We had the pleasure of going to our first show this past weekend, which was the closing weekend for Small Mouth Sounds. I really liked how unpretentious this theater is, with the super high-quality acting and minimal fanfare. The show we saw was in stage two, which made the experience even more intimate. I appreciated the concession stand at the entrance. Drinks are allowed inside. On this night, the crowd tended to be on the older side. No problem with that, but it was noticeable. If you're being somewhat spontaneous, definitely go for the standby tickets. Even on this closing weekend, we found out about an hour after getting on the standby list that we had scored two tickets for the same evening. And the tickets that were given up happened to be second row, which was lucky and awesome. I am definitely excited to come back for more shows.

There were other beginners in a class of about 10 so that immediately made it less intimidating. Classes are $20 each and they have an unlimited option for between $100 & $115 per month. The salsa taught here is not ballroom, it's for salsa club dancing and it's taught on 2, as opposed to 1 for those who are familiar with dance terminology. There are beginner classes on Tuesday and Wednesday evenings at 7 and 12 pm on Saturdays. I am told that one night they even go to a salsa club to test out moves. Overall it was a very warm and inviting experience. After teaching you the steps on your own they even conduct part of the class paired up which makes things interesting. If you're looking to learn how to dance salsa for fun or a different way to get some exercise and are in or close to the New Haven area, I would highly recommend checking out Rumberos.

The instructors are a lot of fun; they creatively teach the subtle technicalities that make a big difference. I've witnessed beginners transform to great salsa dancers from coming here. After classes, the best way to improve is to get out on the dance floor! The salsa scene in New Haven is great with a diverse crowd, not to mention friendly and smiling faces. Here's the schedule: Wed-Wicked Wolf Thurs-Pulse Lounge Fri-Pacifico Sun-Geronimos It would be great if Rumberos taught more styles of dance, like hip hop or bhangra. They may offer belly dancing as well, but I have not tried that yet! Salsa is so fun you may get hooked. Watch out for the paparazzi! :P

Unless you've been living under a rock, you probably already know that Yale Repertory is a world-class theater in downtown New Haven. They have multiple productions each year and bring in world-class acts. I've found my brief interactions with people who work here very straightforward but also warm. They really make you feel welcomed here! The two shows I've seen were very thought provoking. Father Comes Home in March 2018 was truly epic and moving. The Prisoner in November 2018 was not as enthralling to me, but it was unique. On our most recent visit, we learned we could not bring in bottles into the theater after it had already been opened. No big deal because we had time to drink it quickly, but keep that in mind.

The tickets really are a steal, and I've enjoyed every show (I think that's Tartuffe, A Woman of No Importance, and Happy Now?). Seats are comfortable, and the shows start and end on time, which is...I don't know why I'm impressed by this, but I am. All in all a great way to spend an evening. Just a note, though - if you want coffee at intermission, run. You can pee later while everyone else in the building is waiting in line for coffee.

I witnessed them being cruel and impatient and they should not be working with children. It was a traumatic experience for my child and I hope my review helps another family avoid what we went through. It sounds like the instructor is confusing my child with another child but it is not surprising to me that there is more than one child who has had a horrible experience there. To clarify I fully witnessed the instructors yelling and witnessed them insulting my child while my child was in the room. **** Editing to add to respond to directors agressive response that he know who we are with the implication he will come after us: it sounds alot like you are attempting to threaten me to take down my truthrul review. I absolutely witnessed two instructors yelling at my child at pickup and personally experienced one instructor yelling at me dispite zero rise in volume on my part. The directors response to my truthful message as seen here is further evidence of how agressive this program is. We arrived on a Monday around peak dinner time, but there was essentially no wait (apparently uncommon according to my friend -- just a delightful consequence of dining at a college town during the summer). We split a medium pizza (1/2 elote mexican street corn and 1/2 bbq brisket), proving to be more than enough for two plus a more than ample amount of leftovers. Recently, I've gravitated toward thinner pizzas, a far cry from the typical Detroit (foccacia-esque) style pizzas I used to prefer, and BAR's pizza is akin to a flatbread yet very thin, another fallen angel to the GLP's. The undercarriage boasts a brilliant crust, almost cracker-like. However, it should be noted that the pizza is indulgent all the same. The elote pizza is quite possibly the most memorable, unique pizza I've ever had; it arrives almost crimson-red with a generous layer of corn and takis atop. It's still incredibly well balanced despite the hodgepodge of varied toppings. It's hard to pick a favorite between this and the bbq brisket though; while one is incredibly unique the other is simply sumptuous, nothing pedestrian about either of the two. The service is also impeccable, almost rivaling that of southern hospitality. I always thought Californians were friendly but something is in the air every time I visit New Haven. Incredible!
