Rio Vista severely misdiagnosed and mistreated myself and other patients who shared similar horror…read morestory experiences. It took 2 years to finally get the right help I needed at EPBH. Rio Vista was claiming I was there for absurd reasons that had nothing to do with why I was seeking help. I was completely stable and seeking out-patient treatment, as were many former patients who finally got the right help they needed elsewhere. We were not listened to, family was ignored, and explanations were not provided when asking about medications we were forced to take. Care was not individualized and privacy was violated time and time again. They have paid millions in damages to patients and false PR rep. as of Feb. 2026. Former patients leave with less humanity, attempted suicide, and have been abused within the system. Members of their teams have also been reported to medical and federal entities. Go elsewhere and do your research. There are options in the region that can safely be called a hospital. There you will meet ethical, highly trained medical professionals who take your care to heart.

Therapy is a worksheet and no real therapy takes place. Patients are locked out of their rooms when they are sleep deprived and desperately need sleep. There are reports of the facility playing horror movies, when patients are depressed, suicidal, or experiencing a mental crisis from friends and family members in the community. Never take a family member in there that is on the spectrum, because they don't understand what on the spectrum means. To them on the spectrum means mental disorder. They will try to push every single type of drug onto your loved one, without crosschecking to see complications. Medical power of attorney attorneys and guardianships are ignored. You have to beg and plead to get information for your loved one. They will record conversations, but will not allow you to record a conversation. They will not return phone calls, emails, or any kind of correspondence legally required of them by law. Emergency detention orders are concocted on voluntary patients when patients realize that they can walk out because they are voluntary. Items left with patients are sometimes given two or three days later or completely lost. Basic items, such as toiletries and scrubs are not given to patients. It's a wonder how these places can be trusted! How do you build trust when the whole community knows how badly they treat their patients? If your loved one is experiencing depression or anxiety, try seeking help holistically and from a private physician first.

I have worked in healthcare for 20 years and this guy isn't what right looks like. I have seen cleaner clinics in Afghanistan. The clinic is filthy. It has furniture from the late 90s. There are stains...on the carpet, the walls and the furniture to just mention a few... At one visit, I asked for a tissue, I was passed a tissue box with a bathroom paper towel in it. How cheap can you be? It started off with waiting a month for an appointment. The initial intake was started by a rather rude staff member which were more concerned with billing than anything else. Each visit was not started by a greeting....it was started by...has your billing information changed? If you would like treatment i.e. meds you will need to do the following: Counseling by his in facility social worker. (Non-negotiable and not just one time.) Labs (not hard any lab would do) EKG...done by his staff on the west side...and they only do these one day a month. (Non-negotiable, it doesn't matter if you are Cardiologist, no substitutes).
