My mother n law had a brief stay in the ICU before she passed on 3/15. The whole time our family was there, the staff, and I mean all of them, were so kind, and accommodating. It didn't matter how many people were there at a time, whatever we needed, they provided. Wether it be a chair to sleep in, blankets, and this hospital in my eyes does NOT deserve the 2.5 rating it has. I would take my family here anytime with confidence, they made our transition a much more smoother one. Thank you to all the staff that helped in any way for patient in room 381. The formally known as Virginia Mason memorial hospital has had a rough go and rumored to have a reputation for not being good care and poor sanitation practices. But in my stay here in the last four days I have seen the staff and practices heading to overcome the challenges laid before them. Now called multi care memorial hospital I see if the trend continues to hear the patients and take real interest in their patients that they are heading in a good direction. The hospital is seeking to update the facility through remodeling but the old building has limited space. Perhaps funding one day will provide an extra wing to this hospital. I say the staff and nurses and aides treat the worst of the patients with total respect maybe one or two nurses have been misguided or burnt out but those few should not dim the smiles and professionalism of the many. Praying that they know and pride themselves that they know of the ones Who made my stay more comfortable and pleasant i give them the reason for the successes so they can take a bow. read more

I got a call yesterday from a social worker regarding my mom who's a patient there She was incredibly rude and was asking me how much money my mom has and telling me that the care she would need is 8k a week. It was absurd and unprofessional She was belittling me over finances and being very nosy and telling me basically that I can't afford treatment for my mom and being extremely rude about it. I hope they don't have her call me again, if they do I'll remember her name and complaine directly to the hospital. The reason I haven't is because I didn't catch her name when she called. I have had to deal with Memorial Hospital (multicare) twice in 2.5-3 yrs apart for the care of 2 family members. Both times have been a HORRENDOUS scary experience. One was diagnosed with cancer incorrectly and treated with a VERY dismissive method of care that would make any family member very angry. And when you complain your concerns are dismissed. There is not even close to enough nursing staff to handle the patient load, the doctors are spread so thin its impossible to get one on the phone to get an up date. Even when you're physically at the hospital trying to get an up to dated status is like moving a mountain and often the information you get is not up to date which leads to even more confusion and anger. Currently my elderly father is there and just trying to get a phone put in his room, with the ringer actually turned on and the volume turned up so he can hear me when I call took two days. And I had to follow up continually to get it done. It was never a matter of making a request and it gets completed, you have to stay on the staff, calling multiple times to get anything accomplished. The meals have to be ordered online which for my elderly father, well just about any elderly person, is a completely frustrating if not impossible task. He had no clue how to navigate the "system" and if a family member is not there to help them order their food they get "what ever". Every interaction for the daily care status for testing that needs to be done was a nightmare. The nursing staff couldn't give updates on what had been done or what was supposed to be schedule to be done, and went thru this on a daily basis. Every interaction from trying to get medical status updates to the simpler things like getting a phone in the room because someone doesn't have cell phone, or getting a bedside tray to put the food one, or ordering meals for the day became impossibly frustrating tasks. No one ever knows what the HECK is going on!!! I am literally SCARED, terrified that my family member is in this hospital. My last experience with another family member was the same type of awful experience and it would appear this is the "STANDARD" of care this hospital operates on. No patient or family member should ever be frightened when it comes to healthcare. I am confident this review will be disregarded and ignored. This hospital will not hire more nurses/workers and doctors to meet the need of the patients or make other changes to improve. If I can have the same awful experience 2.5-3 years apart, and see the same patterns of severe lack of care with both, I honesty believe NO ONE in charge of the place or the city officials who should be stepping in to take their share of the responsibility cares at all if this so called "healthcare" facility actually helps people. more people need to report them to for violating federal EMTALA act laws. read more

