My daughter attended for a year and half and she thrived at Mayne preschool! Ms Jessica kept us informed and made us feel comfortable leaving our daughter in their care when she first started preschool. They helped with potty training, her speech development improved, and she learned her colors, letters and shapes before turning 3. They have great activities and programs for the kids throughout the year. Unfortunately, we relocated for work, otherwise she would still be attending. read more

This school is amazing! My son, and I have had a great experience here at Mayne preschool. I had been referred here through a friend, and every step to getting my son enrolled was great. Ms. Mona, and Ms. Maria, helped me a lot! Being a single 1st time mom things can get overwhelming, and they were there to answer all my questions, and re assure me through out the whole process. This school has SO MANY opportunities, and events all of them are family friendly from school outings/ field trips to events held at the school such as water day for the kids, music day, sports day, they even brought snow for the kids to play in around Christmas time! And so many more events, and opportunities. All the staff are super sweet, and friendly greeting good morning, good afternoon to all parents who come in for drop off, and pick up.The school is gated, and has secured doors/ gates so I felt very safe, and did not have to worry about any unauthorized people coming in. Ms. Georgette was my son's main teacher, and I cannot express how much I appreciate her as well. She is very attentive to all her kids in her class room, and always has a great attitude, and always has a smile on her face, her and her helpers always made my son feel safe, and excepted in the class room, and she shares with me his progress as an individual as well which helps me know that he is learning in growing. It makes me sad that he could not continue into kindergarten through their program, but I know they have planted a seed that will help him prepare for his next school. My 2 oldest kids attended this YMCA, so of course, they were my first choice when it came time for my 3rd kids to attend school, but staff had changed, and so did the quality of care. The staff are nice and welcoming however, in a shirt period of time ( a little less than a year) my daughter has come home with multiple injury notes that range from being injured on the playground to fights in the class room to the last straw where I was told she was running in the class room, fell and hit her head on a book shelf. My daughter had a knot the size of a tennis ball for 3 weeks. We had to take her to get x-rays and cat scans, and she complained of her head hurting constantly. I was scared for her to sleep at night, not knowing how this would affect her, behavior, actions, thoughts, or if it would affect her long term . The Knott as when down. The discoloration has mostly gone away ( after 3-4 months), but my daughter seems to have a permanent dent in her forhead. Mind you, my daughter is not bad. If she was, I would say so. She can be stubborn when it comes to trying new foods and unwilling to go with someone who's unfamiliar, but that's a 2 year old right. Needless to say, my wife and I had become somewhat uncomfortable before the injury to her head, so when this happened, we ultimately stopped bringing her and, at this point, wouldn't recommend this site. read more

The five star rating is for school itself. Because of the staff and especially the office staff our kids have blossomed and loved going to school. As far as what the executives are doing by taking away Ms. Bertina and Ms. Myra I give them a -5 stars. Anyone that has taken child development courses know that children thrive best in a structured routines environment. While also being nurtured. Ripping away those core elements would not only be a huge disservice to the children, it tremendously effects the parents as well. read more

Full disclosure my child doesn't go here. I was at the park when some caregivers brought a group of kids to play at the park. What I saw gave me pause because I've been looking into preschools for my son. If you want your child to be yelled and barked at constantly for playing then this is the place for you. Everyone's childcare philosophies vary but it's pretty well established that play is when younger kids learn by playing uninterrupted. I don't see how kids can learn or thrive being constantly told to stop, get down, don't, slow down, no jumping etc. The entire park is padded FFS. I'm not exaggerating, I actually had to take my son home because he was getting agitated by the adults yelling. Also some manipulative threatening kind of punishments that I wouldn't want someone using on my child. That doesn't teach them to be kind and polite, you're teaching kids to yell orders and not to trust themselves. They get three stars for being organized, keeping the kids safe within the park and following ratio standards and generally caring for the kids competently. read more

I only give 1 star because of the situation going on with the executives of the Y, regarding the school Director and clerk, the school as of right now and staff are great my daughter loves attending. I just got off the phone with Brandi Collato who informed me she is the chief operating officer of the Y, through out the conversation she remained very professional but very adamant that the Information we as parents have received is not true, she stated that they were going to send out an informational letter all along (which was sent out just last week) to inform us (parents) of the transition. However when I asked if there was anything we could say or do to change the "transition" of ms Bertina and ms Mayra (who are both excellent and wonderful at what they do for the children of our community) she basically said no because the transition was already in motion and has been in motion for a while now. Which in my opinion still represents that the Y does NOT care about the opinions of the parents because even if we waited for the information from them, that they were supposedly going to give all along, there would still be nothing we could say or do to change the decision because it's "already in motion." According to Brandi after I asked for a parent meeting, she did agree that it could happen but she also informed me that the meeting would not be to change any decision just basically to let the parents voice their concerns. In other words it would mean nothing to hear our opinions and it would change nothing. I am very upset with this situation because the ONLY reason I felt comfortable bringing my child to this site is because of the positive impact ms Bertina and ms Mayra have and it is very unfortunate that Brandi Collato and the other executives at Y do not care or cannot help come to a better resolution. read more

