I like the Chicken Yiros and Chip Pack myself, but I don't get it very often for a variety of reasons. The colour scheme is red and white, right down to the staff's immaculate uniforms. The actual yiroses (?) can't be faulted. The classic lamb yiros is full of freshly roasted lamb, crunchy lettuce, succulent tomato and onion in a smooth garlic sauce. I can only assume the other varieties of yiros - chicken, combination etc - are just as good. The chips are superb too, golden and crunchy. There's no trace of tired old oil in this spic and span eatery. The standard offering, lamb yiros, is $9.40, with chips $11.40. Fair prices for such quality and clean surroundings. They do salads and desserts - baklava and katalfi - as well.

How do they get the grains so separate? It's a magic I will never know or master. My standard take away order is 1/2 a chicken on rice and a couple of bolani with extra chilli sauce. It will happily feed 2 people all for under $15. It's such a bargain. Their Mantoo- lamb dumplings in yoghurt sauce is really special and I usually get it when I dine it. They are very friendly people who run this place. I think they use to be on South Rd and maybe even have a larger shop further up Port Rd but I can't be sure on this fact. They also do catering. From here you watch the chef pour your bowl of goodies onto a large hotplate and stir-fry them with an oversized pair of chopsticks in a matter of seconds. As a Perth local, I am extremely jealous that Adelaide has an amazing Mongolian restaurant at their picking - as I am yet to find one over here! For those who are still mourning the death of Sizzler in Adelaide (just because it was 20 years ago…read moredoesn't mean I'm not), Kublai Khan is the next best buffet related thing. It's like stepping into a time warp back to the 80s, the wall is covered in those Chinese drawings your grandma used to have in her house and everything is burgundy coloured from chairs to tablecloth and carpet. I am the master of a good buffet but I was totally off my game here - getting too excited and filling up on bread, noodles and prawn crackers. My tip? Skip the banquet option and go straight for the buffet cabinet of meats and veg. Pick your meats (pork, chicken, lamb, beef) and then pile the veg on high. The most exciting part of the entire process comes next...the MYO Mongolian BBQ sauce station. I'm someone who manages to screw up making a simple balsamic dressing for a salad so I was slightly petrified when presented with 8 bowls of sauce to pour over my bowl of uncooked meat and veg. Don't worry though even Jessica Simpson couldn't screw this one up. Just go gung-ho on the garlic, ginger, cooking wine and soy sauce. But a word of warning...the chili sauce has a sliding scale of anything less than 1 spoon is pathetically mild and anything more than 1 spoon is ridiculously hot. Some little cutie in a chefs outfit stands behind a giant hotplate the entire night waiting for you to bring a bowl of raw meat and veg and then he cooks it up for you with giant chopsticks. You gotta see it to believe it.

A saving grace for Malaysians and Singaporeans away from home!…read more In the 17 years I've lived in Adelaide, the only way I could have REAL satay was to make it myself. Thankfully, there is now Papparich. Whilst many Malaysians and Singaporeans from states like NSW and Vic say that it's "not the best", I say, beggars can't be choosers and when you really have a hankering for proper roti and satay, this is it. 1) The menu is all authentic. It's not been diluted or modified to cater to the western palate like many Asian restaurants. 2) I can sit in there, close my eyes and the accents I hear, I am brought back to any eatery in Malaysia or Singapore, except that it's not hot and humid. 3) I haven't given it 5-stars because ... I wish there was the Nonya style of laksa and the Singapore-style of Char Kuay Teow. Every other dish, Singapore has a version of, and I'm quite happy with what is there. 4) The prices whilst not the prices one would get in Malaysia and Singapore, won't break your pocket either. For me, the must-try is the Satay. If you've never had Satay in Malaysia and Singapore, you have to try it here. You will never order "chicken satay" as an entree elsewhere again. So far, I have tried the Nasi Lemak. Though I would like for the rice to be more lemak, it's probably better for the waistline that it's not as fragrant with coconut as it should be. The Nasi Lemak comes with different types of meat but the condiments are all the same. I wish there was one with fried fish ... perhaps like a Tommy Ruff which is closest to the herring or mackerel that is included in most packed Nasi Lemaks you'd find on the street or in hawker centres. I usually order the Nasi Lemak with an extra serve of the Sambal Ikan Bilis as I prefer that. The steamed chicken with various styles of noodles is a great meal. I had the Dry Hor Fun (flat rice noodles served with a gravy and not in a soup). It comes with a good serve of blanched bean sprouts and the steamed Hainanese-style Chicken is clean and tender. Really, I think the chicken is poached. There is a dish on the menu that is Deep Fried Chicken Skin ... I want to try it ... but I'm thinking I might go into cholesterol-arrest! They do not take reservations and the minimum for EFTPOS is $20.

Greek food is a wonderful thing. It brings families and friends together. There is generally some sort of celebration in a Greek Restaurant. There is always a lot of laughter, hugs and noise Kefi is no exception. That is what I love about it, it feels like a cultural and loving experience. So, what does Kefi do so well? Three things: 1. Quality 2. Skill 3. Portion Size. Greek food is not complicated; they tend to bring out the best features in food. For example, my favourite dish at Kefi is the mixed souvlaki. Oh, even just thinking about it makes my mouth water. It is like a drug, I need a fix. The Souvlaki in chargrilled and marinated and seasoned so perfectly it is just heavenly. It tastes smoky, salty and a little acidic. There is a lot of skill in the preparation and cooking of this meat. The mixed is some pork, chicken and lamb skewer served with crispy potato wedges, tzatziki, pide bread and salad. I would just like to mention the pide bread. Usually served as an accompaniment. But at Kefi it stands out as a main part of the dish. It is fluffy, fresh and should be eaten with all items on your plate. The final thing to mention is the portion sizes. Now, if you are adventurous you could try a large size. But be prepared for a mountain of food and a coma to follow for a week. You get amazing value for money here. I think this is one of the another reason why people love it here. I always leave with a doggie bag and amazing lunch for the next day. Kefi, you have made true believer out of me.
