Low frills, a place for me to train (until I was asked to take it easy on the bags). If you are looking for a gym to train, you can do that here. Depending on your preference. Not one cell phone in the steam room. Actual privacy, and a gym. Which is what I was paying for. Westside people tend to be more chill. Minding my business was easier for me to do at this location than city Los Angeles. I have been earthbaring since it was good earth. The corporate takeover, hashtag wellness trend definitely changed things. Still on the search for a space that has heavy bags that I can train on and not be asked to be less strong... with fresh air / natural outdoor options. Maybe throw a little tai chi in the mix. Stay well.

The GENERAL MANAGER , name "Mike Smith" Very disrespectful,…read moreunethical, and unprofessional. Today I stopped by at this location to grB a shake and tKe a picture of the back examination machine, so I can search for a home version one. I am a former member , with 6 years of continuous membership, and due to my recent injury on a treadmill on BH location , I had to cancel my membership since 2 months ago, when I arrived today at SM , I explained to this general manager that all I need is to be accompanied by one of the available employees to the back extension machine, for me to take couple of pictures. This rude , non-gentleman manager told me about the policy of the club being exclusive to members only , and refused to help me. I walked out feeling disappointed, disrespected , and betrayed. I don't think people such this guy name "Mike Smith" can present equinox club properly, instead they would make the reputation of the company jeopardized . He definitely needs to address his behavior, and instead of only following the polices , practice some leadership manners, as well as kindness and compassion. I would never visit this club again because of this general manager's poor skills of management, and terrible customer service. I strongly believe he doesn't fit the culture of Equinox club at all.

I don't think words can articulate how grateful I am to Luis for helping my back pain…read more I've never met a trainer so skilled in massage therapy who understands anatomy so well. After a car accident in 2024, I spent a long time going from specialist to specialist trying to get relief from my back pain. Luis at John Reed in Santa Monica was the one who finally made a difference. His bodywork alleviated pain I'd been living with for a long time. What stands out most is that he had nothing to gain by helping me, and he did it anyway. He's kind, incredibly thorough, and genuinely cares about people. If you're at John Reed and dealing with pain or recovering from an injury, ask for Luis. I can't recommend him enough. He's also an excellent trainer and helped me see what I was doing wrong in several exercises. If you're looking to excel in your fitness while nursing an injury, Luis will steer you in the direction of success.

I had a pretty disappointing experience at the front desk when I came in to try a day pass…read more I visited around 2 PM on a Thursday, and when I walked in, one of the staff members was talking about selling memberships instead of acknowledging me. There was no initial greeting or sense that they noticed a potential new customer had entered, which immediately felt off. I ended up greeting them first, and even then, the response was very lackluster and uninterested. There was no effort to make me feel welcome or explain anything about the gym. I was simply told to sign the release form and pay, with no enthusiasm or engagement whatsoever. I also had to ask basic questions like whether they had lockers and where to go, because none of that information was offered. There was no walkthrough, no orientation, and no sense that they cared about making the experience smooth or welcoming. The only thing mentioned was that I could take a towel. For a place that is clearly trying to attract new members, the front desk experience felt very transactional and indifferent. First impressions matter, and this one made me feel like they didn't really care whether I was there or not. I'm sharing this in the hope that management or corporate can look into who was working at that time, because the front desk sets the tone for the entire experience--and this one was not welcoming.

I want to warn community members who come here that the facility is not upfront about how the…read morepasses work and the objective is to take your money. I wanted to sign up for the group x fitness and after spending at least 20 minutes clicking on the sign up link and getting directed in circles, I decided to get the community center pass because it stated there was access to the John Wooden Center. The website does not make it clear if the rec pass includes the group x pass but only allows you to purchase the pass in order to then be directed to the group x pass which does not work online. So, if you want to do just the group x fit classes like yoga and dance, you First have to pay $120 just to gain access to the fitness center. It is not clear that there is an "entrance fee," of $120 on the site, even if you only want to use the facilities for group fitness passes. When you ask for a refund, because I still could not access the group x passes after buying the community rec membership, they state the following policy attached bellow. Basically, you cannot say you didn't understand their policies after you buy the rec center pass, although it is unclear and confusing about what the pass allows and that it is essentially a fee that you have to pay just to access the group fitness classes, even if you have no intention of using the center and just want group classes. They then state on their website that if you pay monthly, you have to renew manually but after requesting cancellation, they send you a message saying that your account will be charged for the month you requested to cancel but you wont be charged for further months, which doesn't make sense because the website says you have to initiate cancellation and you are not on autopay with the monthly membership. Basically as a first time community member you are getting scammed out of $120 dollars, even if you cancel the following day. UCLA recreation has an unethical business practice and policy for community members, and it is unfair towards those wanting to support the UCLA community. I bought a gym pass to a more transparent gym this same month with the expectation that UCLA would be open to cancellation as I had not even been to the gym or campus and now I am experiencing a disproportionate impact with my account being charged by UCLA after a request to cancel the day after. Community members be advised, they don't care about you but they will take your money through unethical business policies and practices. This completely diminishes my view of the University. A university receives enough donor support to be able to refund small payments like this, and this shows that they do not care about their community at all.

Corepower Yoga is a big national chain and so of course it's best to rank the facilities against…read moreone another rather than against a greater ideal of what a yoga studio could or should be. Having been to many CorePower all throughout the United States, especially in the southern California area, I can say the studio is pretty average. It's a bit old and needs updating. There is nasty old carpet throughout the entire facility and the paint and surfaces are worn down. They do have one large yoga room that has mirrors on two walls, which is preferable to the mirrors on one wall that seems to be the new trend. The worst situation here is the parking. Westwood has serious parking challenges, and that you only get an hour and a half of parking when you come to this facility is nowhere near enough time to park, get to class, take a shower, get back to your car. I ended up paying $3.25 for just going over by a couple of minutes, and that is charged on 15 minute increments so it adds up quickly. The instructor was a substitute for my yoga sculpt class and she was fine. Her music was contemporary and upbeat. The class was, as the style of classes very hot and humid. The room was filled with 20 year old girls. There were only two young guys there and no one over the age of 40. I personally would avoid coming back to the studio as I didn't enjoy the vibe and the carpet on the floor really grosses me out. TL/dr: not my favorite Corepower Yoga facility

I absolutely love all of the classes, the Reformer class being my favorite (29 reformer machines, are you kidding me?). I've also tried all of the other classes, and they are outstanding. I love how the classes are 45-55 minutes long, so you can get in a great workout and get on with your day. The classrooms are clean, beautiful and very high-tech, and the instructors strike the right balance of being helpful without being overbearing. The variety of classes is great: reformer Pilates, boxing, spin, hot yoga and mat Pilates, cross-training, and Studio 6 for floor work and other such classes. The locker rooms are beautiful, with plenty of lockers with built-in locks, toiletries including Dyson hair dryers, showers, bathrooms and a sauna. I love how there are small lockers outside of the classrooms to conveniently store your phones, sunglasses, etc. without having to walk to the locker room. They have the largest weight room and cardio area I've ever seen. It's absolutely massive, and about half of the size of this large gym (which used to be occupied by Nordstrom). You get 90 minutes of free parking in the large adjacent #8 parking structure. Park on levels 1 or 2 and take the convenient walkway straight to the gym. There's free towels to use, too. I also love how you can book classes online, using their app. Give them a try if you are in the area. Absolutely worth every penny of the monthly membership fee.