Been going to this er for 20 years and it has never gotten better. They left my friend who got stabbed 9 times alone and covered in his own blood for over a week and then sent him home with an infection in his stab wounds. They have left me in a room after missing the vein over and over when I looked over there was blood all on the side of the bed and then they decide to take more blood from me and inject my 90 pound body with not 1 not 2 but 3 things of morphine. And then left me in that room from 10pm until 2am all by myself while my machine was going off over and over again letting them know I wasn't breathing right and my heart beat wasn't right. It has honestly been just thing after thing with this hospital. It's not clean. The employees are disrespectful and suck at their jobs. And now we've adding incident number 1334 to the list. My grandma broke her hip and is going into surgery and not only are the people in the room back there yelling and stressing out my grandma even more but they are not letting her see her family at all and are being extremely disrespectful. And there's a girl in there going around yelling at all the people including the people who are getting worked on. I have never in my entire life seen my grandma more scared and uneasy the waiting room for surgery should not be like that and there's nurses should NOT be yelling at my grandma and yelling at us that we need to hurry up and that she's not going to switch us off so that everyone can see my grandma and yelling at us over everything when you should just be doing your job and taking care of the patients instead of stressing them over and right before surgery. My husband underwent emergency surgery and was kept for 2 weeks with minimal information. The patient in the next bed had throngs of visitors every day, all day and as late as 10 PM!!! They spoke and laughed loudly, and brought strong smelling food in. It took several phone calls to finally get my husband moved to a quiet room where he could actually rest, sleep and rehabilitate. This review is for the Emergency Department. My dad had to come to the ER here while visiting family in Yakima. Honestly this ER is by far the worst ever. My father who is elderly had to wait over 4 hours to be seen to severe groin/abdominal pain and people who checked in long after were called in first. I have asked the front receptionist, they said he was gonna be called soon but yet waiting still took a long time. Another relative who was with me had talked to a security guard and all he said was that condolences is all he can give which is really messed up. All this waiting to learn that he just needed a stronger medication for the pain which could have been taken care of in less than 1 hour. I spent 3 nights at Yakima Memorial in December 2023. The ER was a mess with people on gurney in hallways. It took nearly 30 hours before they took me to a room after I prepared to leave. The room was dirty with dried blood spots on the floor and dead bugs in the light above my bed and in the light in the shower. Kidney stones have no respect for the weekend, at least mine didn't and awakened me at 4am Saturday. After being unable to find any relief at home and not really knowing the cause I headed in to Memorial and arrived about 7:30am. I know that experiences will vary, but longer story short, I was out of the Emergency Department, pain free, with a diagnosis in less than 3 hours! Why not 5 stars? Lakeview's Dr. Michael Sean Mullin treated me with utmost disrespect and humiliation a few years ago by disregarding my level of pain. He lacked compassion and concern. I left his office in awe and dismay, crying in the parking lot. I subsequently sought resolve by 3years of testing at Swedish Neurology in Seattle where I was diagnosed with debilitating cervical myelopathy. As a result of Mullin's disregard and neglect, I find it difficult to trust my doctors because his incompetence caused me to unnecessarily endure excruciating pain and psychological distress. This hospital is a joke. Their staff consistently drops the ball. My child came into emergency. Everytime we spoke with a staff member they were clueless about what anyone else was doing or said. Nobody knows what anyone else is doing. And when they do say they are going to do something, like bring in a medical item, they don't really do it. My poor kid had to use the bathroom and it took 4 staff requests to just get him a urine cup. Sadly, this is the only hospital here!!! The nurses have a listening problem. I've delivered two babies there, and despite repeating throughout both pregnancies and the entire time in the hospitals that I wanted no male providers, I was subjected to a parade of random men during my vulnerable times. Several males examined me upon admittance with my daughter, although one nurse prevented one of the male providers who was observing my examination against my wishes from eagerly examining my cervix right after her, because it would have caused me discomfort. Then a male ultrasound tech imaged her head while she was engaged in my cervix, and the random female doctor that caught her because my CWFM dr was unavailable had a male med student standing right over her shoulder during my delivery. The nurse attending to me during my sons delivery told me when I was going to dilate and deliver rather than listen to me begging her to call my doctor, so some random male that I'd never seen before and will probably never see again delivered my son against my wishes 3 minutes before my doctor showed up. Both times I had to beg and justify my need for delivery IV pain meds, and when I had my daughter, they even wanted justification for each dose of Tylenol after I shoved out a whole human. I know their job is hard but it would probably help if the patients weren't constantly forced to accept treatment they're not on board with. Memorial is a hospital in Yakima, Washington. For decades, it's been called Yakima Valley Memorial Hospital. Recently, the hospital has joined a much larger network in Seattle which the took on a different name. In an era of complexed medical billing, reimbursement, and lack of government funding that existed in the past, a change was necessary. A name change to be exact. Virginia Mason's Memorial Hospital, still serves the community in the same capacity they've as they always have. I've had the opportunity to be part of the patient care providing team and on the receiving end. We've had the opportunity to have two children birth in Labor and Delivery and see the specialist for the children. The nursing staff, doctors, nutrition staff, and hospitality providers were very knowledgeable and skilled in their respectable departments. The cafeteria at the hospital is an experience all on its own. There is a variety of treats both frozen and pastry, a full salad bar, soup bar, a grill with short order items, and much more. There are two hospitals in Yakima, not are similar and very different. Each have their needed purpose and serve the community to the fullest possible way they can. read more

