Two stars because as my husband said "she did show up". I later found out that another doula had heard about negative experiences with Kherissa. I had called her references and things seemed to check out, but I personally would not recommend Kherissa. We were very disappointed with her services. We used her as a sibling doula. On several occasions we had a hard time contacting her, which left us a bit nervous for when it would be delivery time. I had her babysit during my doctors appointments so the kids could get to know her, etc. So there was a lot of investment on our end. $40/hr for 1 elementary school age child is a lot, especially considering we gave advanced notice, but it would be ok if it was worth it in the end. Although she did complete the services, I would not say this line of profession is her calling and again would not recommend her. I had spent several weeks deep cleaning the house in preparation for my baby. While pregnant, I hired a babysitter just so that I could take the time to write out a detailed guide, plan, etc on watching the kids including personalities, how to handle different situations, where to find things, etc. I covered all the bases and even make a worksheet to fill out so that I could keep track of things and know how the days went. Despite having this, she did not follow what was on it nor fill out the worksheet. We also had trouble communicating with her -- apparently she did not understand the plan, and I was particularly alarmed she went some time with her phone dead. We have no landline, so if there was an emergency, that was very concerning. I was in the hospital 3 days. My husband came home a day before me, to a house that was trashed. He spent hours cleaning paint marks off the walls, stain on the dining room table, dried play-doh stuck everywhere. We had stained linens, missing cap to kitchen bottles that would normally last several months, the dishwashing fluid empty (which is the last thing we need to do coming home with a newborn just discharged from NICU -- make a run to the store; and I had said to use the dishwasher). I had asked for the house to be kept in the clean condition I left it. It was not. I did not see any of the light housekeeping I asked her to do. She did the bare minimum of cleaning the dirty dishes they made and putting toys away. This was not a new expectation -- it was a clear part of the agreement. Also, we have a clear policy to take shoes off inside the house. Her kids walked through the house with their shoes on. She didn't bring food for her kids -- she fed them out of our fridge. I thought it was unprofessional to even ask about her kids coming over, but I was trying to be understanding when I said ok to the one time. As I told her since then, I probably don't even know half the things that happened. I know that it was important to me to come home to a clean house. I had my husband communicate this again to her before we left. Overall, she did get the job done -- the kids were watched, but we were very dissatisfied with her. I don't know how much attention she gave the kids. In her defense she said my kids were a handful, but I have never had a babysitter say that about them! I also don't think it was very professional, when I was first interviewing her, for her to mention bringing her (I believe 21 year old) sister in law to help watch the kids like it was no big deal. I am glad she mentioned it early on because I was very clear I need to meet and approve anyone who is coming to watch the kids -- she can't just bring people to help cover. That plus the communication concerns and lack of respect for my wishes and my home space has unfortunately put a dark cloud over my birthing experience, to the point I have to take recourse and let you know. For all this, we paid over $1000 (even though she did not cover the whole time because we used another babysitter too, who was honestly half the cost and always cleaned up the house, replied promptly and gave me updates, etc). read more
