I just had service turned on and the technician who came to turn it on was one of the most delightful human beings I've met lately. His name was Victor, and he's a younger guy. Just went above and beyond to be helpful, but more than that, he also had such a pleasant and kind demeanor that I wanted to make him stay and be my new BFF. What a sweetheart. As a woman who is often home alone for these calls, I've had more than one uncomfortable experience. Victor just radiates reassurance and put me instantly at ease. I called his supervisor, Steve, to tell him what a good experience I had, but I also want to recognize him on here. He was only here for about 20 minutes, total, but made a very positive impression. He turned on the line, was very friendly to my pets, and then took the time to both explain how the water heater and furnace system work, how to check them for any problems, how to adjust the water heat level, and then checked around the house for CO leaks, because I'm a jeweler and have had false positives due to my acetylene torch. He was efficient, so it's not like he wasted time, but in that short amount of time, I learned things about my house's heating/water that I'm embarrassed I made it to this age without knowing. Also, the exhaust tube for the water heater wasn't lined up properly, so he adjusted it and double tested it to make sure my kids and I would be safe from CO leaks. Xcel Energy is the worst company with extremely bad customer service. if I had a choice, I would never used its services. I have a few accounts with this company, which didn't send its bill to customers, and over charged me all the time. Since last year, this company started to bill to me, after so many customers complained for years, but it sends my bills to wrong address. It won't changed my addresses to the right ones, after I requested over and again. With this address confusing, I paid my bills to wrong account, which made one account was overpaid for $400, the other one was later for $252.89. Thus yesterday I received a 'Residential Notice of Discontinuance of Utility Service', asking me to pay $252.89 in 10 days. With the Notice in hand, I called Xcel Customer Service, the customer representative checked with my name and add, then told me I don't owe any money, but have $342.58 credit. she said ignore this letter, just throw it away. I asked her to check carefully, as I have a few accounts, finally she found one of my accounts is due for $252.89. She became very rude, saying it was my fault not to pay bills on time, as if she totally forgot she just told me not to worry about the bill. I told her because the billing address was not correct, that confused me, though I tried to pay each of them on time. The fact was I did pay on time, so I begged her to tell me how much I was penalized, and if she could excuse me this time, or if I could speak to her manager about it. She started to yell at me, " No, no manager is available, I can't never waive Any charges nor fees, I only can transfer your payment to the right account. Do you want to do or not? I asked again how much was the charge and fees, why her manager is not available, she refused to answer any of the questions. I had to call again, to take this issue to another Xcel customer representative, whose name was Kelly. She is worse than the other one. She told me that she can not transfer my money from the wrong account to the right one, as it was not their mistake. But that is my money, and I paid my money to the wrong account, because of they sent the bill to wrong address. My money was paid to Xcel on time, and now the money is still in Xcel 's hand. How can Xcel fined me, shut down my utilities, while it has my full payment in its hand? After I spent hours to communicate with the worst customer service representatives, I could not fix any of my problems, they instituted not to transfer my money to my right account, but send a check back to me, in a month. When I moved into my home two years ago, I initially reached out to set up my service, but I was informed that my property in North Colorado was serviced by United Power instead. Based on that information, I didn't press the issue further and established my connection through United Power. Over the next two years, I never received a single bill, phone call, or any form of communication from Xcel. Despite this, they suddenly showed up at my door demanding payment for a service I was completely unaware I had and had never been billed for. Excel left their utility pole tied to a tree for 6 months. I tried several times to get anyone in management to call me about this but they never did. I was told by customer service at Xcel that the company wasn't sure if the utility pole was an Xcel owned pole. There is a metal plate on the pole that clearly has Xcel engraved on it . Is it possible to give them no stars? What a worthless company, every time it's windy, which happens a lot in Colorado, we lose power. Often for the entire day. My wife works from home and has to take the day off, because of their useless power grid. Then, we'll get periodic updates that in no way reflect