She was also not yet independently using the restroom among various other concerns. In our search, we visited various schools, some that we were highly impressed with. We were hesitant to use a home-based school, but decided to visit anyway. Upon meeting Mrs. Valerie, we were immediately put at-ease. She listened to our concerns and never made us feel as though our daughter was behind; we could tell right away that she understood kids and that she truly cared and was knowledgeable about their development. She was open and honest in her communication and was just a very warm and welcoming person in general. During her year there, our daughter learned so much! I don't mean an academic focus (which is still there) but in other ways; she's now more social, independent, and her communication skills have improved. In fact, during her IEP with the district, we were told she no longer qualified for services and they asked us what school she had attended. They were surprised with how much progress she had made in one year. I can confidently say that the majority of her progress is due to Mrs. Valerie.
