From start to finish, Josh was professional and knowledgeable. He did an amazing job! However, I do wish he had informed me about the creakiness of my floors and provided some insight or recommendations on how to address it. Since I'm not knowledgeable in that area, a little extra guidance would have been helpful. But when brought to his attention, he did what was asked. After talking to YCS (Josh) and reading the reviews I selected YCS to do my job over another contractor. This was my decision and regretfully I have to live with the results. Below is my assessment of YCS flooring on my job: Pros - Josh from YCS Flooring is personable and confident in his abilities. After meeting him I felt comfortable making the choice to have him complete my job. - He is passionate about the work he does and sells himself very well. -- Seems to have an understanding of refinishing process as well as available products. Mentioned his training several times. - Of the 5 rooms completed there are a few areas that look nice. Cons Frequently late and changes meetings last minute. This continued throughout entire job. This created a great deal of stress for me, so I did try to find another contractor before signing contract but did not have any luck. I cannot explain why I overlooked the issue. Once job started, he showed up daily but not always at expected time. Poor communications. Better as time progressed but overall, he needs to improve customer communications a great deal, in my opinion. Had difficulty estimating when things would complete. Repeatedly missed communicated timeframes and never really understand why it was impact to me. Seeing issue, I have I wonder if this may have caused him to complete some things before they should have been (e.g. apply topcoat before stain was dry). He randomly mixed colors to get a floor color we liked. No measuring just pouring from the can. When we decided on color, he said it was 50-50 mix of two colors. My wife and I looked at each and wondered how he knew the ratio but figured he does this regularly. The ultimate color he mixed to complete the floor is not the same as what we agreed on. It is blatantly obvious and not even same color palette. He tried to say this is because he did not "water pop" the floor prior to applying the stain but I don't agree. His price was a little higher than other estimates. Some things he mentioned as why his price was a bit higher were later seen to be incorrect but I made my own choice so that is on me. Based on conversations he seemed like a nice guy and was pretty good at selling his service. Talks a lot about his training but I think he is more book smart on the process than actual application. My floors have many issues as listed below: * Floor has swirled scratches in many areas from a poor sanding job. * Areas he hand scraped are terrible and he did not fix the ripped-up floor prior to finishing. * There are some globs of top coat that left to dry as puddles. I pointed out and he just indicated that is normal. * Lots and lots many black spots are appearing all over the finished floor (I wish I could post pictures). One spot is 10 to 12 inches across. When discussed with him he said had no idea what was wrong and indicated fixing could make it worse. He said the floor was the issue even though there were no spots to start with. He was going to get with stain manufacturer, but we did not hear anything for 10+ days. I sent note to stain manufacturer with pictures (responded in 2 days) and they believe what we are seeing is a job that was not sanded correctly, and stain possibly did not dry completely or get deep into wood. After finishing with top coat the stain in floor bled up into the finish. Another flooring expert said it looks like contractor got water on floor after it was stained and sealed over the top. We got nothing but excuses form Josh. The worst was when he suggested we put rugs down all over to cover the spots, and we just laughed due to the number of spots we have. * He sealed in my flush mount floor vent covers. When I pointed it out, he acted like he had no idea I wanted covers to be removable as designed. He said it was simple fix to cut them out. After an hour working on one and no success he had to stop and leave them sealed in. Now one is slightly chewed up and all 5 can't be removed to clean in the future. My overall assessment is Josh has much more confidence in himself than the results show. He gives lots of excuses and plays the blame game when there ar eissues. He points at the floors and products used never accepting any responsibility, nor offering to correct problems. It was clear he just wanted to get out the door when job was done and he heard our concerns. He had no answers, and we and we quickly decided we could not trust him to do any more work. He has the understanding and some experience, but I think he needs more time before he is ready for larger complex jobs. Ultimately, I could never recommend YCS Flooring to friends or family. read more

We highly recommend YCS Custom Floors. The floor in our master bedroom was squeaky and creaky due to the builder's errors during construction. It turned out not to be a quick fix. With Josh's creative thinking and perseverance, he was able to address our issue and then replace the worn carpet with beautiful hickory wood floor. Josh was terrific to work with, communicative, and very respectful of our schedule and our home. His attention to detail was spectacular. In a photo below, you'll see the new floor being aligned perfectly with the existing floor in the hallway to ensure continuity and flow of the flooring throughout the house. Everything was covered and protected from the dust due to the construction with a spotless cleanup at the end. Definitely will work with this company again. read more

They left dark stain marks all over the baseboards that hopefully will come off with acetone. The quality of the work itself overall was decent except for the stains on the baseboards. If it weren't for those I would have given five stars read more

The luxury vinyl floor is amazing! Josh explained what he would do thoroughly on his first visit, showed us samples, explained about color variations on one we liked, helped us choose another that looks consistent from piece to piece, and the quality is superior to that offered by other companies. He was careful to level the floor from foyer to kitchen to living room. He said many times that he would not do anything less than perfectly, and it certainly is.
