No one EVER answers the phone in the racing office, I'm not sure how they even run the place. For 2 weeks straight and repeated calls, before I drove 6 hours there just trying to get information. Probably upwards of 30 phone calls during business hours and being transferred back and forth between main office and racing office. Needless to say the reason I went there was a total waste of time for me and a huge let down simply because I couldn't get a living person on the phone to ask one question to. I love this venue for a great weekend day activity. It is fun to try your hand a betting the ponies at least once a summer. They are only open for about 8 weeks each summer, so you need to be prompt when planning a visit so as not to miss out. We've tried the VIP tickets in the past but found that the air flow is restricted and waiter service is woefully lacking for food delivery. We've had better luck with general seating under the canopy where we can get our own drinks (sometimes the line is long) and choose our food options depending on our desire of the day. The races run back to back, but there is a wait in between that extends the day out. The parking is a first come first served grassy lot that can be challenging to exit when the event is over. All in all, I love to come to the races and walk away with small losses for the trade off of great fun. read more

What a fun daytime event. Horse Racing is one of my favorite things to watch. Since Wyoming Downs is so close we drove there It was Ladies Day and the crowd looked like I was at the Kentucky Derby. The stands were packed and the racing began. You can make $1 dollar bets or big bets I go for fun and yes I donated to their tax base on this trip. It's $10 per person to get in. This includes a program with Stats about the Horses and the Jockeys. The seating is great and grand stand style but the seats have backs I would bring a seat cushion though because if you stay for the whole thing it's about a 6 hour event My other recommendation is to eat before you arrive. They have the standard concession food but the lines were really long and the food was marginal at best. You can't bring in your own food so we had a snack for the day The races end for the season on Aug 18th. That's still time to make a run to Evanston. If not go next year. You can even buy a lottery ticket before you leave town It was cooler than SLC and a nice day out of town watching the Pony's read more

This place is just fun. Whether you know anything about horse racing or not, it is just a good time. The day can be as cheap or expensive as you want it to be with a $2 per race minimum bet (if you choose to gamble) or you can just show up to watch and hear the place rumble every 20 minutes or so. A few notes you'll want to know: 1.) There is shade available. The seating is open and you can stand down on the rail or sit up under cover and watch all of the races. Bringing a bag, etc, is okay and the place is relatively "safe" with nobody touching your stuff. 2.) Walk around. Go visit the stalls and paddock, watch the jockeys take to the saddle, see the sheer beauty of these athletes as they get on the track. Also visit different parts of the track. The races are completely different down next to the rail than they are up in the seats. Both are great experiences and you will like them. 3.) The food is "okay." Different kinds of food are available and all affordable. They have stuff the kids will eat and food you will like. It isn't fancy and it won't set you back a ton. The folks running the concessions are nice and you should tip them. 4.) Bring your SS Card. Last time I hit a monster payout here they wanted my SS Card to fill out the 1099. I had to drive back up from Utah to collect which was kind of inconvenient. 5.) Have fun. Kids like it, adults like it, everybody likes it. You don't need to really know much to go up, guess on some horses, and cheer them on. I've seen people play the same numbers all day, people pick horses based on color or looks, and those that can read the form inside and out. Everybody has a chance to win. read more

Wyoming Downs is a great place to spend an afternoon but there are some things that they can do to make the experience better for customers. First, they don't have enough clerks to help customers bet and it seems you are rushing to get the bets in before time is up. I cut it close a couple of times. It would be helpful if they had more clerks working. When I was there last week, there were 3-4 booths on each floor that were not in use. They should purchase more self-service kiosks as well. This would help with the long lines and may even result in more bets and revenue for Wyoming Downs. Second, make their online betting (FastBet) more available. It is very convenient as you can place bets without even having to go inside to place your bet. Fastbet requires you to deposit money into the account after you create it. The problem is the self-serve kiosks didn't work so you had to deposit money through the clerks and many of them couldn't do this either and had some special person who you would see to deposit money into your account. This person also left early so if you needed to pick up any money left over or won, you had to find another employee who could help you. Making Fastbet more available would be very helpful since it is very easy to use and would cut down on the long lines. I think a lot of customers would love to use Fastbet if they could use it and some simply gave up trying after the self-serve kiosks wouldn't allow them to deposit money into their account. read more