It's a hospital, so it's probably a less than optimal scenario if you are visiting.....bit memorial is definitely the best hospital in town. Aside from the fairly sterile hallways and rooms (expected in a hospital), the setting is a nice as it can be. The staff is great and people appear to genuinely like to work here. If you are here visiting someone, you may want to make sure that there aren't already a lot of people in the room that you're headed to. There's a check-in desk and they cap the number of visitors in each room. When I was here la the room I was headed to was capped at two visitors. If you need to get something to eat they have a fantastic cafeteria (by hospital standards). The salad bar is a pay by weight option, while the other dishes are typically set in price for the day. Prices are very reasonable! I've never had anything here that was bad, and I've eaten here quite a few times. Haven't personally had any work done here at the hospital, but I do understand that the billing department leaves something to be desired......but that unfortunately seems to be the norm with health care anymore. If you're in an ambulance and they give you an option of hospitals - make it Memorial, you won't regret it! read more

My mom went to the ER, she couldn't walk so she had to use a wheel chair and they made her wheel herself to the bathroom. She was in so much pain and the nurses laughed. They didn't even give her a warm blanket and she had to wait 3 hours when the registration woman came in and nicely gave her a blanket. My mom's room door was open and she heard the nurses stating they don't care about her. I had to take my wife here for some pregnancy related issues. She was in pain and had a fever. We waited in the ER waiting room for an hour or two, which is understandable during flu season. The intake person asked how far along my wife was and my wife said 3 months. The intake nurse said she wrote down 9 weeks (Math is hard) which moved us down in the priority list so it took longer for us to see a doctor. Once we got to see a doctor he was obviously very busy. He was nice but seemed more interested in interacting with his intern/resident (weird kid with laptop) than us. We sat in the room waiting for the doctor to return with results of a test and a lady in a pantsuit came in and notified my wife (Who is in pain laying on a gurney) that the cost of the appointment was $100. I spoke up so that she would leave my wife alone and said "Okay, that's fine". There was then an uncomfortable silence as she stared at me, I didn't really know what she needed...she then mumbled "cash, credit of check", something to that effect. Surprised, I reached for my wallet. We've been here a lot and they've always billed us, we have insurance and my wife has a standing order to receive fluids through IV. So they bill us quite often. So I paid the lady and she left, but it irritated me. What if my wife and come in alone, would she have pestered my wife for payment as she laid in pain? Either way it seems like a bad practice, there are better ways to take payment if you need to do so. If there is ever an issue in the future that doesn't require us to go to Memorial I definitely won't. read more

I went to the ER because I was in a painful UTI/Cystitis flare and of course it was a weekend. The clinic I usually go to closes at noon on Friday with no provision for after business hours care. The ER, while not fancy or updated took good care of me. The doctor was kind and I was started on antibiotics. The only concern was a BP cuff that was so tight I had a sore arm for 3 days. I did call patient relations and shared my concern. He was professional and heard what I was trying to explain to him. ALWAYS take another person with you. It's good practice to take someone with you to your regular PCP if you have serious issues. Stay well! read more

I'm really genuinely sorry to hear of other people's poor experiences at Memorial. True, their ER could be better staffed (and the receptionists can sometimes come across as immature to the point of rudeness, even at the general entrance). When we did have to go to the ER because I was bordering on having a miscarriage, the wait was longer than would be desired, but once we were seen the doctor seemed to be quite sharp, and knew what he was talking about. Yes, there was a kid sitting in the room typing on a laptop, which was mildly awkward, but whatever. The doctor's bedside manner could have been a bit less blunt with his wording, but at least he was (or appeared to be) quite competent. When I had to go in weekly for non-stress tests for the baby, the staff in the family birthing center were absolutely awesome. Yes, the downstairs receptionists can be immature and mildly rude, but the rest of the staff that I've seen thus far more than makes up for that. When I went in because I had false labor a week before my due date, the nurses on the 4th floor were awesome. They all had a great sense of humor, and were very personable. The doctor I saw that day was not quite as awesome personality-wise, and was not particularly gentle, but seemed capable enough. I was sent home, which I believe was a very good decision on the doctor's part. A week later I went into labor for real, and the entire staff was again awesome. From the doctor who saw me initially to every nurse who helped us, and got my epidural in time so that I barely felt anything when I gave birth (despite my understandably grouchy behavior during the process), I will always be thankful to them. I had a horrible experience throughout my pregnancy and delivery with my five year-old at a hospital in another area of the state, and the difference of how I was treated, both as a person and medically, are astounding. I can't speak for the entire hospital staff, but my experience giving birth here as well as visiting the ER has been amazingly awesome, considering the fact that my experience with doctors has not always been particularly pleasant. The pediatrician who came to see us was a bit full of himself, but maybe he's a really great doctor. I wouldn't know, but I'll give him the benefit of the doubt. The female pediatrician was far more pleasant and appeared knowledgeable. All in all, it was a really great experience, especially compared to some I've had with other hospitals and staff. read more

