We are first time parents, and from our very first visit with Brenda we knew this was going to be a special journey based on the professional and compassionate interaction. My husband's questions about home births were put at ease during our first consultation with Brenda, and now we quite frequently discuss and share with our friends and family just how in awe we are of her wisdom, patience, and expertise in her craft of midwifery. It is apparent that this is her true calling in life, and as her clients we are richly blessed with the experience of working with her. Our birth story was a bit unconventional, and Brenda and her assistant skillfully navigated what was necessary to help our daughter get into the optimal position and ultimately be born without complication or unnecessary stress. After birth, my husband was able to bond with our daughter while Brenda skillfully and compassionately addressed the suturing I needed -- at three in the morning, no less. It was so nice to be able to stay in our own home immediately after giving birth, and on top of that we were also able to have all the newborn care completed at home when Brenda returned the day after birth. We are so thankful for the care, friendship, education, and spiritual encouragement that Brenda has provided and continues to provide for us. We will dearly miss the appointments and conversations, but we hope to have her assist us in the future if we have more children, God willing. We whole-heartedly recommend More Than Birth for anyone opting to have a home birth. Thank you, Brenda and Belinda for your care.

I was soooo low on iron so they were supposed to schedule me with infusions come to find out they messed up my insurance so I had to figure that out on my own and started the infusions way later than I should have .... I also had to schedule my own 20 week anatomy scan because they never did ... for being more "holistic" few days before my due date I had to take a covid test so I did and it was not positive but my midwife said the test showed I was "possibly exposed " to covid so she wanted me to do birth center instead of my home which screwed everything up for me .. I was just surprised that covid was such a big deal .... I ended up giving birth on my own having my husband deliver my baby at home ... paid 900 for a doula which I never used ....

If you don't read all of this then at least take this away: if you feel like something is off with this practice then trust your gut... Sarah was extremely cold and condescending during visits. If I had questions, I would essentially be told to do my own research. As a first time mom, that was very disheartening. Then came the birth. My options came down to being induced at the birth center or being sent to the hospital due to high blood pressure. Okay, understandable. We decided on the birth house. Only a few hours into labor and Sarah would come and "check on me" and would remind me that I could go to the hospital and get an epidural. She would then leave when I said no. There was no support, encouragement, or help during labor. After a few more hours, multiple people I had never met began coming into my birthing room "to watch". I had told one of the midwives to take their hand out of my cervix multiple times and they did not. Ultimately we decided to transfer to the hospital during labor and I wish I would have done that originally. We never got a 48 hour home visit, instead we had to wait a month to see them for a postpartum visit due to them having "a full schedule". When I brought up possible PPD, I was dismissed and told to just keep an eye on it. I would never recommend this practice to anybody.

We were 5 months pregnant, expecting our third son and wanted to have a home water birth under the supervision of a midwife. For insurance purposes, we needed a gynecologist to provide prenatal care. Dr. Gentry was recommended to us by the predecessors of our business. However, when we explained our situation, we were informed by Dr. Gentry's staff that under no circumstances would Dr. Gentry see us or talk to us because we planned on having our child at home and not at the hospital. Since our local hospital does not provide a water birth facility and we had found a midwife who would do so, we felt that this was OK. Having moved to Ludington from overseas, we were used to their health care services. Your gynecologist would not be the attending physician at the birth. It is mandated by law in this country that all births are always assisted by midwives. Dr. Gentry's staff were rude and abrupt with my wife. She left the office in tears. The situation could have been handled better. Granted, there were some differences in how insurances run, but we were treated quite unprofessionally.

Dr. Gentry said he would perform the surgery regardless, since I would die soon without it. He did so, and now, eight years later, I am in good health and pain free. Hard to imagine a more kind and generous act than that.

The registration process was simple, you fill out relevant information in an online form and it is stored in a portal account. It's very convenient to not have to print a bunch of things or fill them out when you get to your appointment. I arrived about 20 minutes early, the woman at reception walked me through their financial policies and the signatures were all digital. Afterward, I received a packet with the information I had filled out online in order to double-check for accuracy, as well as a sheet of concerns you would like to address during the visit. I was called into the room at roughly the exact appointment time. After vitals are taken I waited for the nurse for about 30 minutes, for which she apologized. She listened to my thoughts and concerns but was slightly insensitive for reasons unbeknownst to me. I feel she did not expect me to be interested in hearing about her observations of my own body but because I was (and I urge you all to be), she was a little weirded out (???). She also used insensitive language when referring to my body, whether knowingly or not, that annoyed me. The exam was simple and informative (because I asked). Overall, the staff was friendly and the visit was informative. If you are having concerns about finding a new OBGYN or it's your first visit, consider Alliance, but be firm in your expectations.
