I used to go to Ynys Las beach frequently as a child, as I grew up near Tregaron, about an hour's drive away. I've never been to such a wonderful beach before or since. It's absolutely vast and almost completely unspoiled. There's a toilet block and a small visitor centre, and a wooden walkway across the dunes, but otherwise it's completely as nature intended it to be. Even in the middle of Summer the beach itself feels empty because there's so much open space.
As a child my cousins and I used to love running up and down the dunes, eating picnic on the sand, collecting pretty shells and paddling in the water. The sea is a bit rough for swimmers, but otherwise it's perfect. I really enjoy taking my own children there when we come to Wales for visits.
It's also a great place to walk dogs in the Winter and to work up a hearty appetite! read more