I took my son that is 6 to the ER for vomiting and he couldn't keep anything down. I also stated he had been constipated. They did an abdominal x-ray to check for a blockage. Came back and said no blockage and told us to keep doing what we are doing. And sent us home. My son was dehydrated and they didn't do anything. I took my son to Astria and they got him right back. Gave him IV fluids, nausea meds and started doing the whole shebang to figure out what was going on. Once once he had the IV fluids he was able to start keeping fluids down. read more

i was in escruciating pain and already went to isaquah swedish hospital a week nd a half ago already because no drs and memorial just says nothings wrong with you so i went again in escruciating pain and feeling like i was going to have a heart attack. heart hurting. arm hurting. head on fire. then security looking at me laughing. then i get to the back in a room (this is all disturbing my life bone and joints hurting aching. losing weight lost 40 pounds in 2 months and still going down. losing my hair lower back hurts and burns. bleeding. spleen hurts very bad. and other things. i can hardly walk in very much pain. i tell them i dont want pain pills i want answers and them after they do tests and then the dr comes back and says oh everything looks good. the reason you are hurting so bad is because of you smoking weed. well i smoke weed because of my seizures on top od my seizure meds my sz dr says so nd he says so i can try to eat. well i told him its not the weed i went to isaquah and glt some answers and thrrs some major things wrong with me and asked did you even read the results from tge scan that got donr he said no. you want me to i said no dont worry about it. and i was upset because i want answers ans said just have someine take thus stuff out my arm nd im ready to go releasr me and ill get answers some where else and next thing ya know hes gone. he left the hospital after i said i got results from isaquah but yall say nothings wrong everytime. . he was jyst profiling me and jyst trying to find drugs in my system thats all. so them finally after i had to hit the call button 3 times and security ended up outside my door and i jyst went there for help and answers then i said whats security outside for she says dont worry about him. you can trust me. i said i dont trust you. then she took out the iv and when got all dressed and started to walk out he said are you discharged i said yes i asked whats your name and he said grt ta steppin and he said his name but came to me and almost actin like he gonna grab me then i said dont be grabbin me and he kicked me in the foit and then he says im not gonna grab you. then i asked for a phone and he said its over there and then he kicked me in the foot again. wow. then i calk my nephew. and then 2 more security show up( so up on camera it shows) then i get off the phone and start walkin over to go out but get by security and say i want all you guys name and he says well if you have a pen then you can write it down and i turn around and ask the nurse maam could i please get a pen and he comes around and says no leave the nurse alone so i say ok well its on camera so ill be talkin to admin tomm. and i did come back in the am and talk to tyem. this is very awful how i get treated there. every time i go there i get treated like im just a piece of trash. and even at other places. so heres a pic of what they put on my arm but i had to say hey im still bleeding and it still blead thru and she wrapped it tight abd it left a bruise and there is still a bruise from the wrap today. yep. some bs 100% read more

I gotta say as far as their billing department working with you, not so sure about.... you have to stay on top of them at all times, excellent at making payment arrangements; however, they tend to be sneaky and send unknown or forgotten accounts to collection. (happened to me TWICE) If you need to resolve a problem however their business office will bend over backwards to help you. As a patient; I have to say, felt rushed out the door.... did not feel like I was ready to be discharged.... had back surgery, very next day after surgery was discharged and sent home; cruising out the door out of the wheelchair into my walker then the car, when I was told by my surgeon to expect a 3-4 day stay.... little weird. nurses were awesome and very attentive. As a professional looking to get a job and hired on..... VERY frustrated, I don't understand them at all. I volunteered in several departments and even volunteered in a dept. where I listened every week to a group being hired on; that was the last straw for me... I just threw in the towel and gave up! I went to school for Medical Coding and Billing but I wanted to be a Patient Access Representative (plenty of customer service experience) and as a volunteer I would hear all the time how short handed they were. Honestly, I felt discriminated against because I am a guy! and I applied more than 30 times! One interview and only because I had help from my volunteer coordinators. They hire within first which is fine, but put that particular job under the "for employees only" section first. I have been interviewed at another hospital in another county and it was two days after applying, and I even got an email telling me how impressive my credentials were....just don't understand. Then I see on Facebook sites people in the HR Dept. telling people needing jobss to send their resumes directly to them in the HR dept. That's when I completely just gave up thinking I EVER had a chance having the privilege of working there. read more

