Varanasi is fast becoming one of our favorite dinner spots. There are two choices for Indian food…read morein the city center of Linköping, and Varanasi--the new kid in town--definitely beats the competition. My husband and I crave spicy food, especially here in Sweden where it's harder to come by at restaurants, and the vindaloo at Varanasi satisfies. It was the first thing I've eaten at a restaurant here where I needed to cool my palate a bit with some rice! Hooray! We've also really enjoyed the "Balti" dishes, which come to the table sizzling in a tiny cast iron pan. The rice is perfect, and the paratha and naans (though we haven't tried all the varieties yet--more reasons to go back!) are terrific--they have a subtle pretzel-type flavor to them that is addictive. My man's mango lassi was enormous (and yummy), and the few appetizers we tried were also perfectly sized and came with interesting sauces. The only underwhelming dish for us was a korma, which we found excessively sweet for our tastes--but would probably be ideal for those who don't like spiciness. The menu is extensive and you'll find something for everyone, including vegetarians and vegans. And the kid's menu also offers a nice selection! Varanasi sits in the old Shin Nori location, on the second floor of an unassuming storefront on Ågatan--look for the small red carpet they've placed at the street entrance. From there you walk up two flights and you enter a magical world filled with stained glass lanterns and, in summer, a shaded, private patio. There is an elevator in the courtyard for those who need it. :) This is not a budget restaurant, but it is a fantastic value because of the very high quality of the food and the portion size. All of the ingredients taste super fresh. We will definitely be going back, and we hope it thrives here in Linköping because it is the best Indian food we've had in Sweden so far!

The atmosphere was nice yet casual - relaxed and warm. The service was excellent, as was the extensive Swedish and international beer list. The food though was average - nothing excellent and not worth the typical higher Swedish price point at all. A $30 usd dessert described as a baked chocolate trio was literally three chocolate bites the size of Andes mints. We got it to go and they brought it to us in a snack sized plastic baggy. I'll spend that on a dessert at a restaurant whose ambiance and menu warrants it. It's a pub, with pub food. The food was 3 stars so the overall average rating is 4. Visit De Klomp on a night you're in the mood for excellent beer and and excellent service, but don't go for the spendy (by American standards - pretty typical for Sweden) pub food.

The craft beer revolution has really improved the quality of beer that can be found also in smaller…read moretowns. This place is located in the basement right around the corner from Elite Hotel (actually possible to go here without exiting the hotel - just go past the bar and take the stairs down). They may be doing something that has already been done in many places before but they are still doing it well. With around 20 beers on tap and 80 or so by the bottle it is easy to find some nice stuff. The locally brewed beers are also something not easily found elsewhere and also pretty good. The space has a nice and cozy atmosphere where they have really made the best possible use of the space. The friendly and pleasant service is a great plus as well. Prices are a bit in the high side but I would rather pay a bit more for something that is good than less for something that is not so the old you get what you pay for holds true.

The Bishops Arms is a chain of pubs owned by the same guy who owns all the Elite hotels in Sweden…read more They are usually found next door to an Elite hotel but in this case it is a few blocks from the hotel but they are still affiliated so the voucher you get as a frequent guest at Elite can be used here. The concept is simple - large variety of craft beer (around 20 or so on tap and many more by the bottle) as well as impressive selection of whiskey combined with well-made pub grub, The look is the typical English pub and I appreciate the fact that there is never a TV in any of the Bishops Arms pubs and the music is kept at a low volume so it is easy to speak. This specific Bishops Arms is not my favorite as the staff can at times be a bit disinterested and the clientele to some extent appear to be local drunks (a bit uncommon for Bishops arms as the price level usually keep them out but perhaps the local drunks in Linköping are more affluent than elsewhere). The food here is however still pretty decent and the dish of the day is usually good value for money.

I ordered a triple hamburger, it was not juicy or taste much or gave this delicious homemade feeling, but it was just ok! I took one bite and I gave it to my husband and that says a lot as I love hamburgers! I would definitely not order the hamburger again at this place but definitely the nachos! Like people before me said, i would definitely NOT order a burger(with meat) because the quality of the meat is disgraceful. You're better off buying hamburgers at your local ICA. Actually sad because other items on the menu are quite good, but they still have not been able to respond to the poor meat quality.
