I love the idea behind this website. It's a website where you can order from your favourite takeaway delivery restaurants and serves Edinburgh, Glasgow, South Lanarkshire and West Lothian.
It's a handy ideaespecially when you've (as I have) endured the odd horrendous conversation with somebody on the other end of the phone who, due to there being a language barrier of some kindisn't quite understanding what you're saying when you're trying to place your order, and you're not quite understanding them either. At times I've had to repeat my card number in excess of five times before I've managed to place and pay my order! So, being the online shopping addict as I amwhat better way to order your takeaway than online too? Yhum displays the restaurant's menu, allows you to make your selection, tallies up the total cost, takes your card details (or you can opt to pay in cash on delivery), then faxes your order to the restaurant.
There are a few difficulties with the system as it stands howeverYhum still has a limited database of restaurants who use their service, so it does restrict your options somewhat - especially if you're looking for a delivery restaurant within a limited postcode area. There's no option to 'log in' therefore every time you use the service you're required to type in your name, email address, postal address (and then credit card details if that's how you're opting to pay). Surely it would be easier if you could set up an account with a user name and avoid having to do this EVERY time? Finallywhen you're paying by card, Yhum may total up your order as being £14.80, so that's what you expect to pay. However when your order arrives and you're handed your receipt, you could have been charged an additional fee for delivery on top - finding that you've actually paid £15.80. I think that if the restaurant has a delivery charge policy, this should be incorporated in the overall cost so that the customer knows what they're paying for. Otherwise, I guess in theory, due to the disclaimer that the restaurant 'might' charge extra for delivery servicesthe restaurant is well within their rights to charge you whatever they want. Personally, I find this rather off-putting.
It's a great idea for a website and I think that with a little bit of work, it could be even better. read more
