I wanted to learn something new and meet people, and after four months of salsa classes, it's been a tremendous experience. The studio itself is cozy, welcoming, and has a nice, spacious wooden dance floor that makes learning comfortable and fun. The instructors are highly skilled, great communicators, and genuinely fun to learn from. Every class is engaging and well-paced, and there's always a few good laughs! I've also met a lot of friendly and encouraging classmates, which has made the studio feel like a real community. It's a very comfortable environment. I really appreciate how the classes are structured. We start with a quick icebreaker, move into learning a routine (often with shines), and end with social dancing. Rotating partners throughout class is a huge plus as it gives you experience dancing with different styles and skill levels and helps you grow faster. Beyond classes, the studio hosts fun events like weekly Saturday social dancing, with styles rotating throughout the month (for example, salsa on the second Saturday). I also attended their Winter Gala earlier this month and was blown away by the performances. It truly felt like watching a live episode of Dancing with the Stars. But after the trial when we decided to join another ballet school, I kept getting an email about $20 fee. All other Ballet schools in the area offer a free trial class and to me it is a standard for a good Business. If I would have known there was a fee, I wouldn't even try. On their website there is an offer for Free boy trial class so it is totally not transparent. The business clearly doesn't disclose its business policies to its customers. Please on the watch out for their shady practices. Update So I saw a reply message from the owner explaining why there was a trial fee (which again wasn't communicated at all from the beginning via email).But what made me even more upset was when she/he stated "we saved your spot for months"...OMG that was totally incorrect!!! Luckily all my communications with them was via email so I had smt to go back to.

If you are considering a dance school, it is important to know that even children dancing in ASB's beginning levels are given top-notch instruction. Many of the teachers are current or former dancers from widely-respected professional companies. Children studying at Ayako School of Ballet have the opportunity to dance with professional guest dancers in annual full-length Nutcracker performances as well as in end-of-year events. Karen Kirk is the sweetest teacher. She is patient and kind and makes the class so fun for the girls. Even now, three years from retiring, I want to go back. Ballet gave me life, and it gave me something to look back upon, to say- "I accomplished this". Its fantastic exericse even if it looks so simple-- it really isn't. Karen is an awesome teacher. She's not any of those stereotypical ballet teachers- strict and all. She makes dancing fun and enjoyable for everyone of all ages. For the younger classes, older dancers demonstrate so the little ones can follow along. Older classes get to pull out the middle barre to see yourself better (in the mirror). Karen isn't too strict either, so she's not going to be one of those instructors you evny. In the summertime, Karen teaches a Variations class, where you can learn dances from Sleeping Beauty, Swan Lake, etc. In the wintertime, the Sugar Plum Fairy comes out to dance for the young ones, and signs their shoe! Karen also has several adult classes in the morning! Many dancers have tried various ballet schools around the area, and they find Karen's San Carlos School of Ballet to be one of the most friendly ballet schools in the Bay. Not to mention, Brooklyn Ballet School comes to recruit students every year for a summer ballet program. Great experience!

My daughter started in repertoire for two years, then Allegra, and now Brava. I could not be happier with her progress, not only as a musician, but as a young woman of character. She's had an opportunity to develop as a soloist, and to develop her range from soprano through alto and I appreciated how her current teacher, Mr Skaff, challenges her to push herself. She was getting quite comfortable singing melodies as a soprano, and now has to sing harmony parts as an alto which I can imagine is challenging if you are new to it. I love hearing about her class sessions and the things she learns. I feel so grateful to the chorus for hanging on through a tough three years now of COVID. Unfortunately, my daughter had to miss some time in chorus because as a nurse working in the hospital, COVID was the nightmare we prayed would never happen but did. I was overwhelmed and so was my family. I am so thankful to the director Karyn Silva for giving us a leave of absence during that time so I could be there for the patients and the staff in the midst of that crisis and not stress about pushing my daughter on zoom. I will be ever grateful for their compassion and support. They welcomed my daughter back with open arms and never hesitate to let me know if she needs to improve or work on something. The musicianship books that the students work on train them thoroughly to read and understand music. I am truly pleased about that as there is an audio component and books do get checked and reviewed regularly by staff. The other wonderful thing is that they do have a uniform exchange so you can keep on exchanging a uniform in a different size as your singer moves up in sizes. I must say I have greatly appreciated that especially in these tight economic conditions. All I've had to worry about is some tights and the occasional black dress shoes. That truly cuts costs down for me. it also makes me feel like we're doing something good for the environment because these clothes do get gently used for a very long time, not just discarded. If you're wondering whether this is the right place for your daughter, come attend the end of year concert. It is a wonderful time to see, and hear what the graduating girls are planning, what universities and careers they're moving on to pursue, and you will be able to envision your own daughter and see if this is where you want her to be. This is what I did, and I knew right then and there that is exactly what I wanted my daughter to look and how to comport herself. Every year I marvel at the lovely girls that move forward, whose voices and talents give me chills, how they keep themselves neatly groomed, respectful of the dress code, respectful of the audience and their choirmasters. There are many great things to say about Peninsula Girls Chorus. They cover a well rounded,…read moreinternational and uplifting repertoire of music, and have a decades-long history as a Peninsula institution. The program is very well run and all of the staff are highly competent and dedicated. They also do a great job teaching music theory. What is most special about PGC though is that it is a family for the girls over multiple years. Many of the girls literally grow up within the chorus. When I see the senior girls graduate every year, it is a true celebration of sisterhood. I would recommend the PGC to anyone looking for a supportive and fun community of vocal music for their child.

It's kind of a notch up from places that moms send their daughters to go trot around a studio and have fun. But this is definitely not a place anyone who wants to become accomplished in dancing would come to. My daughter has been here with this school for 3 years. We're staying, FOR THE TIME BEING, because I don't think she's going for anything more than just leisure dancing and getting a nice posture. However, as she is getting older, I am considering moving her to another school where there are better teachers. Before I talk about the bad, let me say that Vinny Jones and Ommi Pipit-Suksun are AWESOME. They are the only saving grace why I am still sending my daughter to this place. There's however one other teacher that is nice but it's a complete waste of time to be in her class. Unfortunately, we are "forced" to take her class. You see, up to a certain level, students must take at least 2 classes per week and so we are stuck with her class. Honestly, at least 5 moms that I have talked to and their daughters (the students) simply hated that class with her. We're simply there to fulfill the 2-class requirement so as to stay being matriculated in the school. This teacher, B.A., is too old and not physically able to dance anymore. So, all lessons are simply "verbal" instructions, without any demonstration of how a dance move should be. Plus, she plays favorites ... If this school cannot offer enough classes with good teachers and continues to force parents to have to take a certain minimum number of classes per week, we are going to have to find another school. We don't have that much money and time to throw away. Just salaried folks here.

I love this dance school and I have been an adult student for the last 4-5 years. I appreciate the…read moresystematic approach, structured and consistent curriculum, and caring teachers. As an adult I also work and parent, but hate when I have to miss a dance class. I really look forward to these classes and the community, including hanging out with the other adults before and after class. If I do have to miss, I appreciate that there is the opportunity to take a makeup class. If the teacher is sick, there is usually a substitute teacher. This "school" approach makes a huge difference compared to other dance schools where there is one main teacher and if she is sick or traveling, there are no classes. There is usually an annual performance opportunity in the school show, though it costs extra. The focus is on kids classes and developing them into Youth Company dancers and members, though there are enough beginner and intermediate adults and the teachers really care about helping us get better, breaking down the steps and drilling us with practice sessions. If you are toying with the idea of kathak classes, I recommend it!
