I like Habitat, don't get me wrong, but really, why bother when you can get good quality furniture for much less. Especially if you are a student! Which is perfect for this area. Flocks of students come and go through Leeds, moving every year and needing to get rid of or attain furniture every time they do. Junk Again are aware of this and have cleverly positioned themselves not far from the postcodes that are predominantly student populated. If you are looking for a cabinet, a table, or arm chair, or are looking to get rid of, a fridge, a freezer, or chimney pot, Junk Again is a great place to go. They are slightly chaotic but that just adds to that old fashioned feel of shops of this type. Plus no-one will look down their polished nose at you as they so often do in Habitat.

When my friends and I moved house last year we opted for a grand four bedroom house that was…read moreunfurnished as it wold cost us a little less. That, sadly, was not the case in the end but that's more to do with the Estate Agent and building than anything else. However, pretty much the only thing that we required for our move was a sofa and some arm chairs. Enter: Junk Again! My old housemate had spotted Junk Again on her way through Woodhouse and suggested that we tried here for a cheap second hand suite. I was game for any bargain and so when she called me, all a fluster, to tell me about this awesome sofa, two arm chairs and a pouffe for a mere £40, I came immediately to the scene. Yes. That's right. All that for forty flippin' pounds. The friendly chap explained that he had planned to have them cleaned but hadn't yet, so was willing to let them go for that much - all we needed to do was clean them. No probs, Handy Hire in Headingley solved that one for us dirt cheap too! We couldn't have been more chuffed. Inside you'll find an array of lovely old furniture and the odd antique, for seriously cheap prices. My advice is: if you're moving look here first. I've a few more things I need myself so I'm planning a re-visit very soon...

This beautiful antique jewellery shop is completely spoilt by the ignorant, snooty manager…read more I was searching everywhere for opal earrings for a birthday present and came across some beautiful ones in the window of this shop. I went inside to take a closer look to be glared at by the manager and ignored. Instead she decided to stick her head into the window display to act busy. There was another member of staff in the shop bur she was dealing with a customer so I went over to the lady with her head in the window to ask for assistance. She ignored me a few times but then turned round and looked me up and down before grunting "what do you want?" Some decent service sprung to mind! I asked if i could see the opal earrings and the manager shouted at the shop assistant to help me despite her already being tied up with customers. The shop assistant acknowledged me straight away and said she wouldn't be long. The manager's attitude really made me want to walk out and take my business else where but opal earrings where nowhere else to be found! The shop assistant came over when she was free and took out the earrings for me to see. She was absolutely lovely and really helpful, she made friendly conversation and made me feel valued as a customer. This shop is stunning and the pieces you find in here are truely beautiful but it is ruined by the appalling attitude of the manager. I think the best thing that could be done for this place is for the manager to be sent her p45 and be on her way.

The shop specialises in gold and silver antique jewellery, but they also have collections of jet, amber and various other stones. There appeared to be a massive disparity in the monetary value of the items displayed. Necklaces for £30 would be nestled unassumingly next to £700 rings, with some £100 stud earrings looking on. The shop also stocks a number of more unusual items. Stopwatches and intricate brooches complete the haul in the window, I did hunt for a treasure map amongst them, but my search was fruitless. Inside Aladdin's Cave, there is a vast array of keepsake items, aside from jewellery. Collections of napkin rings, vases and thimbles are placed next to decorative boxes, compacts and photo frames. There was a rather beautifully crafted hip flask that really could have been used to quench Captain Jack's rum soaked thirst. There is an exciting hotchpotch of miscellaneous goods both in store and on their website. It is a great shop to inspect if you are in need of a special gift.