Staff is wonderful, their facility is well set up, love that they do so many fun and interactive activities with the kids keeping them engaged and learning but most importantly having fun through it all. My now 8 year old attended for about 1 year before heading into kindergarten and I loved the program and teachers so I decided to come back with my now 4 year old and she attended their toddler program and returned to their 4 year old's program after the pandemic allowed the school to reopen. My daughter loves the everyday activities her teacher has for her and I love seeing her come back home with new "projects", as she calls them, everyday. She loves when her classroom gets to go out for walks together. During the summer she looks forward to water day and all the summer fun activities . Another big plus is the communication with both the parent(s) of the child and the child themself. Ms. Ashley does a wonderful job with communicating with me and finding time out of her day to send photos along with messages and responding to messages about how my daughter is doing and what my daughter has been up to. Ms. Bertina is wonderful as well. Very heartwarming, always cheery and greets everyone with a smile. Ms. Mayra is very kind, informative and makes the enrollment process very easy. Id give their facility a 10/10 for simply making you feel like you're part of the YMCA family and how well they are and guide the children through learning. read more

THE STAR IS FOR THE DECISION THAT WAS MADE FOR OUR STAFF Wed, 5/15 I had a very informative conversation with Brandy C. HOWEVER I'm still left in DISBELIEF that our staff is being taken away. She was very professional but couldn't give a direct reason of the changes. I am DISAPPOINTED in the decisions that the executives get to make ESPECIALLY because we as parents have NO SAY SO and it's because of OUR CHILDREN that the school stays a float. Ms. Bertina and Ms Myra DON'T DESERVE this, nor do our children. I was told that the parents were informed of the change, I was NOT and for the parents that were, I feel like they were informed AFTER "I" Informed all the parents about the move and a fellow parent started a petition. The WHOLE transition makes no sense to me, we as parents are BEGGING/FIGHTING to keep our staff and it means Nothing. This is UNFAIR and BAD FOR BUSINESS in my opinion and I am VERY UPSET. I am not in education, I don't know the politics in school and changes either. I just KNOW this isn't a good one for me and/or the other parents and students. I am very flustered about Ms Bertina and Ms. Mayra potentially being moved to another facility. My daughter had been attending this preschool for 2 years But we have been apart of this Mayne family since my little sister attended about 7 years ago and now my 3 yr old is there. When Ms. Bertina was a teacher my sister was in her class and we always felt at peace knowing she was in good hands. When I came to enroll my daughter, Ms. Bertina is the now director, and I couldn't have been more at peace knowing my daughter was gonna get the best experience. My family is happy with Mayne preschool. It very clean, welcoming and in these times we live in, it is very SAFE. The staff is always professional and loving to the children. When I come to pick up my daughter, bertina and Mayra are sometimes on the school yard engaging with the children and the children are so happy. That is what made me referred my friends and family here because I know the children are at their best interest. By removing Ms . Bertina and Ms. Mayra how do we know our children are safe ? The YMCA ADMINISTRATION couldn't even inform us parents about the move. This is not right, unfair and absurd. I will No longer feel safe because this goes against what the YMCA of Greater Long Beach vision statement claims. I will no longer refer families and will be taking my daughter out and telling my family, who have children enrolled, to take their children out as well. If we are not heard. read more

My daughter attends this preschool and We need to save our site director and site clerk Miss Bertina and Miss Mayra! They have been with Mayne preschool for over 10 years and the executive director of the ECE branch of the YMCA of greater Long Beach wants to relocate them both to a new site with without giving any reason. They don't even care to give us (parents) any notice of this huge change! Miss Bertina and Miss Mayra have been a huge factor in why myself, my family, and friends have been enrolling our children to this site. They are a huge contribution to making the school such a loving, friendly, fun, clean and safe environment for our children! It would be a great disservice to transfer Miss Bertina and Miss Mayra from Mayne preschool. My wife and I along with other concerned parents have spoken to all the parents whose kids attend mayne preschool and The executive director and the entire ECE branch needs to know that we do not agree with this major decision that has been made without any of our opinions or concerns in mind. read more

Great place!! Teachers are amazing and patient!! They make the anxiety of leaving your kid less by far!! Made me feel comfortable returning to work. My daughter has learned a lot attending this school. Her teachers are amazing and answer/explain any questions I may have. You can tell a lot about how schools treat children by the way your child reacts to being dropped off and my daughter has never reacted negatively. They also have many activities to take home which prepares students for future homework routines. I've never had the horrible feeling that some parents get of needing to change schools.
