This is the first studio I've found in Louisville that actually has vinyasa classes - where you move and do different poses each time. There is a good variety of times and styles, and the ones I've been to have been varied and enjoyable. The staff is friendly and the space is great. One con: parking. The lot is tiny, and if you don't get there early you'll have to drive around and try to find a street spot. read more

I'm going to second the fellow reviewer who said to stay away from Kristi Fulkerson. For context I have more than 10 years of yoga experience, 25 years of dance experience, and I am a 3rd year doctor of physical therapy student. I know my body, I know how to modify poses and I know how I need to move to protect my body. I took class from Kristi this morning and she tried to force me to into a subtle adjustment and while more "correct" in a classical yoga sense created a great deal nerve pain in my left foot. I tried to push back gently saying that my foot could not tolerate that position and that I knew my body. She snapped at me: "Well I know yoga." The only reason I didn't walk out of the class was because this happened in the first 5 min. And I didn't want to throw away the $15 I had just spent or disrupt the 15 other people more than necessary. She went on to make a pointed announcement to the class that her adjustments were for "safety". "I don't want anyone to get injured" she said. I call bullshit. I saw many people in alignments that I knew to be problematic and she left them alone. As for the content of the class as a whole, I would call it OK but not terribly accessible. Most poses she selected required a large degree of hip, shoulder, and spinal mobility. No detailed modifications or alternatives were offered. This limits the ability of people with decreased joint mobility, injuries, and a larger body habitus (aka if you got big boobs this class is FRUSTRATING) to fully participate in her class. TLDR: Kristi Fulkerson is a mediocre yoga teacher on a power trip. read more

What a gem of a studio!! I'm so grateful I found it. My teacher was absolutely amazing and guided me into a whole level of breath-body connection throughout the practice. The space is uplifting with a gorgeous ambiance. Very welcoming and unpretentious for an irregular yogi like me. My visits to yoga on Baxter are always the highlights of my week! I've been going to this studio for 8 years now. Truly my home place for practice. After trying many studios in the city, this is the place I feel most comfortable and able to practice with no distraction and with the ability to focus on my own progress. Kristi from day one walking one for my first class has made me feel welcome and works with not only me, but all others in the class, on different variations of poses to meet our own needs and abilities, and also challenges us to push ourselves to embrace our bodies abilities that we don't know we have. Went to a free class they offered that was pairs yoga. It was pretty awesome! The instructor was great at explaining things and made us all feel really comfortable. I liked the setup of the studio as well. I really like that they offer the 30 days for $30 for new customers. The $15/class or 110-140/month is a little more than I'd like to pay since I know I can only do 2/week, but looks like you can get a package for $10 a class. EXTREMELY rude. I witnessed one of the employees harass and cuss out a girl taking her dog to the vet next door. There was no signage on the parking spot the girl parked in. just recently I've gotten into yoga. I find it helpful to move the body and to seek out new ways to use the mind, lungs and heart. I've been a practitioner at a Bikram studio since 2010, but I decided to venture out and try another studio closer to home. I went to the Candlelight Yin class and fell in love. The teacher, Heidi, had a wonderful and welcoming attitude and did a fantastic, nonthreatening job with adjustments. So, I went again a couple days later and took the Beginners Hot Yoga class. Unfortunately, it was the complete opposite of my first experience. I won't mention the difficulty of the class, because that is different for everyone. What made my experience downright awful was the teacher, Kristi, who I later found out was the owner. She was very pushy with her verbal adjustments,and humiliated me in front of the class when I did not make the adjustment she suggested. She also made a point to remind everyone of her superiority by doing complicated postures and telling us about her qualifications in the middle of our class. It was clear that the class was not about the students, it was about the teacher. Upon further research, I found that Kristi has been in the business for awhile and trained with Bikram himself. I can appreciate all of this information, but it's been made clear that one's training/experience does not necessarily make them a good business person. I was both a customer and a student and I was not treated like neither. In summary, I would hesitantly recommend Yoga on Baxter, but I would never recommend taking a class from Kristi. read more

I've only been to one class at Yoga on Baxter so far, but I can already tell you I love it! I had a card for a free class, so I tried the Tuesday 7:15 p.m. warm vinyasa class with a friend, and it was amazing! The class was really difficult for me, which was awesome because that's what I was looking for. There's also lots of room for modification, so no matter what you can make the class work for you. The studio is really nice; spacious enough that you don't have to be on top of your partner, and very clean. There isn't much parking, but if you can't find a spot out front there's a street in the back with plenty of spots to park in, so you shouldn't have any issues. I looked at their class schedule online, because I enjoyed the class so much I'm going to purchase a membership. It looks like the offer lots of classes at different times, so it should be easy for almost anyone to find classes that will work for their schedule. I definitely recommend this studio! And they have a special deal for new members that's $30 for 30 days! read more

In town on family business and I needed a place to get my yoga on. Did a lengthy Google search and opted for Yoga on Baxter. I deboarded my plane at 2:15 PM at SDF from DFW, made a beeline to the 4:30 PM Beginning Hot Yoga with Beth. It. was. amazing. I definitely got to release a ton of negative energy and had a challenging workout. I am considering the Vinyasa or Yin Flow class on Sunday. I feel so good! I have a free class pass for yoga here and decided to try our warm vinyasa on a Tuesday evening. It was one of the best workouts I have ever had. The room was toasty but not burning up, so I got a good sweat up. The instructor was great. She told us countless times to modify whatever we needed. She also let some of the more advanced individuals do handstands and other more advanced moves. At the end of the session, she gives everyone a towel to clean up with. The studio is nice, relaxing and clean. I think there were about 20 individuals in this session but there was plenty of room in the studio. I never once had to move my mat so I did not hit the person next to me. Parking is extremely limited; however, there is a park one street over if you cannot find parking in front of the building. read more

