I found Jamie's nutrition services after a long search for a dietician in LA. I opted for her 4-week + meal plan program. My schedule has been crazy since my husband has been battling cancer, and I needed some support to help reset my eating habits (which had been in rapid decline). On top of my demanding schedule, I have a complicated history with food. I've had disordered eating; have followed special diets ranging from veganism to the very meat-heavy autoimmune protocol; I have a ton of food allergies; and I am ridiculously picky. Jamie was incredibly supportive and empathetic. She listened carefully to my history and targeted her plan and advice to my individual needs. In my case, because I am dealing with overwhelm, she took a very practical, gradual approach to incorporating changes. For example, while she developed a full meal plan for me, she set the incremental goal of incorporating just two or three new meals in our first week. Jamie also did an excellent job with creating a meal plan that was realistic, delicious, and tailored to my picky taste. Coming from various experiences with disordered and overly strict eating, I really appreciated that Jamie was not judgmental or dogmatic about any particular food types. She didn't even criticize me for the random bowls of cheese puffs that appeared in my food journal. : ) Perhaps most importantly, Jamie is an excellent listener and asks great questions to target her program to your needs. She doesn't rely on the one-size-fits-all approach that I've seen with so many other dietitians. I was referred to Jamie by a friend who had a great experience with her. I was helping my mom look for a nutritionist based on her doctor's recommendation to gain weight. My mom has a lot of chronic conditions and is also prediabetic, making her dietary needs more complex. After having baby #2 I needed some extra guidance on how to properly fuel my body in order to keep up with the demands of breast feeding. Jamie has been an essential resource for over a decade now to learning, adapting and creating my dietary foundation throughout the years. In 2007, while attending Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, I was diagnosed with Celiac disease. At that time, gluten was not the buzzword it is today, and it truly felt like an uphill battle to understand the ins and outs of a gluten free diet. Thankfully , Jamie and I were on the dance team together and she was instrumental in laying the foundation of what my diet is today. I no longer view Celiac disease as a hurdle, as Jamie has been able to educate me and have my focus redirected to what I CAN eat, rather than what has been eliminated from my diet.  Now fast forward to May 2020 and I was diagnosed with Gestational Diabetes in the second trimester of my first pregnancy. Since I was already following a gluten free diet, due to Celiac, I felt completely deflated. I thought I had already restricted my diet so much, how could I possibly now follow a diet to regulate my blood sugar? It all felt so heavy. I immediately contacted Jamie, and she assured me I could handle this curve ball. We scheduled a Zoom call and quickly got to work.  Jamie knew how much I relied on meal planning each week, and we were able to devise simple, tasty meals and snacks that stabilized my blood sugar throughout the day and were gluten free. She was so helpful in explaining portions, different brands that were less carb/sugar based, and the importance of timing in maintaining a diabetes friendly diet. Once I hit the ground running, Jamie would then check in throughout the day to check on my blood sugar levels and to ensure my diet was both beneficial/nutritious for the development and health of my baby, but also foods that were delicious and satisfying to me.  What I have always admired about Jamie as a registered dietitian, is she has always conveyed the importance of balance. She knows I love my sweets, and has always accommodated and given me options to fulfill my sweet tooth.
