All the other firms said they would be able to win our case, but after listening to them we understood that they really didn't understand my husbands industry and what he was being charged with. A couple of firms would not even meet with us in person unless we agreed to retain them and pay a fee or they wanted to meet us at a bar. We were able to meet with Mr. Smith in person before retaining him and Mr. Jacobs and he spent over an hour listening to our concerns, explained the processes, and hurdles we would possibly face. At the end of the meeting Mr. Smith explained that they would take care of our case so we can go back and live our normal lives again. Overall we felt very well taken cared of, all of our questions were answered no matter how small, and even though it did take a long processes due to COVID closing the courts in the end Mr. Jacobs was able to have our case dismissed. We would recommend them to everyone who is ever in need of a criminal lawyer.

All I heard for two years from this group of lawyers was "not yet, still waiting", etc. After the date that the statue of limitations for the case had passed, I called Scott to verify that the state had failed to prosecute within the time frame allotted. It's a good thing I called, because apparently the case has been brought before the court and prosecution had been set in motion months prior to this and Scott and his team had no idea. After that surprise, this team of lawyers fumbled around and finally presented me with plea deal that they said was the best they could do if I wanted them to handle the case while I was in absentia. The only other option would be to fly back to Georgia from California to await trial. I reluctantly accepted the plea bargain which included Community Service, attending a class, and paying a fine. I submitted all proof of completion of my part of the bargain. Scott and his team took it to court and had it signed and sealed, and told me that the case was resolved. Fast forward to a few months after that. I get a call from Scott's office telling me they "made a mistake" when they told me the case was resolved. They messed up the paperwork and failed to include in the plea deal they presented me with that the court had requested I take another class. There was a probation officer waiting on paperwork as proof for completion of a class I was never informed I had to take, months after I was told the case was resolved and over with. I tried my best to find a class and complete it in what time remained before the probation officer put a bench warrant out for my arrest, but there simply was not enough time. If you want someone competent enough to handle your criminal case, do NOT choose Scott W Smith, "Peach State Lawyer". Not only is he kind of a dick to his clients, he is wildly irresponsible and forgetful and is just (barely, if at all) going through the motions for your money.

Megan Pettis was the associate "representing me" if you can call it that. Megan not only could…read morenever even try to relate to me on a personal level, but was flat out cold toward me through this very difficult process. Multiple times, she said one thing and then switched her stance as soon as the opposing counsel brought it up. She ARGUED against me, her client, in mediation alongside the mediator. We were in this custody battle because my ex-husband showed up to coach my sons baseball team drunk, got kicked off the coaching staff, got a DUI while trying to pick our son up at my house and tested off the charts for illegal narcotics. Somehow, he walked out of mediation with more parenting time and decision making over baseball. Megan Pettis did not advocate for me in the slightest during one part of this process including mediation. I felt completely bullied by her and the mediator and forced to agree to things I did not believe were best for my son (through tears and distress).

I spent hours coming up with a plan for three types of outcomes. I emailed them to my attorney at N&S with absolutely no response. I was totally blindsided during mediation with MY lawyer siding with my ex-wife's attorney! He actually took the Zoom call from his home, explaining that he was leaving for vacation after the call and could not show up in person. We got waxed by my ex-wife's attorney with Will and the mediator even putting pressure on me to give up way more than I needed to. I am thoroughly and completely disappointed with my representation from this firm who clearly "mailed it in". Do your homework. You can get good counsel for half of what this firm charges. Attorneys have a poor reputation for a reason. This one is well deserved.
