Finally I walked over to the ice cream counter and asked " should I be standing at this register or that register to order?" I finally got my order. I am not saying I want the whole crew yelling "WELCOME IN" when I walk in, but damn! Actively engaging a new customer when they walk in isn't completely outdated is it?

Since I am just visiting and wanting to try out some good local cuisine, I politely interrupted their conversation to ask the name of the restaurant. Love me some chicken and dumplings! DAIRY QUEEN! Seriously! DQ! Okay, I live in far west Texas, but grew up in the north and many years as a young adult on the east coast. I have traveled all lower 48 states and have never seen Chicken and Dumplings on their menu before. So, being quite sceptical, I stopped in to try them. OMG! They were good. VERY good! Needed some additional salt and pepper, but other than that, they were wonderful! Lots of dumplings and chucks of chicken. Sorry. I ate it so quickly, no photos. After that, I didn't go for a while but the other day we went as a group and the couple was there again, and they once again tasted like the Shipley I know and love that's in like every corner in Houston. I don't know if it was bad timing or if they're simply better when the owners/managers are working, but I'm glad they're back. As usual, the great Shipley flavor, the dough is especially perfect with the iced donuts. Not too hard, not too gooey. Just the right in between. And of course the cake donuts are great, pair perfect with coffee. Shipley coffee is delicious too. I'd go to them any day before Starbucks or Dunkin.
