Andok’s - Fried chicken for a rainy day... good

My fiance saw it, recommended it, and we ran to keep from getting wet from the rain. We didn't have many choices in the immediate vicinity without getting drenched. It's mainly a fried chicken chain. You can order some other dishes here but they appear to very much be the fast food spin on those dishes. I saw Andok's all over the place in Angeles and Manila. I'm surprised that chicken chains are around because in the land of Jolibee... it has to be hard to compete. I saw that you could get a half chicken for around 200 php(4 usd). Sign me up! I'm used to eating half chickens in America that are 10+ dollars. This was one of the places I received some looks. It seemed to be all local Filipinos in here, Filipino tourists, and a couple of Korean families. I guess with ALL of the tasty restaurant options on the island, chicken Andok's is one of the last places you plan to see an American pigging out on chicken. lol. The chicken wasn't terrible but it was dry. It was cheap enough that I can't complain but it didn't leave an impression on me compared to other chicken dishes I had around the country. I doubt I'll go back to any of the Andok's but it did do its job of allowing us to eat while waiting for the rain to pass.

It costs about the same as Solid's Halo-Halo Special--PHP 75 ($1.50). McDonald's really needs to offer it in the States since the Boba craze is in full force there and McDonald's can capitalize on it. I'm not a juice or soda drinker, and since I'm on vacation, I don't mind indulging in something like this McFloat while I'm here in the Philippines. They also have a Wintermelon which I haven't tried. Just like other McDonalds we've been to abroad (France, Japan, India, Scandinavia, etc), the McDo in the Philippines tailors its menu to local tastes. You'll find Pandesal breakfast sandwiches, Silogs for breakfast, and Fried Chicken and Rice, Filipino Spaghetti here as well as typical McDonald's fare like Sausage Egg McMuffins, French Fries, Cheeseburgers and Chicken Nuggets. I've had their Cheeseburger and Fried Chicken. Their cheeseburger was okay. The Fried Chicken looks like Jollibee's, and it is a better choice here. Their French Fries tastes like they do in the States. This place can get super busy especially on weekends and holidays but they are super efficient. It's incredible to me how they can handle so many orders. They have air conditioning and have lots of seating upstairs. There's also a play area upstairs. We were so happy to see McDonald's open on the day after Typhoon Ursula hit us on Christmas Day. Their outdoor sign got destroyed by Ursula but they opened around noon nevertheless. Jollibee did not even open that day. We got some food from there and took advantage of their A/C since my parents' house lost power. Thanks McDo for being open so soon!

They do have fans that blast so there is some coolness on a hot day. I was thinking of the Piri Piri sauce from back home tangy and spicy but it was neither but still good sauce taste. As for the food we got, it was ok. My hubs and his bro had the combo. The pork belly was a little in the dry side. The grilled Chicken was pretty good. Seasoned rice with good. I also tried their Sisig appetizer as a meal but it was a little too oily but good flavors. It was a little on the salty side or that might be their food in the Philippines. We also tried their fried Piri Piri chicken wings. It was all soggy breading than chicken. There was barely any chicken or it was just a small chicken wings with barely any meat. I think the sauce is the only thing I liked. We had their shakes. The mango shake was a good size and taste but the lychee coconut was more lychee flavor than coconut shake. They use the syrup of the lychee cans. That was disappointing. Service was good. Place is clean. Average flavors though so not sure I would come back. [24R,2025]

The service was good which was quite a difference from most if not all of the other places we ate. They actually came and checked on us several time, brought more sauce, filled waters, checked for more drinks and that everything was good etc. Definitely a stop above other places. They also provided plenty of napkins. The price is a bit higher than other places, but still not bad at all if you are coming from the US. Definitely worth a try if you are not looking for a super cheap meal. Downsides, the beer was warm, not just not cold, but actually warm as in warmer than room temp! There was a bit of a wait to be seated, but that was b/c the place is popular and there is limited seating. It was worth it though.

It was just an easy walk from our resort in Astoria Station 1 through the beach to this place. Actually it was quite a nice walk there. When we arrived we were greeted with a nice smile by one of the staff and was offfered immediately a table with an amazing view of the beach. The restaurant is busy but it is clean and organized with a chill vibe. Our server offered us the menu which had so many interesting items to choose from and we elected for a few lattes and different types of entrees. We didn't wait long to be served our meals and they were all Made fresh and presented nicely. We were hungry so we didn't wait to dig in. I wouldn't say that their food wasn't new and interesting, but the execution and fulfillment of my expectations/imagination were issuing. We tried the bacon and mango grilled cheese which was highly recommended by most Redditors and noted on the restaurants menu. They use a bread similar to brioche and it was fluffy and a good option. The lack of excitement in the food itself came from the missing "wow" in the taste. The homemade mango jam was really subtle. The tomato sauce/paste/soup that was provided in the side bowl did not tie the meal together. I'm not sure how to describe it, but I wouldn't consider it soup since it was thick and the tomato flavour really overpowered the taste of everything else on the plate. The shrimp roll was ok - it wasn't bad but it's also not something to write home about. They offered calamansi juice without sugar which was refreshing after a long day in the sun. The staff were kind and they were prompt with our orders. The restaurant caters to a lot of tourists, which is possibly due to its location. There was indoor and outdoor seating and we chose to sit indoors.