Good times were had! Skip the white seersucker suit and don't look to hard for a mint julep, this is not the gentleman's race track, and thats OK. This is western Wyoming and it's predominately cowboy and blue-collar crowd. Good people at a really pretty location. We tried to sit in clockers corner and it was full. As it turned out I'm certain grandstand seats were better. We enjoyed the freedom of moving around, watching some trackside finishes, inspecting the next racers in the paddock, and still being able to retreat to the shade and view of the grandstand whenever we wanted. Food was pretty marginal (and between seven of us we tried most of the options), next time I think we'll just tailgate pre-race. The beer selection was decent and all the staff exceptionally friendly. Make sure you BRING CASH as thats all they take everywhere. Though an ATM is available. Family friendly for sure, we brought a 7,8,11yo all of whom enjoyed the day. I'm not usually a betting man, but had fun playing the ponies and I'm willing to wager that I'll be back. read more

I LOVE horse racing! We drive an hour and a half multiple times in the summer to come to the racetrack! It's small and pretty intimate. Every seat is a good seat! It's all opening seating once you get in, minus the box seats. The bet is fast and lines are never too long. We've been coming here for over 5 years and have definitely noticed the attendance going up! I have been to Wyoming Downs a few times, I went there a couple times several years back then they shut down for a several years, reopening again in 2014. The races are great fun, this is a great place to spend a day. The track is only open on weekends for a 6 -8 week period, this year the last weekend is August 10th. The track has four different seating options. 1. Lower bowl with fold down chairs, if you get too low you may end up in the sun. 2. The upper bowl, this section has bleacher style seats, that could make for a long day. 3. Counters Corner, this area has tables and chairs and some slow table side service for food and drinks. Finally there is an option to bring your own chairs and sit track side on the concrete pad, this area can get very sunny and I am not sure the cost. The last time we were there the Lower cost $8, Upper $7 and the Corner $10. Most all seats have good views of the race. The seating is glassed in on both sides and the back so air flow is minimal and there are no fans or AC so it can get warm, the lower seats have the most access to air, the corner the least. The track offers food and drink. Food is basic, Hamburgers, Hot Dogs and pizza. Beverages include water, soda, beer, and a couple wine options. read more

I made it out to WYO Downs twice this summer and had a blast. The place itself is old and bland, the building has no charm or decor to speak of. There are two open betting areas, one upstairs and one downstairs. Races run on Saturdays and Sundays from mid-June to early August. Gates open at 11:30 and races start around 1:05 and run until 6PM or so. Both times I made it out I had a great time. The crowd is rather hillbilly-ish in the way they dress, so no need to think about your outfit. It's a great way for someone like me to get out of the city and enjoy the country life for a few hours. The announcer did a pretty nice job. He kept everyone informed without being annoying (everyone's been to that baseball stadium or whatever where the announcer WON'T SHUT UP). He makes it a point to remind you that you're in Wyoming and not Utah, as the state line is probably less than a quarter mile to the West. He said there in WYO they have real beer and they can gamble, etc... which was funny but risky as probably 85% of the cars in the parking lot have Utah plates. Food is standard concessions. Candy, pop, popcorn, burgers, hotdogs marked up as one would expect. Beers were $6, but on one of the days there was a guy right by the track with a little Budweiser truck selling chilly drafts for $4. So, yeah, this place really isn't a 5-star venue, but it is 100 miles closer to SLC than the next track and it could be a pretty sweet setup if they have another good summer or two. They NEED to update their TVs and get some screens set up at Clocker's Corner, because without screens there's really no point in paying the extra $10 per person. Employees were really friendly, they're mostly high schoolers either making minimum wage or using it as volunteer work. Pro tip #1: Bring a chair and sit on the paved area between the track and grandstand. That way you have back support and a great view of the action. The betting area and beer are very close to you this way. The crowd down there always seems to be cool people. Pro tip #2: They allow re-entry. Do what you will with that little tidbit. read more