My favorite yoga studio! It's a locally woman owned business. There are a variety of classes for whatever you're in the mood for; relaxing candlelight yin or challenging and sweaty warm vinyasa. All skill levels and walk-ins are welcome. The knowledgable instructors genuinely care about their student's practice and will gladly answer questions or provide assistance. When I get a chance to practice here, I always love it as I'll see neighborhood friends. One of the few places with a precisely 1 hour class option, (thankfully at noon as well)o you an fit it into a work day. Wonderful yoga community. Love the fact that they stress that yoga is a practice, not something you'll ever be perfect at. Wow! How to describe my love for this studio?! I have been staying in Louisville for the summer and was really looking to find a studio at which I could continue my yoga practice. I was lured in by $30/30 days intro offer, which has proven to be a great deal! The studio is inclusive, non-judgmental and intergenerational. The studio's location is very accessible and the inside is spacious and filled with beautiful plants. I have especially enjoyed the unique diversity in classes that this studio offers. From hot yoga to ashtanga and yin Baxter has the style that your body is craving on any particular day. I really enjoy the atmosphere of this studio. I feel like some of the other studios in town are "stuffy", in my opinion, and Yoga on Baxter is just the opposite. I did Bikram for a long time and honestly left that studio because the owners were not receptive to me when I brought up a seemingly big issue (multiple times) for this type of studio---one of the regulars, an older man, came to class reeking of cologne, they just wouldn't say anything to him about it and we both paid to be there! My nostrils were burned one last time and so was my membership at that studio. They also let this same woman come to class repeatedly late, she would walk in during breathing exercises with her little bag holding her car keys and phone... and I would see this woman on my way driving into the area, out running! When I found out they were teaching this same woman to become an instructor, I just lost all interest in watching these same regulars continue spoil my experience. Okay, back to the point----I have learned more advanced postures from Abby than I would have ever dreamed. The instructors mix things up and really engage their students, calling us by name, and supporting us with complements when we try new things they have taught us. They have a large variety of classes, you honestly never know what kind of class you may walk into. I went to a normally scheduled class one day and had a teacher I had never seen, during meditation at the end of class, she started singing and it was truly one of the more religious experiences I have ever had. (I am not religious.) Lastly, I have never had bad impressions from any of the teachers at this studio, nor the owner. Kristi, the owner, did something for me which I was totally not expecting, given the nature of paid contracts and whatnot, when she refunded the months I was not able to come to the studio following a major car accident and took me off the monthly withdrawal until I am able to return to classes. It is going to make it so much easier for me to walk back in those doors when I am both physically and mentally ready again to get my body upside down. She was extremely compassionate when i told her about this and did not hesitate to get my refund back to me. Freaking awesome. read more

Practicing here has helped me calm my mind and definitely changed my body. Yoga On Baxter (and owner, Kristi) didn't introduce me to yoga, but they introduced me to a form of yoga that I fell in love with! Kristi is the perfect type of teacher for me (and has hired an array of teachers who may vary in technique and style, but share her commitment to teaching, mentoring, and caring for their fellow yogi-students). I wouldn't be nearly as happy, fit, or (if I do say so myself) flexible if Yoga on Baxter hadn't been there for me when it was. I do NOT recommend Yoga on Baxter. What they don't tell you when you buy your unlimited pass is that it does not in fact cover all classes. I've been going there for three weeks now, 3-4 times a week, and went to the noon Saturday class for the first time today. Evidently, even if you have the unlimited pass, you have to pay extra for this class. Not knowing this, I signed my name in and went into the studio as normal. The owner started yelling at me in front of everyone, accused me of trying to "steal" the class. I explained to the owner that I was a new student on an unlimited pass and that I genuinely didn't know you had to pay extra for the noon class, as this is not marked in any of their materials and was not told to me when I purchased my unlimited pass. She continued yelling at me, calling me a thief--which was out and out humiliating. She then kicked me out of the studio. All over $5, which I gladly would have paid had I simply known. It's such a shame that this happened. I had really enjoyed being a student there and had intended to buy the yearly unlimited pass. read more

I can't say enough great things about Yoga on Baxter. I suffer from a rare chronic disease, and Kristy (the owner) helps me with adjustments to poses I can't do so I can still get the most out of my practice. I feel safe here! There are never yoga snobs or showy people. There are new students in almost every class I visit, and they seem immediately comfortable, just as I did. Beginning Hot Yoga is awesome, but doesn't have to be for beginners. The class can be as challenging as you make it. I recommend this place to everyone! read more

I was visiting my friend for the weekend and needed a dose of yoga during my time away. I did my own search and coincidentally enough, he recommended Yoga on Baxter as well. Whenever I travel, I love checking out the different energies in cities so I make it a priority to check out a yoga class. I only had time/availability for the community class- super affordable at $5 plus a $1 rental mat fee. It was such a nice and welcomed change of pace from my normal vinyasa practice. The energy was great. The class lifted my spirit and definitely reenergized me. I hate hate hate to do this but just one little concern- I feel like the rental mats could be a little more well taken care of/cleaned. I don't know people that travel to Louisville often from Miami, but if I ever encounter one, I am definitely suggesting they make it a priority to check out a class here.
