Conveniently located ever so close to my house, I always go here for pure Chinese takeaway, although they do have some competition now in the same building with Red Box which is coming up my favourites list. But the people who work here are lovely and know most regular customers by name and ask you how you are going. Their restaurant is very cute, quite old and alright for dining in, but I prefer to share and eat at home. There is a big fish tank to keep you amused while you wait, if you have to. And they always throw in a bunch of prawn crackers, yum!

Unfortunately the food we received definitely tasted like it was prepared in 10 minutes, almost as if it had been reheated and put in the containers. This place is worth driving a few suburbs for…read more It's no Greasy Joe's - the place is bright and immaculate as are the staff in their neat uniforms. The chips are way up on the chip quality scale and the seafood is as fresh as the salads. It's not a franchise, so there's no regulation two slices of tomato per burger etc. Quality control is by the pride of a well-run family owned business. The prices are reasonable too, especially considering the tasty freshness of the salad ingredients. I honestly can't think of a bad word to say about this place, except that it shuts a bit early - 8.30pm most days. Parking's a snip - straight out the front. It's sort of around the corner at the Gilles Plains shopping centre on North East Road.

The only times I have heard him use proper language is when I walk past the back of the store and hear him screaming at and abusing his staff. Keep in mind that most of his staff are minors because he is too cheap to hire senior staff.

The Athelstone Takeaway changed hands in the not too distant past, and the new owners have…read moredefinitely lifted the bar with the quality of their offering. Fish comes in beautiful crisp batter, and in generous servings, the chips are a perfect crisp golden brown, the chicken is plump and luscious, and the salads are all fresh and delicious - they have a stack of salads on offer, including a chicken ceasar pasta salad that makes a really lovely lunch. A little side case has a selection of greek desserts, not sure if they're made on the premises or brought in, but they ARE lovely little moments of heaven. There's a full range of everything you'd expect from a good take away - fish, chips, chicken, chiko rolls, spring rolls, crab sticks, burgers, hot dogs, yiros, and the most recent addition, fresh made banana fritters. These are to die for, and are done at a market price, so as the price of banana's has been dropping so has the price of the fritters. Worth the trip alone :) (while they're cooking, slip down to Woolies and grab a little tub of a premium vanilla ice cream and a caramel sauce to have with them... heaven on a plate)

Colonel Sams is definately the balls! they always have a minimum of 6 people working behind the counter on the grills and prep areas and the food is usually up lickedy split!
