Mike is a patient and skilled yoga instructor. I hope he is still teaching. I am trying to locate him.

This review is just for Khai's men's class on Wednesdays at 7:45pm. If you're unfamiliar, Google…read more"Khai Truong-Vinh" and the details are on the first link. I started taking these classes in San Francisco about two months ago when my out-of-town/state/country friend was visiting SF and insisted that I take his class. I was hesitant, but finally decided that this is exactly the type of thing that is a Bay Area vibe, so when in Rome, right...? I've had mostly positive experiences at the Sun Room in San Francisco, though individual instructors will connect with different students differentially, so finding the one who best suits you is a matter of personal taste. That said, I found that my strength, flexibility, and overall sense of comfort with my body has progressed in yoga more quickly than I expected. I've been looking forward to checking out the Menlo Park location for quite some time, as it's close to my work. Last night I finally left work on time and made this happen. Firstly, the location is convenient. Right off the main street, off-street parking and plenty of it, and centrally located on the peninsula. The venue itself is clean and well-maintained, a nice combination of homey and professional. The lighting is well-done and the vibe is very comfortable. Khai's instructional style is exactly as charismatic as you would hope for a person who's new to this, as I am. He's super-friendly, welcoming, encouraging, and connected with his students. He pushes you enough without pushing you too far. In a nutshell, he's the perfect yoga instructor. I'm definitely going to integrate Khai's Wednesday night class into my rotation, going when work and other responsibilities allow. It was just a fantastic experience with friendly people in a nice environment. Check out the link if you're interested, and if it's the type of thing you'd be into, I highly encourage giving it a try.

The class is about an hour and I think the poses that were taught helped get rid of my stress for the day and ease me in a calmer state of being for the night. I appreciated that she was attentive to her students and give great adjustments without being critical. She is very loving and compassionate. I think my only complaint about the studio was it was a bit hard to find and the parking was not as convenient was I would like. Otherwise, I intend to go back.

Turns out it was a great fit! Environment 5 stars: A huge pet peeve of mine are stinky, neglected yoga rooms! This place is clean, organized, and the atmosphere is peaceful which made it that much more inviting. Classes 5 stars: They offer a series of classes with select dates. I took a class during their winter series. The teacher I had was very supportive, and had a really great energy. Between guiding us through postures, and having us focus on breathing, not only was the work out great, but it puts you in a unique state of mind to reach a great mediation. Cost 5+++++ stars: They ask for a suggested donation. Best part: they forgo their own wallet and give directly to a yoga charity! **This place is really about the practice and helping cultivate your best self! And they are selfless in that endeavor! Highly recommended! 5+++ all the way!**

Only thing it's missing are showers. as…read moreyou need them after taking a class, especially hot yoga, I left that class as a sloppy wet rag . Exhausted but in a good way. Last night I took a yin style restorative class for an hour. I'm recovering from a pulled right hip muscle and needed some relief. I had a massage 2 days ago a week after I really tweaked it. And last night's session was just what I needed. As I was getting stiffer over the weekend from just sitting down. Only so much one can do with a pulled muscle. Long story short, I limped into the studio and walked out happy and relaxed. Such a great session!

Overall, my experience has been good and I would recommend the studio. However, a few things you should know before you go: - Classes can get very crowded (I don't believe there's a cap on students) so sometimes there will be very little space for you to put down your mat and stretch. - There are a lot of heated classes here, and if a non-heated class follows a heated class, the studio will still be warm. If you don't mind warm rooms it won't be an issue, but as someone who really can't tolerate exercising in rooms that are not cool/borderline cold, this was a big reason that I eventually stopped coming here. - Parking in downtown Palo Alto is difficult during peak hours (after 5 PM on weekdays and especially on weekends between 10 AM to 7 PM), so you should budget parking time accordingly. With all that said, here are more detailed impressions of each type of class: - Vinyasa: Nice flow sequence. Lots of attention to breath work, mindfulness, form. Plenty of modifications offered. Soothing environment. - Slow flow vinyasa: Same as above, but at a slower pace, with somewhat less challenging movements. - Hot Pilates: This class is incredibly popular and gets very crowded on weekends. It is more of a Pilates-inspired aerobics class than classical slow-flow Pilates: the music is loud and upbeat, there is a lot of squeezing and pulsing done to the beat, cardio (jumps, mountain climbers, etc.), and light resistance work with 1-3 pound weights and resistance bands. The class is too fast-paced for teachers to offer individual corrections, but they do provide modifications. I think the room is heated above 100 degrees but I'm not sure; either way, you will sweat buckets. If you like heated workouts, you will love this, but as someone who struggles even with warm rooms I simply couldn't cope with the heat. To each their own though. - Restorative yoga: The poses are relaxing but the teacher talks a lot for a restorative class. Most of the time, she is giving Buddhist-inflected encouragements to self-reflection, which I think I would appreciate if I was more interested in Buddhism but sometimes I just want to rest.
