I got the acrylic nails with gel polish and the chrome add-on and the total came out to £65.00, and I prepaid online so there was no hassle when my nails were done, I just walked out the door. I had a very nice experience with my nail technician who made good conversation during the appointment. I got exactly what I requested. Though during the filing, I was noticing that it seemed like my skin around the cuticle and sides of my finger were getting sanded too and it was a bit uncomfortable and left the a bit agitated and slightly red for a couple days after. There was also excess acrylic on the underside of the nail that made it not smooth and a bit of a hinderance around the sides of the undersides of the nail that I wish she had filed away before the end of the appointment. However, the nails are still staying on pretty good for a month's grow-out time. (the attached photos are fresh out of the salon). The ambiance of the salon was on-par for a normal salon; nothing that overly stood out or sparked concern. The salon is located in a convenient area, it's near the Tube station and Westfield mall.

I'm now in Notting Hill and I read the poor review of Nails 2000 (closest to my flat), so I ended up at Top Star Nails in Shepherds Bush (which I did actually walk to but it was far from convenient). ANYHOO. For £20 I got a basic pedicure which looks fine. The problem I had with this place is that it was extremely crowded and in no way relaxing. Its not entirely their fault because there aren't a lot of other options, especially in that price range, but when I'm getting my foot scrubbed not 8 inches from another woman who is waiting her turn, its kind of gross. They didn't have massaging spa chairs (which I am OBSESSED with) and I was kind of crammed in a corner. Then the woman who was looking after me handed me off to someone else to paint my toes, so I had to gather everything I had with me and literally climb out of my corner to another part of the room and I ended up sitting at a manicure table with her kneeling on the floor under the table. Awkward! I walked away with pretty toes but the overall experience sucked.

I had the best manicure of my life at the OPI Nail Bar, located in Selfridges. My nails really stood the test over the course of two weeks: briney salt water in Barcelona and Valencia, partying hardy in Ibiza, and lugging/packing/unpacking/re-packing a 32 kg suitcase (I like to shop, sue me!). The amazing part is that my nails did not chip or break. They were in pristine condition after all of this. It was pricey though, I wasn't expecting to pay $50 for a manicure but I was desperate and it was worth it. The Nail Bar has all of the new OPI colors available both to use for your manicure and for purchase. You even get to pick out which lotion you want to use...that hand massage was heaven! The technicians take their time and are in no hurry to rush you out (even though the space is tiny, especially if you already have shopping bags). My only complaint is that because the nail bar is located in the women's street wear section of Selfridges (where all of the Oasis, All Saints, Miss Sixty stuff is), that I was subject to La Roux/ Sugababes/ David Guetta blasting for 45 minutes.

Another thing lateness or earliness can avoid the nasty smells that accumulate in the day from the chemicals acrylic nails need.
