There are many factors that make a coffee shop special. For starters and I'm sure you'll agree the…read morecoffee has to be amazing. Not just okay, but the kind of coffee that gives you the boost you need to get through the day. And if you plan to stay, the space matters just as much. It should feel welcoming and comfortable, with enough room to work, meet, catch up, or simply slow down for a while. What makes the story of Chocolattés even more meaningful is where it began. In 2003, Chocolattés opened inside HealthPark Medical Center, a place where most people probably don't wish to spend their day. Yet, one cup of coffee at a time, they found a way to uplift visitors, staff, and families during some of life's more difficult moments. Over the next 12 years, Chocolattés expanded to all four major hospitals, bringing that same experience to even more people. Today, with two locations in Southwest Florida, that story has evolved into something you can enjoy outside the hospital walls. And the coffee? This is craft coffee in every sense of the word. Their beans are roasted in-house, and there is almost a science behind how they create each cup. You can tell there is intention behind what they serve. The prices are definitely on the higher end, but I think Chocolattés is one of those places where you can justify it whether you're treating yourself to a really good cup of coffee or need something a little extra to get you through a long day at work. Our go-to orders? For Ariel, it's the Shaken Gorilla Vanilla Iced Espresso with banana, caramel, and vanilla For Hailey, it's Sea Turtle Mocha Latte chocolate, caramel, hazelnut & sea salt sprinkles.

After going to a few different places, we finally discovered Southern Roots Kava Bar! Our first time going there, we were welcomed by the owners, Josh and Lisett. Even though it was a pretty busy night, they both still took the time to introduce themselves and have a conversation with us. What really sets them apart is how welcoming everyone is and how quickly it feels like you're part of the community. All of the drinks on their menu are great! However, the "Cowboy Koolaid" quickly became our go-to drink of choice. My personal second favorite may just be the S'mores-flavored K drink. The atmosphere in this place is awesome! It's got the look and feel of a regular bar, but better. There's a really nice sitting area in the back with comfortable couches, and a large dining-style table for meetings or large groups. For entertainment, there are two pool tables, a dart board, and a shuffleboard game. They also host weekly events like pool tournaments, karaoke, and trivia, so there is always something to do or watch. There are plenty of TVs throughout the place too, if you would rather just hang out and watch sports. Although they don't serve food in-house, each night they have a different food truck in the parking lot and allow you to eat inside. They've definitely picked out a great lineup of food trucks, as we have enjoyed each one we've tried. I would also like to mention that they are dog-friendly, which is great because we just recently got a new puppy and we take her there with us. If you're into Kava, Kratom, or coffee and are looking for the best place in town, you need to come check out Southern Roots Kava Bar. We're glad we found this place. My fiancé and I visit several times a week and always enjoy spending time there. Don't forget to purchase a growler. We bring ours in for refills frequently.

This review is regarding an incident that occurred during the Super Bowl…read more During the halftime show, the bar chose to stop showing the halftime performance and instead switched to a Kid Rock performance. A group of us wanted to continue watching the halftime show, so we turned it on one of the TVs in the back. Shortly afterward, the owner came over, turned the TV off, and told us that we would not be watching it. Several people in our group were frustrated by the situation and chose to leave. Ultimately, it's the owner's business and they can run it however they choose. However, the experience left many of us feeling unwelcome and disappointed, especially considering we were simply trying to watch the halftime show that much of the country was watching at that moment. That incident, combined with other experiences I've had, contributed to my decision to stop supporting this establishment.

If you're looking for a coffee shop that feels like more than just a place to grab a cup of coffee,…read moreyou should check out Penny's in Cape Coral. The coffee is really good, flavorful, strong, and there are quite a few options to choose from. They also have Lotus energy drinks and other drinks if coffee isn't your thing. What we really like about Penny's is that you can actually stay awhile. We work from here and it's comfortable and easy to settle in, but it also works just as well for meeting a friend or grabbing breakfast. They're women-owned, which we always love supporting. Their breakfast menu has some fun choices, including a few more health-forward options, and they have books and games around the shop that you can enjoy while you're there. It just has a very easy, comfortable feel to it. You can come in for coffee, stay for breakfast, get some work done, meet up with friends, or even come back later for a glass of wine. (They offer wine selections!) Sometimes those are the places we appreciate most--the ones that don't feel like you have to rush in and out.