If you are a person of color...beware (RUN!)...you will be ignored, looked through, treated as if you are sub standard (though for damage control, if they think they'll be reported, they'll shove a couple of phony-nice people your way to try to ensure you won't report the realities). We walked up to emergency station with our culturally diverse family in October 2014 and there was 1 person ahead of us. No staff was willing to acknowledge us after they address the one prior to us. We stood right in front of them for two minutes and had to ask for assistance. We are a Native American, Black American, Latino American primarily...fyi. We sat in the waiting room and as we sat we witnessed a Black American female that hospital staff had complained about for being outside sitting on the premises get reported to the police and they came to ask her to leave. She said it is a free country and she could sit on a bench. They disagreed and they, this time, carefully put her in a police car since they knew we were watching closely. We finally had staff approach us first only to try to explain it away as to why they called the police...as I'm thinking what a horrible reception to the first time visiting this hospital! They proceeded to treat our Latino family members rudely when they treated them in emergency. We had our Native American family on the maternity floor giving birth and they were treated rudely, as we found out by comparing notes. When the staff found out we were with the same family and overall was displeased they sent damage control over to speak to us as if we were kindergarteners (we are college degreed peoples and have recruited engineers for The Boeing Company). We only choose this hospital because of the birth happening so quickly and it was close to home for our out of state family members. Next time we will give our business to Yakima Regional! I was in the ER 2 times in 1 day for severe stomach pain. Turns out I needed an emergency Appendectomy. The first nurse that did my IV was very snippy with me. Blew my vein trying to do an IV. I have had surgery many times and have never in my life been under treated for pain. I was actually given 3 choices for pain medicine. Morphine, Hydrocodone, or an NSAID. I advised them I don't do well with morphine as it causes chest pain and makes me panic. I ended up taking it anyway as I knew Hydrocodone would not work for the amount of pain I was in. I had to endure the panic and chest pain for several minutes until it subsided. After the Appendectomy I was given the same choices for pain. I chose Hydrocodone and they gave me 1! I couldn't even believe it...1 Hydrocodone after surgery. I advised them it wasn't enough and wasn't working. The nurse spoke to the doctor and gave me 1 1/2 Hydrocodone. I was still in so much pain I almost opted for morphine, but didn't want to go through that again. Finally the nurse talked to the doc and gave me 2 Hydrocodone. What is going on that patients are given 3 choices for pain relief...There was a shortage of opioids going on? What happened to making the patient comfortable? I understand there is an opioid crisis, but patients who have surgery should be given better options for pain relief. I was completely miserable...could barely sit up to use the restroom. Also...the room was very small and the nurse changed my roommates colostomy bag in the room instead of the bathroom..when this person was completely ambulatory and able to walk. It was horrible. There were no places for visitors to sit. My husband sat up all night in a cafeteria like chair beside my bed. Very bad experience and couldn't wait to get out of there. read more

Security is rediculas here. You can only have 3 people in a room no matter what and you have to wear a tag the whole time. Docters and nurses are nice though. read more

The security is great here. When you're considering people's safety and having control of the hospital, you can appreciate the security measures they take. Recently they've performed a bloodless surgery for a friend. From what I understand, Yakima Memorial doesn't customarily perform such procedures but they did a great job with my friend. Keep it up. They'll be making a name for themselves soon. After all the military will be adopting bloodless procedures. With the US military's stamp of approval of these types of procedures, that's got to stand for something right? read more

I delivered a high risk baby here and I was assigned to recover from my C-section in a broken bed and was not given any pain medication the next day to take when I had to fly to Seattle for advanced medical assistance to my newborn. It was a horrible experience and I was in intense pain. I will never go back. I would rate this a 0 if the option existed. This is not an isolated case. My mother had a lumpectomy done here after a breast cancer diagnosis and her assisting nurse was very rude and refused to help my mom with anything. My mom could barely lift her arms and needed help getting her shirt on after the surgery and the nurse just stood there and refused to help and was very snooty. My mom was being rushed out the door within two hours after she woke up from surgery. They have no respect for the patients. read more