how long they will take to fix the problem. You can hear it no matter where you are IN the house, with the windows closed, and it goes all night. I have been calling to ask them to come see what is wrong for this entire year, but they are too busy with other issues and was actually told that I am on a list but it could be another year or more until someone comes out...worst customer service ever! Overall, my experience with Xcel has been pretty spotty. For the last 3 months, I've not had them as a provider, but I've been getting little ghost bills. What I thought was my final bill, another $36 I thought maybe was the residual, $14, $12. I put in a stop service order at the beginning of the year, and then again with an explanation in April. After no response to my explanation, they started to call and tell me my bill is due... I called and spoke to Sara, who was honestly not helpful, doesn't have a supervisor or anyone who might be more helpful, and decided instead of waiting with me on the phone for a real adult to come help that she'd rather hang up. In the process, they cut my internet and phone lines. They didn't tell me (the only way I knew is that I happened to see their truck drive away) and they didn't call me. This is probably the worst electricity company in the entire country. I moved into my apartment last year. In that time I have had 6 outages, each lasting multiple days. There is little to no customer service. And when you call to complain you have to lie to the automated phone system in order to talk to a real person to get real information. The warnings are given way too close to the event happening and leave almost no time for preperation. And when they do finally turn your power back on there's no guarantee that they won't turn it off again later that day. They turn the power off every single day that it's windy out, which is quite often since I live on the Front Range. And when you go to check the website they just tell you that they're working on the problem. Half the time the website doesn't even work and has little to no information on when the power is going to come back on or what they are doing to fix it. I got lucky on the last one and only lost power for about 2 days. But I knew people who were without power for nearly a week. And I know that there was no rhyme or reason to the shutoffs because the buildings literally 20 feet from my apartment all had power the entire time. Here's the deal: I called Xcel Energy's residential line at (800) 895-4999 to ask a simple question about an underground natural gas line marked with yellow flags that say "Xcel." I waited for about 30 minutes, and when the representative answered, she didn't know the answer to my question: "Can a large dump truck back onto the flagged area to dump xeriscaping rocks on my front yard? Will it be safe?" She told me to call 811, as they would know the answer. I called 811 and asked the representative, but he didn't know either. He told me to call Xcel Energy for that. He also didn't know how deep the gas pipes are buried. In the end, I wasted 30 minutes of waiting time for nothing. It feels like neither company knows what they are doing. Their multi-tier phone menu is ridiculous which ended with "we are only accepting calls for emergencies". So they don't have time or staff to help customers with non-emergency problems - WHY NOT! I've reported two streetlights that have been out for over a month. Xcel sent a truck out last week and they fussed around for a bit and then left, and... nothing. Streetlights are still out. WTF? I've submitted my second report. The form they have is stupid: there's a box that says "submitted for" and it requires that you fill that out. Who do you THINK I'm submitting a report of a broken streetlight for? The Mayor? Donald Trump? What a stupid question and you MUST answer it or the form is rejected. Fix the GD streetlights, Xcel. Not much I can do about this situation right now other than complain on Yelp. Like the other reviews, Xcel is just filled with soulless, monopolistic misers. I had a solar unit installed on my house last October. This was after signing all the documentation and getting started in August, with the promise that I would be live by December. Ion Solar was lightning fast with their part in every step in the process... yet it's February now and I'm still not live. Why the delay you ask? Because of multiple long delays in the process due to Xcel taking an unreasonable amount of time to approve the inspection and install the meter. I recently was told that this is because Xcel is intentionally delaying their part in the process in order to keep their cash flows active (basically once a customer turns on the solar meter, that's a customer churned). They claim it's due to a backlog in manpower, but the backlog goes back years, and there has been plenty of time to adjust headcount to just get out here and flip a damn switch. Whether it's due to unethical business practices or downright incompetence... or both.... Xcel energy and CEO Bob Frenzel's behavior is monumentally bad customer service, and probably criminal. read more
