Whenever I travel for work I try to book my hotels in close proximity to the nearest gym. I do this…read moreso often that I should start a show similar to Anthony Bourdain (R.I.P.), where I would travel to gyms worldwide and experience the differences in gym/fitness culture. Unfortunately, gyms are scarce in the Chowchilla area (where my hotel was located), but I was able to find a gym 20 minutes away in Madera. After verifying that it was a conventional gym (most of the nearby gyms only offered group classes), I put on my gym clothes and made the short trip to Fit Republic. When I entered I was warmly greeted by an employee who recognized that I was not a regular attendee (I love when staff recognize familiar and unfamiliar faces). After filling out a short e-disclosure form, I paid the $10 guest day pass fee and proceeded to throw around some iron (I love that they don't waste your time trying to pressure you into joining)! The first thing that I noticed is how well-spaced and organized the gym floor is. Aside from the squat racks that are located against a far wall in the gym, all of the equipment is organized by muscle group(s). My heart was filled with thankfulness when I realized that one of the three conventional (free weight) squat racks was available. I pointed out that they have three racks because most gyms have two (three is my lucky number), and they are almost always occupied for long periods of time. In between sets, I noticed that most of the gym patrons were focused on their workouts (no creepy staring at people as they stretch), gym equipment was being used for its intended purposes (not as makeshift couches), there were no "musclehead" vibes (throwing weights & unnecessarily loud grunting), and weights/dumbbells were racked when not in use. With the exception of the squat racks, the equipment is all new (including the cardio equipment) and the facility is clean. As I concluded my grueling workout with cardio (I love doing cardio as much as my son loves eating his veggies), I noticed two massage chairs nestled in the corner (heaven for post-workout muscle soreness). I also noticed workout machines arranged in a circular formation (similar to the Curves gyms) that could be used for group circuit workouts. I have this gym bookmarked for whenever I'm in the Madera area. Whether you reside in Madera, or just visiting, I highly recommend Fit Republic!

would give it negative stars if I could. The customer service here was HORRIBLE. Then after 3 months of having a membership, they charged me a $40 yearly fee which I was not spoken to about. At the time I wanted to cancel my subscription, I went in a few days before my renewal date to cancel due to financial issues, they notified me they would still be charging me for the upcoming month and when I called to ask if it could be stopped or refunded when it went through if it was not possible to stop it, they denied me and told me I should have come in 15 days before the billing date to cancel.

I gotta say i was kinda intimidated on doing a boot camp. But gotta say that FIBC has been a great…read moreexperience. Pros: Staff is awesome. They push you as hard as you can, but they are not all in your face. Indoor facilities are great: Most boot camps you are meeting at a park and you are dealing with the elements. Price is affordable for anyone: Can either pay $5 each visit or get a 10 session punch card for $30. (yes these are their regular prices) If you are lucky you can get a groupon ($15 for 10 session punch card). Boot camp changes all the time.: I have been going 3 times a week and it has been different every time. Note: I started this review when i first started. I have been going 5 days a week now and seen a big improvement. Nothing has changed since i started in August 2012. Still as challenging and as fun. The coaches are great since they see if you are a newbie they will see how you do, then work around any issues. Also once they know you they do press you some more but its still not the crazy in your face type of place. Just bring a open attitude and a willingness to push yourself to your own limits. Great way to start the day!

A little review update…read more.. This place has truly been a lifesaver during the holiday season. Between eating the tasty yet overly salted foods, delicious sweet treats, and copious amounts of adult beverages; I love that I can book a quick 45 minute session and feel back to normal! I don't think a human actually "sweats out" toxins, but after a heavy rowing and biking session, I'm pretty sure my gym towel is 75% sweat and 25% vodka. Plus the heat helps clear my sinuses and I can actually breathe again! I've been working out here for about 6-months now and it's the first fitness regiment that has stuck! Here's to a new year of sweating and feeling better.

After my second baby, I was struggling to get my body moving and get my health in check. Gyms have…read morealways been intimidating, so I was hesitant to try class, let alone a hot yoga class. I knew I needed a change and our local HOTWORX was offering a free trial class. It's been seven months since I signed up after that first trial class and I can wholeheartedly say it was the BEST decision I've made in years. They offer over 10 different virtual classes from cardio (rowing and cycling) to HIIT, to Pilates and yoga and strength training. The classes rotate every couple of months offering varying routines. The 24/7 access allows for flexibility in scheduling classes. You can book solo classes or classes with up to 3 people in a sauna. I've meet some wonderful people; everyone has been kind and encouraging, not your typical uncomfortable gym vibes. If you're looking for a life changing workout regime that yields results (I lost 27lbs in the first 4 months), then check out your local HOTWORX studio.

It is very alarming to think a business owner can go around treating people like shit. Especially…read moreteenagers who are trying to feel better by working out. The owner (RICK) of Evolution Strength and Conditioning treated my son and his friend very aggressively, saying he makes 4 million dollar a year to get the "f" out of his gym. I've been a member since that gym opened 8 years ago and to witness how the owner treats his members is very disappointing. When in fact we paid a drop-in fee for my son to workout. Disgusting behavior. Just be careful parents. If you have sons/daughters going to that gym, make sure the owner doesn't belittle them or disrespect them. RICK, YOU AIN'T BETTER THAN NONE OF US. CALM DOWN WITH YOUR AGGRESSIVE BEHAVIOR.

I've been going to this gym for the past year. It's a solid gym, it's clean, and the people are…read morerespectful. There's just one huge issue: the heat. One of the main rooms has not a single fan or AC vent, and the space is essentially a warehouse with high vaulted ceilings. It is 105 degrees outside as I'm typing this, and the room without fans or AC is a sauna. Imagine working out in a 90+ degree room without a fan blowing any air around - it's miserable. I called about this issue last year, and my concern was always blown off and I was repeatedly told "we're working on it". Well, summer has arrived again and there is still not a single fan in that room. And don't even get me started on their response when you bring this up with them. The last time I mentioned this and expressed my concern, the person who answered the phone suggested I cancel my membership and find another gym. Seriously? Completely unprofessional and unacceptable. I'm not asking you to install an additional AC unit and vents (which they should do anyways), I'm asking you to spend 30 minutes running to the nearest Lowe's/Home Depot to buy two large fans, plug them in, and turn them on. That's it. It is quite literally the bare minimum this business could do to show that they care about the safety and comfort of their customers. For $40/month, I expect much more from this business.
