Spoke with two very sweet employees, who permitted me to taste a few candies before committing to purchase. This seemed fair, as they weren't busy and I am American, which meant I wasn't sure what things would taste like. In any case, the prices are reasonable. The staff helpful and kind.

this is a super gimmicky sweet shop, mainly for the tourists in york!…read more it does give a slight ye olde sweetie shoppe feel, as you walk in? but thats where it ends! saw plenty of york fudge, york toffee, boxes of sweets with pictures of various places/landmarks of york. not my kind of sweet shop! they did have a good range of sugar free sweets, and giant gob stoppers, the size of a tennis ball! and any parent buying that for there children, needs there heads looking at! its not a big space, inside the shop, and it has not been open long. but it will appeal to alot of people, mainly tourists!

Boycott this place!…read more I have never encountered as unpleasant a person as the owner/manager of this gallery. In a competitive market, this person should not be supported. There are many excellent and welcoming galleries in York that provide more positive experiences--both for the quality of their art and for their customer service. These places are far more deserving of patronage. Don't let this odious man spoil your day with his disagreeable tirades.

Terrible Owner! The…read moreart is okay, nothing special and a lot of the pieces have been in the shop for numerous years. The icing on the cake, however? The 'owner' was a pompous, arrogant man who was rude, brash and ill-mannered. I would heavily suggest avoiding this shop, especially if you are visiting York as a holiday/day-trip since he seems to be trying to dampen good days with his own foul mood.

Castle is a small chain of modern art galleries with affordable original art and limited edition…read moreprints. We went in here to check out some 3D art that resembled a piece we recently saw at the British Library, and ended up talking to Stuart about another artist by the name of Bob Barker. Stuart did a great job sharing the stories behind each art work, and showing us the piece we really liked in different lighting conditions. We're still undecided, especially as we're going to an art show tomorrow, but we plan to buy two pieces from Castle after the weekend. We found the art very affordable, even the Bob Dylan prints they were selling. Castle Gallries is definitely worth checking out if you're nearby!
