I pick up my children every day better than I left them. From a mom that stayed home with her first child until he was 2. I have never felt very confident about leaving my children under another's care, but I never worry about them at Greensboro Montessori. They love their teachers and their teachers love them. Everything from the curriculum to the manner in which they speak to the children is purposeful and kind. In addition to being well cared for, my 2 children, 3.5 and 1.5, are also learning. My kids have been to other schools and we visited other daycares before we decided on Greensboro Montessori, but none compare. They have a magical formula of learning through exploration and play. They treat children like little explorers and scientists, guiding their play. There is no competitive helicoptery vibe. They simply look for opportunities to tie information into a child's natural exploration. Children explore different "works" rather than cheap toys. They play with sand and water, paint and blocks with the intention of figuring out how we function in the world rather than being "entertained." They also spend a lot of time outside with nature, walking in the nearby woods and gardening which I value tremendously. Children are also encouraged to be independent. Each child is considered at their own level and challenged to do things for themselves in a kind and supportive environment. I was surprised to find when my son started here at 2 all the things that he could do for himself and was eager to do. Everyone needs a purpose and children are the same. This school provides children with a safe and nurturing environment to learn and grow. The school also provides helpful seminars on evidence-based gentle parenting techniques and fosters a real sense of community. There are regular events for all ages and opportunities to participate/volunteer. We considered schools that were more budget, providing diapers and multiple meals and snacks as part of tuition, but none had the level of caring and commitment I feel here. This place isn't simply caring for your children and keeping them alive, but constructively and mindfully creating a complete environment for children to become well rounded, empathic, intelligent people.

It breaks my heart to post this review.  However, people have a right to know the truth. Currently,…read moretwo of my three children attend The Montessori School of Winston-Salem.  We are not returning due to the actions of the Head of School. On the surface, the Head of School is kind and charming as long as you play by the rules he establishes instead of what is written in the Montessori Handbook and the Blueprint for Our Montessori School.  In the school parking lot on the morning of February 12, 2019, I had to defend myself in a verbal altercation with the Head of School that left me in shock. The Head of School, Jonathan Churn approached my vehicle after my children successfully walked into school.  He started a passive-aggressive conversation questioning how I dropped my children off to school that morning. I asked him why he was targeting me as my children walked into school safely on the sidewalk while I actively supervised them breaks no known school rules.  He stated, "I address everything I see," and then quickly escalated the conversation by leaning into my car window, clapped in my face, and in an elevated tone said, "I am frustrated with you. This is what you're gonna do. You are either going to walk your children into school, or use the car line."  In my seventeen years as a mother, I have never experienced anything like the level of disrespect that I endured from Mr. Churn. At best it was unprofessional behavior.  At worst it was racially motivated as an African-American mother who feels targeted by him.  I am one of a handful of African-American parents at the school. I have witnessed other parents blatantly disregard school handbook rules (i.e., not getting out of your vehicle during car line daily) while Mr. Churn watches and says nothing.  Yet, he has tried to micromanage and target certain families. Has anyone else been treated in such a manner at this school? If not, then why me? The Head of School thought so little of me that he clapped in my face like I was a dog and had the nerve to tell me he was "frustrated" with me for the reason that is still unclear. My husband filed a grievance regarding this event and attended an initial informal meeting. The Board of Trustees was asked to provide their leadership as the Blueprint tasks them to provide supervision for the Head of School. My husband has requested multiple times that I am contacted by someone and no one is willing to even call me despite the handbook stating, "Every effort will be made to address the issue through conferences involving Head of School and those concerns."  While there are many excellent teachers at TMS, I still do not recommend it. A school environment should feel robust. Unfortunately, this school has deficiencies. A major one being that it does not represent the city socioeconomically or ethnically. The central campus (located extremely close to a registered sex offender) climate feels incredibly stagnant. Yet, there was an entirely new school built that boasts a total of five students, two of which are the Head of School's children. Under this type of leadership, I highly encourage any parent considering this school to look elsewhere.

