Guy outfitted me with a $1000+ suit for $550. They were having a sale, but still, I was impressed with the quality and the service.

This is the kind of place that should be in NoHo, or Battery Point, or the CBD even... but not down…read morein Uni Row! Maybe I'm biased as a NoHo regular, but schlepping down to Sandy Bay just for some GREY and FELT good times makes me a sad panda. Having said that, G&F is one of those beautifully curated shops that you want to photograph, and one where you kind of fear looking at the price tags. Having said that, I finally headed into G&F after finding out that they're Hobart's only stockist of Shanghai Suzy lipsticks, which are amazingly cheap for what they are, at only $12.95 a pop for a crazily pigmented nourishing lippie in exceptional on-trend colours. As it turns out, I also happened to first visit the week of G&F's first anniversary. No anniversary sale, so I managed to purchase my lipsticks and escape back out of there... mentally adding a few things to my wishlist as I went.

All I need is for someone to check in and ask if I need any help. If I'm browsing, I'll say I'm browsing, but often I go in with a specific objective and so yes, I do need some help, thank you! On my last venture in, I was saved by a wonderful girl--I think her name was Emily. I was close to throwing my hands up and walking out after being ignored for a couple of minutes while standing around looking very needy, but Emily stepped in and addressed my sandal-neediness. I spent way more on sandals than I intended to but I also found the perfect pair, so... great job. Phew.

I was on a sandal mission for the first time in a LONG time a couple of weeks ago and had fallen a bit in love with a pair while browsing Wittner's online store, so I headed into the CBD to try them on and try to talk myself out of buying them. Instead I ended up getting them put on hold for 24hrs and when I arrived back the next day to pick them up, there was a 25% discount promotion that had been applied to them (and a bunch of others in the store) overnight. The best kind of magic. The only trouble I have with this store is trying to stay away from it. Yeesh.

Despite the fact that I was a total bike newb and was…read moreafter a tragically trendy beach cruiser style, owner Mark spent upwards of an hour going through the brand's catalogue with me. He helped me to weigh up the pros and cons of a few different models, letting me know what sort of modifications Bike Ride could make to the different models, and showing endless patience as I hummed and hahhed. He didn't even bat an eyelid when I said I needed to sleep on it before making a final decision. Part of my sleeping on it involved googling online prices of the bikes in question, and I was pretty delighted to see that Bike Ride's prices were absolutely reasonable. Also, there was the fact that it only took them three business days to get the bike into store once I'd made my decision. And they put it together for me. And they attached the basket that Mark threw in for me. AND they even helped me out with a helmet, and helped me pick a colour for my bike chain. It keeps going. They're going to give me my first bike service for free, too. I'm happy to report that I'm absolutely over the moon with my new bike, and I'm totally stoked with the awesome service that I received from Mark and the guys at Bike Ride. This was where our tour group met for our "Welcome to Australia" Dinner. The 15 of us (including our guide) were comfortably seated along 2 tables. The menu offered a nice selection, and there were lots of Tasmanian wines to choose from. I can't really remembered what we ordered, but our choices were well portioned and delicious. As we were all having a nice time getting to know each other, the happy buzz around the table (and great service) enhanced our meal experience even more. In Australia, you pay at the register either at the time of ordering or after. Tipping is a little mysterious as it's not usually designated on the bill or with payment. What I really appreciated was their restaurant software that easily facilitated paying individual tabs. I thought our bill was a good value for the meal and service received.

There's also a Kmart Tyre and Auto around the back, if that kind of thing floats your boat. So, a stock standard shopping centre, complete with Christmas decorations displayed wayyy too early. With two levels of shopping, the arcade manages to encompass a good block of the CBD, linking Collins St, Murray St, Liverpool St and the Elizabeth mall through its belly. A number of the Cat & Fiddle shops will allow you to walk through from a shopfront on any of these streets to the arcade itself--being a newcomer to Hobart, more than once I've casually sauntered through an unassuming store to find myself in the middle with the fiddle. My favourite of the shiny new stores in the arcade is Tasmania's first T2 shop, on the corner of the shiniest and newest end of the arcade at Collins St. Tasmania's only JB Hi-Fi is downstairs (with another entry from Collins St, a few shopfronts down from T2). There's a huge Priceline (I think this is also accessible from Elizabeth Mall) and a Target (definitely has a second shopfront on Elizabeth Mall), jewellers and shoe shops and clothing and more. The cat & fiddle (which came first, the arcade's name or these guys...?) still remain on the wall, of course, so keep an eye out for them.
