My loved one suffered a traumatic stroke. They were lovingly cared for at Wellspan York Hospital,…read morethen transferred to UPMC Memorial for longterm acute care. We were apprehensive due to the reviews, but hopeful, because the drive was shorter. Now, we wish we never set foot there. They made an already devastating experience even worse. They changed medications without telling us, which affected preexisting conditions and personality. They were not equipped with specialists needed. Their nursing is subpar. They are lazy and inattentive. Their communication with patients, families, and each other is horrendous. We had a family member there at all times, except overnight, because we could not trust them to do their jobs. We learned that the night shift staff was the laziest. We advocated and attended to our loved one when alarms went off and we had to hunt people down, or if the nurses didn't assist with toileting and loved one messed. We noticed symptoms and requested care and testing. We were so excited for our loved one to transfer to the next facility- a light at the end of the tunnel, though we felt pushed out of UPMC Memorial too quickly. When we arrived at the new facility, we learned that UPMC did NOT efficiently prepare them for us. They had no idea what our patient needed. We had to start over. The new facility immediately began correcting wrong medications and fixing UPMC Memorial's mistakes. We are praying their care will ease the mental anguish and unnecessary distress caused to our loved one, over time. If we didn't have a person with our loved one at all times, who knows how this would have turned out. UPMC Memorial dropped ALL the balls when it comes to providing care, comfort, communication, consistency, attention, and healing. There are a handful of good eggs for whom we're grateful. A tech here or there, a nurse or two, a PT, an SLP. But they alone unfortunately cannot make up for the utter recklessness and laziness we experienced in our few weeks there. Please, go elsewhere.

He's Puerto Rican and has tattoos all over. This hospital has just really taken a plunge into the dumpster. P.S. there's a metal detector at night! I will never ever ever go back. They didn't even clean his room or change his linens. They barely checked on him. And because he verbally stated multiple times that he felt he was being treated terribly, Instead of finish treating him and making sure he was ok after they gave him two blood clots in his arm by not checking to see if his iv was secure and well they missed his vein and got it under his skin. They sent him home with no follow up appointment. Nothing. I'm just really disgusted. I'm not usually a person who leaves reviews but this needed to be said. I hope they change the way they judge folks and treat everyone equally.

They told me I did not need to checkout because they would not bill me. They sent me home. They ended up billing me and my insurance anyway. I filed a complaint with insurance company about service refusal by OSS and false charges!

I spent years of my life going here for both knees, lumbar back pain, and cervical back pain. No…read morematter how bad my pain became or how much my mobility became affected, all I was offered was pain management by injections and epidurals. When I found myself able to pay for an outpatient lumbar back surgery that was offered to me but insurance would not cover, I persisted for several months in an effort to get a straight answer on how much I would be billed for the surgery so that we could move forward. I was consistently given the run around and passed on to other staff in this effort, but never once given the answer. During this time, my back pain and problems continued to worsen to the point that I could barely function, with no concern from OSS doctors. Within a month of leaving OSS for a neurosurgeon, I have had back surgery and my pain is gone. I was also seeing doctors here for my knees. I was told repeatedly that my knees "weren't that bad", I was too young for surgery, and that I was too fat for surgery. The incredibly awful condition of my right patella was essentially ignored by doctors while they told me that it wasn't that bad because I still had a small bit of space between my tibia and my femur. Meanwhile, my patella was covered in bone spurs so severe that my new surgeon had to pry it off during my knee replacement surgery, and he found it to be so built up w arthritis that it was twice it's normal size. He told me it was one of the worst knees he's ever seen, and that we will be replacing the left knee as soon as possible to avoid it reaching the same degree of deterioration. Again, within a month of finding my new doctor, I had a full knee replacement on my right knee. By the time this happened, I was rapidly losing my ability to walk, and my knee was locking into a bent position regularly. Oddly enough, neither of my new doctors had serious concerns with my age nor my weight. When I hear a friend tell me that they are going to OSS for care it literally makes me feel sick to my stomach. Per my experience, OSS is nothing but a pain mill that allows patients to live w ever increasing pain and decreasing mobility to collect payments for injections that are recommended every 6 months. Imagine that payday on 4 areas of one patient's body. The best thing I ever did was leaving OSS for doctors that actually care about the fact that their patients have had their lives stop w a screeching halt and simply want to get it back.

Will be coming here when I can't make it to my primary doctor. Thanks PP York!

On Friday when I woke up I saw that it had spread and was larger, so I went to the ER at UPMC York. They confirmed the diagnosis and said they wanted to keep me overnight for observation. The next morning, Saturday 1/18/25 I got an email from the hospital stating since I was not admitted my insurance would not cover the observation. I informed staff that I wanted to speak to someone in their billing department. No one ever came in, however an ENT doctor came in to examine me. He stated that this condition would clear up in a few days to a week and that I should call his office on Monday to follow up. He said I would be going home today and to continue the antibiotics. When I questioned staff when I would be leaving some twit named Megan, I think a nurse, said the doctor wants to keep you another 24 hours for observation!!
