booths at the back but you had to pay $20 extra to sit in a booth. Not so cool, they should just hand those out on a first come/first serve basis. Sheesh. Drink selection was adequate and they had some food too. I saw some delicious looking fries coming out served in a large cone shaped hanging basket. Yuk Yuk's is a chain of comedy clubs across Canada. The good: I have seen special shows by The Kids in the Hall and Nikki Payne here, but those were special feature shows, not a regular comedy night. If you go on amateur night, that's what you are going to get. The bad: the room is set up to pack as many people into the room, and when it's full you can barely move and feel like a sardine in a can, but when the comedians are doing well, you forget how uncomfortable it is. The ugly: Beer choice is lacking anything even remotely craft like. Food is pricey and often cold. I mostly am writing this review to defend Cal Post, a comic I know because he currently hosts the Wednesday night show at Spirits - the longest running open mic in Toronto. 20 years this year. Another Yelper whined about what a bad time she had and that Cal Post's jokes were racist. I have known Cal for years and his jokes are not racist. Some people are too politically correct and sensitive and should not being going to watch stand up comedy. Stick to Disney movies. At the time he was also dealing with his girlfriend being diagnosed with ALS. Before you come on to Yelp and attack an individual because you didn't feel you got your money's worth, think about how well you did on a bad day. Slamming a business is one thing. Attacking a person on Yelp? Not cool. Not cool at all, That said, for a long time Yuck's was all there was, but now there are a ton of places to see stand up in Toronto, many have no cover charge and if you are from this city and can appreciate stand up, try a few, or try them all and decide for yourself how good or bad Yuck Yuck's is. I was here in March 2013; first time, and I had a really good time! The cover was about $12 to see Mike Wilmot, and there were about 4 opening acts. Too bad I don't remember any of their names, but they were hilarious. The staff are really good at making sure guests are respectful to the comedians and the food portions are huge. Let me start off saying that I had not been to a comedy show before. I went during the week so it was not as busy as I assume it would be on the weekend, however it still was great! The majority of the comedians were funny except for the 2nd comedy act. I think he was a bit of an environment activist as he took it a bit too far in some of his jokes, only getting a sympathy laugh from a few. The food was good, however, there was a bit of a limited menu since it was during the week. The specialty drinks were delicious and defiantly put you in a great mood for the show. Overall, it was a fun and affordable night and I would go again for sure. Next time though, I think I would go with a big group of people on the weekend, or a Friday at least. Word of advice: if you don't want to be the center of the comedians jokes, don't sit in the front!! read more

I've been here for amateur night as well as their pro shows. I've seen shows where I laughed the entire time and I've seen other shows where I barely laughed (this goes for both the amateur and pro shows). The crowd also varies. One time there were only about 20 people in attendance which was kind of awkward. Other times they get completely full. The club lets select amateurs perform on Wednesdays as opening acts to help develop their skills. If you don't want to see amateurs as opening acts, well, don't go on a Wednesday. Seating is a bit packed and uncomfortable. You'll almost be shoulder-to-shoulder with your neighbour. About half of the seats don't have an accompanying table, so if you're sitting there and you get something to eat or drink, you'd have to hold it in your hand/lap. They have more spacious booths along the back wall for an extra $20. However, the booths don't face the stage so you'd have to turn your head/body to see the show which I imagine is annoying. Pet peeve of mine: they have quite a bit of reserved seating, but even if they don't get reservations for those seats on a particular night, they won't open up those seats for everyone else. If the show is packed and no one's coming to the reserved seats, let others sit there so it's less crowded! The stage and back wall looked decent enough. There is waiter service and the staff were good. Bring a credit card if you want to run a tab. Even though I've had some good times here, Absolute Comedy is cheaper and in my opinion laid out better. read more

I went to see my friend perform on Thursday night at Yuk Yuks. Very funny! I've been to Yuk Yuks before but not this location. The tickets were only $15 which is pretty cheap. They do have a dinner and show deal which they have had since the beginning of time. It was clean and it looked nice inside, which was a nice change from the dingy location that used to be at Yonge & Eglinton. They also have the option of paying 20 bucks to sit in a booth. It makes you feel special and you get a great view of the stage but thats it. I thought that the button at the end of the table worked to signal the one & only waitress over. Sadly, it didn't work. Yuk Yuk's is an institution of sorts, being the longstanding brand name in Canada's comedy clubs. That said, my opinion is that they seem to rest on the laurels of the work established by the brand over the past, or the headliners they bring in. And I say the above as the actual Yuk Yuk's facility is rather underwhelming based on my most recent visit. The chairs are insanely uncomfortable and it's likely they are the same chairs and tables that have been in there since first opening. They also really jam people into the room, which means that there are a good number of rows of seating where you don't even have a table in front of you, which means you are holding your drinks the whole time. On the topic of drinks, whereas you've probably heard of the "2 drink minimum" at comedy clubs, in this case it was a 2 drink maximum as the service was completely lacking. And just for the record, those drink options are mediocre but decently priced. A mix drink and a bottle of Heineken came out to $13.75 pre-tip. The saving grace, is that the comedians were all really good, and that the location is easily accessible being right around the corner from Osgoode Station. However, being in an older building, take note that it is not handicap accessible. Prices are $13 on weeknights and $22 for weekend shows. I'd say based on ease of location and quality of headliners, Yuk Yuk's might be the better option for stand up in Toronto. Based on venue, amenities, and price, you should weigh your options though before going. read more

the comedy performed here is better than other clubs in the city but not necessarily astounding. I attribute this to a weeding out process that doesn't happen at all clubs in the city. However, black guys talk about being black, women talk about their cycle, bald guys about being bald and so on. The shows are affordable and so are the drinks.
