We took advantage of a 1/2-day tour with Chase as our guide. It was wonderful, the best day of our visit to YNP. If I could, I would spend a whole day backpacking with these horses and guides. Very nice people and very brilliant tour. read more

I'm sure YMG is fine for day trips, but if doing a pack trip find another outfitter. Look for one that seems well organized and communicates promptly because that was seriously lacking with YMG. The three employees I interacted with were great but they can't compensate for bad management by the owner (Terry). Bad decisions on his part, poor communicatiin with both the clients and his guides, and cutting corners to reduce costs are what to expect. For instance showing up 2 hrs late at the start and then not showing up at all for the pickup after 7 days - the guides had to contact another employee and have them come (2.5 hrs later). He insisted the guides take a troublesome mule which caused all sorts of problems and had to be replaced and that caused a full day delay causing us to arrive at second camp site at 11:30pm and soaking wet from the storm we got caught in. Could have been avoided had Terry responded with a replacement mule promptly. Food - he packed 1 lb bacon for 4 people for 7 days and not sure why he asks about our food prefences when he didn't pack anything we requested. He packed elk meat he had in his freezer, pork shoulder (can you buy a cheaper cut of meat) instead of rib-eye steaks he sent what seemed to be sirloin, precooked turkey breast. In short he over promises and under delivers. At the end he never contacted us to apologize for all the mishaps nor did he respond to emails - but that seems typical. read more

Never again! Worst part of our week long vacation. Couldn't wait to get away from the guide. Never, ever, again.
