Yama Tatto Studio, Rome; Silvia Akuma, artist. It healed very quickly; the work was done JUN 8 in Rome, and this is from JUN 19 in Florence.
Mack S.

I began searching/researching tattoo parlors in Rome online somewhere around a month ahead of my journey there. Yelp was able to provide me with locations, but very few reviews (Yelp is used less by Europeans in Europe), so, using the studio name, I turned to Facebook to look at the craftsmanship of various artists and the "vibe" of the various studios. Yama Tattoo, and the creative and detailed work of Silvia Akuma, rose quickly to the top for a variety of reasons. I opened up a channel of communication with them through Facebook (their studio page is easily found), and explained (in English) what I was looking for, the timing, and my interest in a particular artist. A date and time was planned around my schedule, and everything was set. On the appointed day and time, I arrived and progressed quickly through the artwork stage, which consisted of a phrase done Silvia's own beautiful handwriting style (the tattoo, being uncomplicated, was made more graceful in that way, in my opinion, and worked much better, and more uniquely, than picking a font from a book of letter-types). The front of the studio contains tattooing curios from around the world and provides many interesting things to examine while proceeding through the artwork phase, and the back of the studio, where the magic really happens, is very clean and well-lit, as you would expect from any reputable studio in any part of the world. Silvia was very kind and conscientious through the process, and her English is very much better than my Italian. Should I return to Rome and once more wish to be inked, I would choose her to be my artist again; she's that good. If you're interested in being tattooed while in Rome, I encourage you to follow-up on your review-reading by seeking out studio and artist pages on other platforms (tattoos being very personal, after all), but if Yelp is your only resource, know that you can't go wrong with Yama Tattoo Studio.

My sisters tattoo.

Facebook messaged Yama a day before we went in for the tattoos, they got back to me immediately and were able to get my sister and I in the next morning. I told Silvia I wanted a skull with wings, and weirdly enough she pulled up a picture of the EXACT sculpture I had taken a photo of in a basilica in Rome. Her drawing was perfect and the tattoo came out better than I could have ever imagined. Silvia is a MASTER of her craft. We had a nice chat too, her English is really good! I tried to speak some Italian to her and she helped me with my pronunciation. Everyone at the shop was so nice and the shop was really clean. The woman that did my sisters tattoo was so sweet too, and did a beautiful job. If you are in Rome visit Silvia for some really beautiful artwork.

This shop is fascinating the crew are awesome. While in Rome I decided to get inked .I was staying across from the shop and was drawn there like a magnet. It's like stepping into another world that only few can relate too .it's interior design leads s you to enter in to a whole different world where your mind can travel far and beyond .once you step into the shop and the door closes behind you are away from the outside living , your inner self is awaken and greeted by the others with much dignity and patience and most of all respect. I felt very welcomed and part of the seen I greatly related . And I bring home to Las Vegas a part of what I now call friends thanks for the memorable experience of welcoming me to your world

My boyfriend and I stopped in on the second to last day of our trip to Rome. We messaged the Facebook site very last minute and Silvia managed to squeeze us in an afternoon slot! The shop is very clean, with interesting decorations to look at while you wait. We both were getting our first tattoo and Silvia made us feel very comfortable! The prices are reasonable for the product you get. We are so happy with our new art and can't wait to come back!

Staff is professional and engaging all spoke English A bit on the pricey side but I admit this was my second tattoo so not a lot of experience in the tat world! Well worth it to me thank you! And the vibe was very hipster

We had just finished up a coliseum tour and my daughter wanted to see about getting a tattoo, at…read morethis establishment. She knew this place allowed walk-ins. We walked in and were greeted by two ladies at a reception desk. This place gives more art gallery than tattoo parlor. Gone are the cheesy heats with daggers and mom tattoos, on the walls, replaced with original paintings. We knew what we both wanted, the two ladies were really helpful. They were full this particular day but they were able to scheduled appointments for us at 11:30, the next day. $50 deposit, industry standard, was required to book the appointment. They do give you an estimate of time price for each tattoo. Saturday morning we show up, I meet with the tattoo artist, Giorgia. I just wanted a simple green, grape leaf tattoo. I had a picture of the leaf. She goes in back, to work on the piece. We talk about maybe doing more of a fall color for the leaf, From green to yellow and green edges of the leaf to a reddish tinge. The Giorgia asked to use color for the stem instead of black ink. I agree, she's the artist in the canvas. We start and this is my 11th tattoo, I've never seen anyone work like this. It was more like a painting than a tattoo. She layered color and shaded colors. Then end result is stunning. I couldn't be more happy. So glad we came here.

!!BRING CASH PAYMENT THEY WILL NOT TAKE CARD!!…read more This place was an experience I can barely put into words. We messaged them through Yelp and got an appointment for the same day (I have a feeling they do a lot of spontaneous tourist appointments). The girl at the front desk was working on her own tattoo designs and ushered us into a comfortable and well-decorated waiting room. They have an €80 minimum and I got my first tattoo (approximately 3" across) for €100 (way cheaper than back in the States!) plus tip (which I know isn't as much of a thing here but seemed appropriate considering the circumstances) and a more experienced friend of mine got hers (5"?) with shading for €130. The shop was clean and hundreds of designs were displayed on the walls. If you aren't getting tattooed they ask that you stay in the front area but will allow one guest for the person getting a tattoo. But the artist- MATTEL- was just fantastic. He was professional but also acted as a friend- he spoke less English than the girl at the counter but was so helpful and reassuring and held excellent conversation. They were absolutely blasting some classic rock in the back which was appreciated and a good distraction to be honest. They sell the tattoo soap and cream in the store for a little extra and included some fun stickers. However, THEY ONLY ACCEPT PAYMENT IN CASH!!! Bring it ahead of time or the girl at the front will walk with you to the nearest ATM to watch you withdraw it. Overall an irreplaceable experience- I'm very pleased.

Before a trip to Rome that was going to fall on me and my wife's 18th anniversary, I had the idea…read moreof the two of us getting tattoos to mark the occasion. I'm pretty extensively covered in tattoos, and my wife has a few, so I kind of know what I wanted to get out of the experience. I don't want to deal with "too cool for you" shop vibes or shady shops that keep uncertain hours since we would be working with a limited time frame. After doing some searches, I stumbled upon Area Industriale and started a chat via Instagram DM with the owner, who was enthusiastic about our visit and reasoning for the pieces and their less than original design (we wanted the simple Roman numerals XVIII to recognize the 18 years) and had us booked and ready to go. The day of our appointment, we took a wonderful 30 minute walk out of the city center and through the local neighborhoods to the shop, which we found to be an awesome little space that was very well-lit and inviting. It felt more like an artist hangout or gallery than traditional tattoo shop. We were introduced to Norberto who would be doing the work, and he got busy setting up. I watched him do all the proper prep work I'm used to seeing in the states and he was very professional and had my two small pieces done in no time. Next was my wife, which was just as quick and pleasant. After settling our bill (which was very reasonable) they called us a cab and we rode away with our permanent reminders of our trip to Rome. My only regret was not having time to get a more extensive piece done. Overall it was a fantastic experience and I can't recommend Area Industriale enough.