If you want something at least close to Montessori and for the most part is Montessori then go ahead and give it a try. After a couple of years investigating I wish I had gone with the other Montessori that is available downtown Winston Salem. If you have the chance and can go to the down town school even better. Our kids attend this preschool and I can't say enough great things about it!…read more First off, Countryside is incredibly wholesome. The snacks and meals are genuinely healthy, the classrooms have enough developmental toys to engage the kids but not enough to be overwhelming, and there are acres of space outside for them to run around (of course there are separate fenced playground areas within to prevent runaways ;) The teachers are genuine, trained and certified teachers--not babysitters who are out of a real job. The lessons taught are real-world lessons of responsibility and grace: like putting your things away, letting a child use a toy until they're finished with it, and mechanical skills like (at the toddler level) learning to arrange their lunches, pouring their own water and taking care of their things. If you've had your children at a "preparatory school" or daycare like we have, you've probably observed them feeding your kids things you wouldn't eat like cheetos, "fruit" snacks, lots of juice, cookies, etc. We felt like we couldn't escape this system of the daycare feeding out kids junk food--even when we asked them to feed the kids an alternative, the preschools would feed it to them anyway! This would never be accepted at Countryside. Another great thing is that the family population is diverse--lots of different colors, socioeconomic representation, and a few languages spoken--which we wanted and appreciate. Unlike the church daycares (and "preparatory school"), they won't try to force any religion on your kid but rather teach respect for all people. I could go on and on, but the last thing I'll say is the teachers are REAL teachers. If you've had your children in even the best daycares in Charlotte, you'll know that the teachers are actually babysitters (although some have a degree, *maybe* in early childhood ed if you're lucky) who graduated and can't find a job in their field and are working at a preschool just because it's a j-o-b. Countryside's teachers have tenures at the school of generally 5-25 years and are clearly both experienced and committed to the children. Turnover is NOT an issue here, unlike at the schools we've been to. No one else seemed to mention this in their review, but since child care is expensive, I'll mention it: Countryside is about 40% less expensive than our previous daycare situations (providence preparatory and a chain daycare)!!! We feel like we've struck gold--a way better child care situation that's much more affordable. Highly recommend!

The school did not notify me of this issue - my child had to disclose it to me. When I told the school director about it she effectively did nothing about. Additionally, she did even notify the parents of the other effected child of the situation. 2) My child was vicitimed by a bully in her class for years. This situation resolved itself when they child left. The school's director tried many times to get me to understand that things like this happen with children and that I was blowing it out of portion. 3) My ex-spouse and I were involved in a very nasty custody battle for many years. The school and its adminstration constantly took sides. At one point when I lost custody the school's director effectively told me that the contract was with the other parent and that as such I would not receive any communication about my child and that I would be removed from the email update list and that they would not provide any updates on my child's progress. 4) Very high teacher turnover. The school only has 3 full time teachers and within a couple of years the school fired 3 teachers. 5) many parents fall into social tribes - the child see this behavoir and copy it. I found that child tended to function in groups that excluded other children. Even a teacher at the school who had children at the school were victimized by this type of ingroup/outgroup abuse by other students.

Aside from the warm and caring environment, the curriculum is excellent and his learning and growth has been tremendous. It is a tight knit community were parents make new friends among themselves. The school hosts many community evenings and events to get the families together and keep everyone informed about developments. I highly recommend Anami!

He adjusted quickly and loved the teachers. I got on a monthly plan and all was well until... The entire staff resigned due to poor owner management and no parents were notified. The new staff was incompetent and did not practice proper safety guidelines. When my child came home twice with a dirty diaper and a full drink (which he immediately sucked down like he had been walking in the desert) I knew something was wrong. That was when I found out all of the teachers he knew and I was comfortable with were gone and they were not only short staffed but the new staff was incompetent. They didn't even know which child was mine when I came to pick him up and did not ask for ID. To top it off I had just paid for a full month of care. When I notified the owner that I would not be bringing my child back and requested a refund minus the two days he went I received no response, and still haven't. I would NEVER recommend this place to anyone who cares about their child. Terrible customer service and dishonesty. The school is not offering any answers or solutions to the parents questions. Also, this is a one star school that is not an accredited Montessori school. Full post: We are extremely concerned at this time. Since my previous post boasting about the school, there has been a revolving door of adults coming in and out of our kids lives, most all of them with no Montessori experience or training. Some of whom, have commented that they do not believe in Montessori training, and therefore do not implement Montessori curriculum with our children. There have also been multiple adults who were hired without the school running any background checks on them. This is all reported by the state of North Carolina but you can read about online. There is clearly something very wrong at the school that is causing assistants and guides to leave so often, but this is probably the most disturbing part. As of Thursday night (12/09/21), we became aware that there is an investigation by the state into abuse on toddlers by an assistant. After speaking with parents who had children in that class, I have learned that the abuse was quite extensive. This was the message we were sent. The narrative is that this assistant was seen being physical with a toddler, and that the assistant would have remained an employee working with our kids had she not quit while on administrative leave. The school's stance is that they did not feel there was any abuse. Other guides in the school who witnessed abuse and made reports to administration feel otherwise. Parents, clearly, feel otherwise. Parents are now seeing signs of trauma in their children due to this ongoing. Our sons teacher who made reports on the abuse was fired. Her replacement is a woman who has never had any Montessori training, and will now be preparing some of our kids for first grade, which we are absolutely concerned about. The Chief of Program Operations (the CEO's wife) was on a conference call last night with all the parents, and instead of fully answering our questions, she said she would email us the next day by noon (we have not received any such email) and said "I have to end this call because I promised my kids I would do a puzzle with them and keeping my promise to my kids is important". I've never felt more unheard or anxious about my child's safety.
