There is a fire pit at every camp and a table !(: There are many caps inside the creek camp !! We just ended up staying in the first one because it was a bit isolated but if you keep driving down ! You'll hit the camps closer to the creek but even camp number 1 was close it was like a 5 min walk. Best creek spot is Area 51 where you can go rock diving , and 3 min ahead of that there's a little rock pool It's 12 dollars a night not bad It's cold at night, and hot during the day !! Yosemite Creek Campground - Area 51 @Islandalondra adventure - Campgrounds Near Me - Mariposa County, California

Just stayed here for 2 nights. Yes, the road down to it is a pain in the ass. Is it worth it? I think so. Currently one side of the campground is closed for repair. This, unfortunately, is the BEST side of the campground... and when in use, possibly the best car camping setting ever. Most of these big sites are directly on a beautiful creek. Repairs were well underway, so I would guess that this will open soon. However, the side that is open right now isn't too shabby. Although there are some real dogs (like Site 39), there's a stream through the middle where you can pull water from (need filter or boil, of course). I drove through the other campgrounds near this site - White Wolf and Porcupine. Sites are piled on top of one another at White Wolf. Porcupine is the same, only right on Tioga Pass Rd. Seriously, unless you're not comfortable with driving down very rough roads, Yosemite Creek is the place to be. There's a trailhead right there. Plenty of parking. The only bad thing - and this goes for ALL campgrounds in summer - is that you have to be a vulture, ready to swoop in at the right time in order to get your dream site (at least in my experience). read more

A great place to stay, especially if you want to see Yosemite National Park without having to make a reservation a year in advance! But, be aware, even though the campground is cheap ($12 per night) it's within the Yosemite Park border, so you have to shell out $30 just for park entrance fee... Ouch! I brought my two kids, 9 years old and 11, and we had a great time! We arrived later than we planned, 3pm on a Thursday in August and the place was full. We asked a couple that was already occupying a site for a only one night if we could crash their campsite. They agreed and it worked out perfectly. **Swimming holes by site 51 and 55, campfire ring, picnic table and bear box at every site. (Bear box size 33"(D)x45"(W)x18"(H)... our cooler barely fit. Measure before you go)** If you're just looking for a rustic campground and you don't want the whole Yosemite experience, you could save $$$ by staying outside the entrance to the park. There's plenty of campgrounds in the surrounding areas. Pros: -Great way to camp in a Yosemite campground without having to make advanced reservations. -Almost every site is near the creek (although, by August it's nearly dried up) -Quiet and beautiful -Easy access to trailheads, including a 6 mile hike to the top of Yosemite Falls Cons: -Long, rocky road to get into the site (I don't know how people get their little two-door cars down there, but they do!) -YELLOW JACKETS! And that's an understatement. I don't mind bugs at all, really, but be prepared, once you bring out your food, the yellow jackets will be on you really quick. Fortunately, they're not aggressive. We spend the day here in the area in the privacy. The road was not easy to get too, but for the peace and quiet always worth it. What an adventure right? There stream near by that you can get water from. Don't drink it straight, have a filter and boil is my suggestion, but hard core campers know what to do. In a way going to this camp ground is roughing it a bit. If you like that kind of camping and peace this is the place for you without a shadow of a doubt. I think going during the week it's easier to get the space you want, but who knows maybe it's hard all summer long I can't tell. But this is a nice little spot to hang out at for a day or two. I like to venture off to different places during the stay so I wouldn't just go to one place. Try it out if you are open to new things and roughing it a bit. This is a great campground, especially for those who enjoy roughing it. Actually, it's not too rough at all for experienced campers. There is no running water so you will need to bring in your own or understand how to prepare water for consumption. The road into this campground is not for RVs or cars with reduced ground clearance. Most standard cars should be okay but please use caution. The road to the campground is narrow and filled with many pot holes/mud holes. It can take any where from 15-30 minutes to reach the campground/return to the main highway. Remember that once you return to the highway, you're still about 30-45 minutes from the nearest store/gas station (during our visit, White Wolf was closed). Once in the campground, it's fantastic! You'll find a large camp sites, with plenty of tree cover and a large running river that is great for swimming or floating/tube rafting. Make no mistake, the water is cold and it'll take a few minutes to get used to it. We went in late June and the day temp was in the high 80s while the night temps managed to get very cold. I recommend bringing a hat to wear at night otherwise you'll wake up with a headache from the cold. The campground is pretty remote and does have a good amount of wild life so be sure to use the food storage lockers. Oversized ice chest will likely not fit into the lockers. Being so remote and not easy to access, there is not a lot of drive through traffic creating dust or noise (a big plus in my book!). All of the campers seem very friendly and helpful toward one another. We met some great people and our children played together daily. There is an abundance of deadfall/cut trees so firewood wasn't a huge issue. It's a good idea to bring a bundle or two, but we found more than enough to create nightly camp fires. The restrooms are clean but are not flush toilets. They do a good job of keeping them clean and free of bugs. Bugs/insects weren't a big nuisance in the campsite except in the dusk/sunset hours. Once night falls and the temp drops, the insects seemed to vanish. This campground is first come, first serve. Sites without the yellow tag indicate availability. We arrived at this campground around 1pm on a Wednesday and had multiple sites to choose from. Friday/Sat, the camp sites did seem to fill up by 10-11am so arrive early if those are the days you will come in on. There are some truly great sites over the bridge and back by the end of the campground. These sites sit right on the river and many provide you with you're own little swimming spots only 30 feet away. We had a great camping experience here during our 5 day stay. It's not a campsite for those who need a store/services close by but it is a excellent campground and provides a great camp experience without all of the crowds and 2 hour traffic jams of Yosemite Valley. read more

Located around 5 miles from HW120, this camp ground is as remote as it could get. We we visited around 1st week of august 2015, this camp ground had a few vacant spots. One can hike through the creek (as there was a trickle of water flowing in the creek). NOTE : This is an unreserved FCFS camp ground, the marker at the start of the road could be deceiving. The road is rough and could be a little harsh on your favourite small/medium sedan with low ground clearance. read more

First come first serve camping, that didn't fill up even on the weekend. Possibly because there is no running water and the road to get to the campground is an old mining trail (curvy, narrow, and bumpy). BUT as far as not having to hear cars drive by all the time and not having to have reservations its great. This is a cute little campground in Yosemite that is a bit difficult to get to, especially if you have a small car or don't have 4 wheel drive. It's a rough road. You have to drive about 20-30 minutes down the road before you reach the campground. Sites are only $12 a night and we got one fairly easily on a busy Friday. Rangers didn't hang around at the campground, so if you had questions you would have to ask other campers. I recommend this campground for sure if the other campgrounds are full, which they usually are. Nearest store is a gas station probably 45 minutes away though. read more
