Nice little waterfall. Part of it is still under construction and there was also a wedding going on when I was there so I couldn't fully explore but what I did offered some nice views and tranquility. Was tempted to follow the tracks to see where/what else I could see but didn't have it in me this day. read more

Looking for a little extra nature time? Then take a visit to Yantic Falls. To really appreciate this area you will need to be adventurous and go off the pavement, but worth it. We were told the train only runs at night so walked Dow the tracks and over the bridge. read more

Yantic Falls Indian Leap I came across these four intriguing words while researching historical markers in Connecticut. What on earth do they mean? Well, legend has it that on September 17, 1643, a huge rumble was about to take place right here between the Mohegan and Narragansett tribes. The Mohegan Chief Uncas offered to battle the Narragansett Chief Miantonomo one-on-one. When Miantonomp refused, Uncas dropped to the ground as a pre-arranged signal to his warriors to fire a hail of arrows into the enemy. The tribes charged each other and all hell broke loose. Some of the fleeing Narragansetts tried leaping across a gigantic gorge to safety. Some of them were more successful than others... Dozens plunged to their death on the rocks below. Indian Leap, also known as Yantic Falls is a gorgeous waterfall. The scenery is beautiful, everywhere you look. There is a parking lot where you can leave your car and walk up to the rocks and the rushing water as it cascades down the falls. It is quite awesome. And on Yantic Street you'll see a CT Historical Commission marker describing the legend of the Yantic Falls Indian Leap. The falls are gorgeous and the spectacular legend of the Indian Leap easily make this a 5 star stop for you to enjoy when in the Norwich area. read more

Beautiful waterfall! To be honest, wasn't expecting much mainly because I haven't done much hiking and exploring in Connecticut. The waterfall is pretty large, there are trails surrounding the waterfall as well. You could easily bring a book or journal and hang out for a while! read more

Yantic Falls - Waterfall - Landmarks & Historical Buildings Near Me - Norwich, Connecticut

Was staying the weekend at Mohegan Sun and was looking for something to get away from the casino's sensory overload. Found this gem that is only a 10 minute drive from the casino. Do not put "Yantic Falls" into your GPS, most likely you'll be routed to a residential street (Monroe?) on the other side of the Falls with no parking. Type in "210 Yantic Street" and you'll find a little parking area. We went first thing in the morning - 6:30am - and it was perfect. Outside of a gentleman sitting on the hood of his car sipping Dunkin Donuts coffee, we had the entire place to ourselves. Walk right up to the edge of the falls and take in the relaxing sounds of the falling water. If you're a little adventurous, walk back to the parking area and hike down about 40 feet to stand/sit on the rocks and get a straight-on view of the falls. Don't forget to walk up to the footbridge! Read the placard containing the history of the falls (I won't spoil it for you here) and walk across the bridge for a higher, aerial view. Also, check out the railroad bridge (not sure if it's an active railroad) for some artsy fartsy photos. Overall, we spent about 30-45 minutes here and it was a wonderful, peaceful break from our stay at the casino. read more

I can't believe this place exists in CT. I've been visiting waterfalls around Connecticut and I was in love with Wadsworth Falls (still am), but this has got to be the most amazing, breathtaking experience in CT I've had. When you are actually at the falls and think about the story that surrounds them, it makes it an even more amazing experience. This is definitely a must see for nature lovers and Connecticut residents! So glad I got to see it this summer! read more

Started out with one of the local residents telling me where parked is a residents house. Which is weird because google maps leads you directly to 50 Monroe dr. And it looks like the parking lot for the falls. Anyways I got guided to go to the other side. "210 yantic st." Kinda hard to find. Anyways took a tinder date here for a picnic. Really gorgeous waterfall. There's a tiny grass field to set down blankets and watch the falls. read more

i went here today, to have a look. its was absolutely beautiful. it was very peaceful. legend has it that two indian tribes fought here one tribe was loosing. rather then surrender they tried to jump across the water fall. they weren't successful. i asked my dad, after the first two guys tried to jump across, and they didnt meet with success. why did the rest follow. my dad thinks the stories made up. i must agree. but its a good story. and this is certainly a beautiful waterfall. read more

What can be bad about a water fall. Nice falls, easy access to look. Nice paths. Pretty clean. Yeah.

This place is absolutely stunning. It was a great find on the outskirts of the city. The waterfall made a rainbow while we were there and I could have stood there and watched this beautiful site all day. So relaxing and a true natural work of art :) read more
