Writing this revue took a lot of consideration. As a new business owner in 2021 I was referred to…read moreHLM by a neighbor. I was using the company initially for tax purposes only. The CPA that managed my account seemed very friendly and knowledgable. After many conversations she thought it best for me to change my business to an S-Corp. During this process I was advised to apply for a different tax ID number because the business was tied to a different name when I started it. During this process my CPA "stepped away" and I was put with the owner for the management of my taxes and now payroll. Mercedes, was a different vibe. I did not get overly friendly communication from her, but that didn't matter to me as long as she managed my taxes well. WELL. Let me tell you. The decision to change my Tax ID caused a heap of cascading problems. In the last 2 years I have received countless letters from the IRS saying that I immediately owe money. These letters ranged from $1000-$5000. I was also simultaneously receiving checks from the IRS. It was very stressful. Every time this happened I was told the issue was being addressed, yet it continued to happen. Last week, after all of this was supposed to be in the past I received an additional letter under my old tax ID saying I owe money again for 2022! How is this possible? I had been scared to change accountants because the mess HLM created. The problem was so deep that I wasn't sure anyone else could get a grip on it. The final issue that forced me to leave HLM was my 2023 taxes. I got a casual email from Mercedes (in February 2024) telling me that I owe the IRS an additional 10k. She noted that it was because I didn't have vehicle depreciation. 10k? My business is small, 10k is a huge oversight. After I told her that I would not be using her services anymore, I was sent a long email blaming me and the IRS for all of the problems. She stated that I received a (1) call from someone on her staff in December to tell me about the 10k issue. I never received an email or any follow ups. Also, I had never received an unscheduled call from HLM in 4 years. There was always an email to schedule a phone conversation. I left HLM with a complete loss of trust. Overall my experience with HLM was very negative. This is my story and my situation and I thought it was important to share with other consumers.

Yesterday I walked in and made an appointment with Chris Metzger for this morning at 9am. The staff…read moreSina at the front desk was nice and friendly. I know I supposed to talk to a Chris something but I just could not remember the last name. Sina helped me to figure that out which was good. My appointment with Chris Metzger was this morning. Upon walking in, Chris was already walking out of his office and greeted me. I have never meet him before, I guess he figured out I would be his first client he was seeing this early cold morning. I have been procrastinating to come to Charles Schwab. Not like Charles Schwab is bad, in fact I heard good things about Charles Schwab and particularly this branch. Chris was the one I should see to get help, so I was told. I am just clueless about anything investment and to me, that's like Greek to me and I have no idea and no interest in that "language". Then again I have to do what I need to do. That's life, isn't it? Chris led me to his office and I was dreading this session. I thought it was going to be a painful and boring morning for me. Turned out, it was not too bad at all. I am pretty sure Chris' personality and approach helped. He was cheery, helpful and extremely patient with me. And yes, I told him I am clueless about anything that has to do with investing and I really was not looking forward to my session with him. No, I did not say it in a mean way. I actually put it across very pleasantly. Please, I do have my manners ;-) He set up a Charles Schwab account for me, went through and explained some materials and did not make anything too complicated for me. Chris also told me I could contact him anytime if I have any questions. At the end of the session, I supposed to provide him some information and I told him I could drop by before the end of the day to pass it to him. While driving in the crazy Friday rush hour traffic, Chris called and informed me he was about to go into a meeting. I told him no problem, I would leave the information at the front desk for him. I am definitely happy to recommend Chris Metzger to anyone who is interested in investment services at Charles Schwab.

About 30 minutes before options expiration, I logged into my accout to close out 5 of the short calls (I really only needed to close out 2 but I didnt want all of my shares called away), I put in a limit order to close out 5 of the calls, and was waiting for it to execute . It would have executed but somebody at Schwab logged into my account, cancelled my order and put a market order to close out all 10 in the money short calls. Their order got executed at a terrible price. They also closed out the 5 put options with a market order and the trade went through at a horrendous price. I ended up paying $2k in time premiums that would have disappeared in 20 minutes. They literally threw $2k of my money away. They could have placed limit orders and at least try to get me a decent price. What infuriates me was I was logged into my account and I was closing things out and they cancelled my order. They could have at least called or texted me but they did not. They also closed out some short put options on a different security that was 10 points out of the money and expiring in 20 minutes. Absolutely no reason to close out short options that are expiring in 20 minutes. They have no regard for their customers money.
