Kenji is a great stop when you need a different bite of food.  Kenji sushi is a small corner restaurant in Old Town with a couple tables outside and a handful of indoor seating.  We stopped in on our daily food crawl through Old Town to get toro nigiri and a four piece of their "Special" maki roll (shrimp tempura). Their chicken yakitori is also a worthy bite. On our third and last visit, our order for the "Special" maki roll was lost in translation and we were served spicy tuna. Still good but the "Special" was our favorite.

The ramen really hit the spot, The shop exterior drew me in because it reminded of the storefronts in Japan. The interior space was small and intimate just as it would be in Japan. Menu is small making it rvery easy to make a choice. I decided on a ramen featuring a local favorite, the boquerones, which also came with a perfectly cooked soft boiled egg. The noodles had a perfect bite to them; not too doughy or soft. Broth was nice and clear with well balanced flavor. Staff was friendly and attentive. The waiter was happy to repeatedly pour my cider the Basque way which requires a lot of arm motion and coordination. Apparently, the cider has to hit the glass in order to reach maximum potential. This little spot was a refreshing break from the tourist crowds in Old Town, especially if you are craving some Asian flavors.

They have excellent fish here in San Sebastian but to see you prepared so lovingly and so professionally was fantastic. Be warned on Friday or Saturday night will need reservations. It is kind of a hip place. Not what I would call family-friendly. They also have very little other than sushi which however is excellent. It is one block from the beach which is nice and they also have some outside seating if the weather is good. They close for siesta and don't reopen until 8 PM.
