This is the loveliest, friendliest shop!…read more I am a sucker for all types of handwork. I generally do cross-stitch and hardanger (plus some knitting and crochet) but have recently gone back to needlepoint, just for a change. This shop has everything I need for needlepoint, and then some! The selection of hand-painted canvases is mind-boggling. If you don't see what you want, they will find it for you. And the ladies who work here are the most helpful people you could ever wish for. Whether you are a newbie wanting to learn the art of needlepoint or an experienced stitcher, this is the place. Highly recommend!

Gifted Hands is a local chain store that has a few locations in the Pittsburgh area. This store…read moresells merchandise such as necklaces and bracelets, tumblers and glasses, wall signs and plaques, picture frames, hand soaps, hair clips, bags, cutting and charcuterie boards, babies' onesies, ornaments, greeting cards, etcetera. Much merchandise is handmade by artisans. I think that most products are geared toward women and that some products would be appreciated by men. I selected a wine bag, two bath products, and one greeting card. The prices of these products were low to moderate. The cashier correctly rang up my purchase, and she wished me a good day. I visited Tonidale Yarn & Needlecraft in November 2018 while I was doing my own yarn crawl through…read morePittsburgh. I really liked Tonidale. It was definitely in the top two shops of the six I visited. When I was there, the owner's husband was filling in for the day for his wife. He was super kind and friendly. Talking to other yarn shop owners in the area, they all had nothing bad to say about Tonidale's owner and had said they wished I had met her since she is just as kind as her husband. The shop has a good mix of inexpensive and expensive yarn. That's rare to see in yarn shops. I think it gives the shop a wider range of customers, those who want the expensive, fancy yarn and those who are looking for something more simple. They have a very good mix of fibers to choose from. I remember seeing acrylic and acrylic blends, wool and wool blends, and angora rabbit (which was surprising), among others. I thought their prices were very fair for the yarn being offered. This will definitely be a shop I return to the next time I'm in Pittsburgh.

I've watched them assist people who are new to the hobby and have alot of questions on many occasions (some days I sit there for a few hours and bead!) and they're very willing to share their love and knowledge of the hobby. You can do some work there at one of the tables they have set up, and they have a beading "bee" one Thursday night a month, where they will help you with a project or you can just bead and chat. If you go to their website (www.beadithere.com) you can view a listing of upcoming classes. They also do beading birthday parties for kids, and, judging from the laughter and noise, I'd say these are a big hit.
