I found the Life Centre and was able to catch a yoga and meditation class with Zephyr. I was so in love with the 90 minutes that I spent there. I was offered everything that I needed. Zephyr taught with such extensive knowledge and was able to share so much of her own experiences. The meditation portion was absolutely wonderful. The studio space was pretty good. I took class in the studio located on the main floor which was an all white room. There were mats available for use along with straps, bolsters, and blocks. The locker space was small but they did offer locked lockers to use which is a huge plus. I am definitely looking forward to my next time in London so I can go try another class. Thanks for a wonderful afternoon!

I've been looking around for Yoga classes in North London and I'm amazed as to how many there are:…read morethere's various yoga studios as well as various independent teachers that offer yoga sessions at community halls: Billy Doyle is one of the latter and he offers his yoga class at Lauderdale House in Highgate (situated within Waterlow Park). I really enjoyed coming here and I will certainly back. What I enjoyed is that this is a relatively gentle approach to yoga (it's called Yoga in the Kashmir Tradition). For me this was perfect for a Monday evening to wind down and relax...yes, relax. This is in fact what I most liked about this session: I didn't feel like I was or had to perform. Billy is an older but quite remarkable older gentleman. He is very kind and soft-spoken when you first meet him, but I was surprised to find that when he starts the session, his voice is firm and directive. I find the setting here perfect for my needs; I sometimes feel that at yoga centers the atmosphere is way too "chill" and meditative, where every conversation is about yoga, the healthy mindset and wearing appropriate clothing. But here it seems more of a community gathering with added health benefits... Billy Doyle offers two classes here at Lauderdale House during term times: Monday evenings and Tuesday late mornings. He also has another session in Kew Gardens on Thursday late mornings. A meditation class is held at his house in Hampstead on Thursday evenings.

And then I found the Life Centre Islington. Sweet relief. This is actually a really cool dedicated yoga studio. Very clean and well kept, with always friendly receptionists (trust me, that makes a big difference) and a nice selection of classes. The only complaint I have is that they claim to offer pilates but never in the evening and I can't come during the day. Also they seem to have more than a few substitute teachers which I think if I go with more regularlity would start to bother me. But then again, switching it up with teacher styles can keep it challenging. While the name leads you down paths of hippie women who don't shower and wear their hair in dreadlocks, it is comfortingly yuppish. Free mat rental too. And lockers. Winning.

I have only been to 3 classes and the teachers have been great accept for one that is supposedly world renowned.. go figure, but i never buy into celebrity yoga anyways. They offer free mats but they are DISGUSTING. I asked for spray to wipe mine down after class and they didn't even have any? I asked them when they are cleaned, she said when they get dirty.. like once every few months. YUCK! I don't know what era we are living in but foot fungus and spreading of illness is prevalent through these mats. This is first time i have ever been to (in 10+ years) a studio that offers mats, yet not tell us to clean them after use. Pretty gross for a nice studio. Cleanliness is part of yoga covered in the Nimyamas as Saucha, so that is why i am surprised to see such lack of care. Bring your own mat is the only solution, or keep bugging them and they may see the light.

When it comes to classes, if you are starting yoga or don't have refined direction, you're most likely going to love it, but I don't get overtly excited. Practicing yoga for 10 years makes me a fairly advanced yoga practitioner, but I see there is so much more to improve. And yes, I am a yoga snob, but I don't find Triyoga's classes very advanced. I never thought I would like pilates. For some reason, I imagined it like yoga but without all the good parts, but it's actually quite dynamic and not like soul-less yoga at all. The studio offers beginner, intermediate, and advanced Reformer classes, their own spin on HIIT called TenHIIT, personal training, as well as massage. I've tried the Beginner Reformer class and TenHIIT. Reformer was was an hour long, small group: only about 4 people in the class, but I still would have liked a little more personal instruction. TenHIIT was an even smaller group: only 2, me and one other girl, in the class. Our instructor tortured us with a variety of strength and cardio circuits: weights, squats, lunges, jumping jacks... repeat x4 then onto treadmill sprints, TRX arms, burpees, plank... it was 45 mins of *tough*. Really, it's just like having a personal training session but on Classpass. The showers look nice (I showered at home before work) and there's towel service, which is convenient. 4 stars for small classes, great value, and variety from targeted Reformer for newbies like me to kill-me-now personal training sessions.

This is where I conquered my fear of Spinning…read more I finally did it. Took the plunge. Jumped on the seat. Spinned my a*s off. The Friday lunch class with Cris is a great intro. As its a shorter class, you won't be wanting to die for quite so long. (kidding). He's super high energy, and plays great music (Whitney!) that made everything feel not so terrible. A few things I had to learn: *you do not need special shoes. Athletic shoes are fine. *have the instructor help you adjust your bike if you are new. *bring some water. *bring a towel. *don't freak out, push yourself. I did this as part of the 30 day new client special (includes both GV studios, 30 days for 30 quid!) -- and did two spinning classes. Really great way to burn calories quickly, in a fun way and super high intensity. The class fitness was mixed so it never felt like a bunch of hardbodies (though there were some of those too!). This studio also has the Power Plates classes. It is housed in a basement, and is a bit more dated feeling than the Covent Garden studio. All of the lockers are out in the open (which is great) and the reception staff were always kind and friendly. Very close to Goodge Street Station. If you are freaked about spinning -- try this! The intro offer is stellar and you can try it for a fraction of the cost to see if you like it, and the studio is convenient for you. Unfortunately for me it's just a bit too far from work or home to make it a permanent part of the workout, but I have Good Vibes to thank for getting me out of my 10 year Spinning aversion!
